Two and a half hours later, 7 00:00:52.799 --> 00:00:56.359 Colonel Shoe's car is seen driving erradically down the interstate 8 00:00:56.520 --> 00:00:59.479 before it crashes into some trees and Shoe is found 9 00:00:59.479 --> 00:01:02.280 dead in the ever seed. Even though his death is 10 00:01:02.359 --> 00:01:04.959 ruled to be a suicide, there are a number of 11 00:01:04.959 --> 00:01:09.159 suspicious discrepancies, as there's duct tape around his wristen feet, 12 00:01:09.560 --> 00:01:12.239 a large gash in his chest, and both of his 13 00:01:12.439 --> 00:01:16.079 nipples have been removed. We've explored a lot of cases in 22 00:01:40.280 --> 00:01:42.599 which a victim's death was ruled to be a suicide, 23 00:01:42.799 --> 00:01:45.200 even though there were a number of suspicious details which 24 00:01:45.200 --> 00:01:48.640 made their loved ones suspect foul play, But the circumstances 25 00:01:48.680 --> 00:01:51.239 of this case are so bizarre that it stands out 26 00:01:51.239 --> 00:01:54.680 from the pack. Colonel Phillips Sheue was a psychiatrist with 27 00:01:54.719 --> 00:01:57.200 the United States Air Force who was only months away 28 00:01:57.200 --> 00:01:59.959 from retirement and had future plans with his wife, Tracey. 29 00:02:00.560 --> 00:02:02.879 But after leaving his home one morning for what should 30 00:02:02.920 --> 00:02:05.280 have been a routine work day, he was killed in 31 00:02:05.280 --> 00:02:08.360 a car crash less than three hours later. And believe it 39 00:02:27.840 --> 00:02:30.719 or not, the authorities were inclined to believe that Colonel 40 00:02:30.800 --> 00:02:34.919 Chue inflicted these injuries on himself before intentionally crashing his 41 00:02:34.960 --> 00:02:38.800 car in a very elaborate suicide. Prior to his death, 42 00:02:39.039 --> 00:02:41.800 Shue had displayed a lot of paranoid and erratic behavior 43 00:02:42.159 --> 00:02:44.639 because he was convinced his ex wife was planning to 44 00:02:44.759 --> 00:02:47.000 kill him in order to cash in on some lucrative 45 00:02:47.039 --> 00:02:49.840 insurance policies she had taken out on his life as 46 00:02:49.879 --> 00:02:53.439 part of their divorce settlement. For this reason, some people, 47 00:02:53.639 --> 00:02:57.159 including Schu's widow, believed that his ex wife abducted and 48 00:02:57.280 --> 00:02:59.919 tortured him, and when he attempted to make an escape, 49 00:03:00.080 --> 00:03:02.319 he wound up losing control of his car it was 50 00:03:02.400 --> 00:03:05.879 killed in a fatal crash. At a civil trial years later, 51 00:03:06.240 --> 00:03:09.319 a judge publicly expressed his belief that Colonel Shoe was 52 00:03:09.400 --> 00:03:11.759 the victim of a homicide, but since he did not 53 00:03:11.879 --> 00:03:14.800 have the legal authority to make that ruling, the authority 54 00:03:14.919 --> 00:03:18.840 still officially consider Shoe's death to be a suicide. But was he abducted or he 106 00:05:47.079 --> 00:05:48.600 just decided to do this to himself. 107 00:05:50.120 --> 00:05:53.639 Our story begins in Kendall County, Texas, in two thousand 108 00:05:53.680 --> 00:05:56.560 and three, and our central figure is fifty four year 109 00:05:56.560 --> 00:05:59.519 old Philip Michael Schue, who goes by the name Phil. 110 00:06:00.199 --> 00:06:02.879 Phil lives just outside the town of Bourne with his wife, 111 00:06:02.879 --> 00:06:05.600 Tracy Shoe, and holds the rank of colonel in the 112 00:06:05.720 --> 00:06:09.800 United States Air Force. Born in Brooksville, Ohio, Phil joined 113 00:06:09.800 --> 00:06:12.199 the