We're actually going through three chapters today 11 00:00:44.799 --> 00:00:47.960 and that is a lot to cover, but I believe 12 00:00:48.079 --> 00:00:51.359 this is a very timely word for all of us Romans. 13 00:00:51.560 --> 00:00:54.880 Chapter nine to eleven. You know, when we talk about 14 00:00:54.880 --> 00:00:57.840 a book of Romance, we know this, and we've been 15 00:00:57.920 --> 00:01:02.039 preaching about this for the past fifteen weeks, almost majority 16 00:01:02.079 --> 00:01:07.000 of our year. We have told you that this book 17 00:01:07.079 --> 00:01:10.680 is actually a way for us to understand what the 18 00:01:10.719 --> 00:01:14.920 gospel really is. Chapter one to eight talks about how 19 00:01:15.239 --> 00:01:19.000 God has intervened in our lives. It's our personal walk 20 00:01:19.040 --> 00:01:22.319 with Him that we cannot be saved to our own 21 00:01:22.400 --> 00:01:26.519 efforts and as Paul, the author of this book, transitions 22 00:01:26.599 --> 00:01:29.760 not only for what we have experience in Christ, our 23 00:01:29.879 --> 00:01:33.040 personal walk with Him. Now he begins to talk about 24 00:01:33.319 --> 00:01:39.000 how God can use us. From chapter nine onwards, it's 25 00:01:39.159 --> 00:01:42.480 a discussion on how it is to be a believer. 26 00:01:42.879 --> 00:01:46.599 Not only that we are believers with a personal relationship 27 00:01:46.599 --> 00:01:49.519 with God, but we are also believers that God can 28 00:01:49.719 --> 00:01:53.560 use for the glory in the advancement of His kingdom. 29 00:01:54.120 --> 00:01:56.319 I always say this in a lot of my preachings, 30 00:01:56.359 --> 00:02:01.319 that Christianity is personal, but it's not. And so Paul starts chapter nine with 38 00:02:24.599 --> 00:02:29.240 this very passionate chapter. For me, it says, with Christ 39 00:02:30.120 --> 00:02:35.280 as my witness, I speak with utter truthfulness my conscience 40 00:02:35.360 --> 00:02:38.639 and the Holy Spirit confirms it. What was Paul talking about. 41 00:02:38.800 --> 00:02:42.000 He's saying that I am not lying. This is very important. 42 00:02:42.080 --> 00:02:45.319 This is a serious matter. And I know that God 43 00:02:45.560 --> 00:02:47.800 is the one who has given this burden to me. 44 00:02:48.080 --> 00:02:50.639 And what is he talking about? Verse two, It says, 45 00:02:50.919 --> 00:02:56.439 my heart is filled with bitter sorrow and an ending grief. 46 00:02:57.439 --> 00:03:00.599 What are the things that would actually give you bitter 47 00:03:00.719 --> 00:03:04.280 sorrow and then and ending grief? Probably for you, just 48 00:03:04.319 --> 00:03:06.120 like what Pastor Larry was sharing a while ago. But we see here Paul actually tells us 52 00:03:16.280 --> 00:03:20.520 that the feeling of that bitter sorrow and an ending grief, 53 00:03:20.599 --> 00:03:23.800 he gives us the reason. Verse three, it says for 54 00:03:24.039 --> 00:03:28.479 my people. He is going through that grief, that sorrow 55 00:03:28.639 --