Air Force in nineteen seventy and served as a 114 00:06:12.279 --> 00:06:15.360 navigator for four years, but had to cut his career 115 00:06:15.439 --> 00:06:18.839 short after he was diagnosed with Minier's disease, a disorder 116 00:06:18.879 --> 00:06:20.839 which was caused by the build up of fluid in 117 00:06:20.879 --> 00:06:23.839 the chambers of the inner ear. As a result, Phil 118 00:06:23.879 --> 00:06:26.920 had several episodes in which he experienced a sudden loss 119 00:06:26.920 --> 00:06:29.759 of consciousness, and of course, this made him too much 120 00:06:29.759 --> 00:06:33.079 of a liability to be an aviator. After leaving the 121 00:06:33.120 --> 00:06:36.040 Air Force for ten years, Phil trained to become a 122 00:06:36.040 --> 00:06:40.040 physician's assistant and completed medical school before he was accepted 123 00:06:40.319 --> 00:06:43.519 into a four year residency program at the Wright Patterson 124 00:06:43.600 --> 00:06:47.399 Air Force Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. Upon completion of 125 00:06:47.399 --> 00:06:50.120 this program, he was assigned to Eggland Air Force Base 126 00:06:50.160 --> 00:06:53.639 in Florida and became their chief medical director of impatient 127 00:06:53.680 --> 00:06:57.000 mental health. It was here where Phil became acquainted with 128 00:06:57.040 --> 00:06:59.720 his future wife, Tracy, who was assigned there as an 129 00:06:59.720 --> 00:07:02.879 Air Force forced nurse, and they gradually began a relationship. 130 00:07:03.279 --> 00:07:06.000 During this time period, Phil was legally separated from his 131 00:07:06.040 --> 00:07:08.879 first wife, Nancy, whom he had originally married back in 132 00:07:08.959 --> 00:07:12.680 nineteen seventy. And even if he 169 00:09:17.080 --> 00:09:20.639 wasn't going outside of his practice to seek professional help, 170 00:09:20.960 --> 00:09:23.279 he and his wife should have had many discussions where 171 00:09:23.279 --> 00:09:26.360 he was talking about his own mental health. And so often I've heard that therapist counselors, psychiatrists, psychologists, 199 00:10:46.080 --> 00:10:48.200 that a lot of them is kind of routine to 200 00:10:48.279 --> 00:10:52.399 go ahead and see another specialist because you're dealing with 201 00:10:52.480 --> 00:10:55.919 that mental health crisis all the time in your professional life. 202 00:10:56.559 --> 00:10:59.279 That is definitely true. They read body 216 00:11:37.480 --> 00:11:40.600 language and they do statement analysis and that type of 217 00:11:40.639 --> 00:11:43.000 a thing, and it's really good if anyone's interested. But 218 00:11:43.559 --> 00:11:46.639 he would go on these YouTube videos and he would 219 00:11:46.679 --> 00:11:49.200 like gray out. He wouldn't realize that he was having 220 00:11:49.240 --> 00:11:52.519 these moments where he was having a seizure. Essentially, they'd 221 00:11:52.559 --> 00:11:54.559 be like not like a grand Mall seizure, they're like 222 00:11:54.600 --> 00:11:57.120 these little seizures. But it got to the point where 223 00:11:57.159 --> 00:11:59.360 he just didn't see it in himself. But when he 224 00:11:59.399 --> 00:12:03.519 looked back in retrospect after getting this diagnosis, he realized, like, 225 00:12:03.639 --> 00:12:06.279 oh my god, this is something that's been happening for years, 226 00:12:06.519 --> 00:12:08.360 and people that are close to me might have noticed 227 00:12:08.360 --> 00:12:10.320 little things, but they just thought he's the top of 228 00:12:10.320 --> 00:12:13.559 his field, this is what he studies.
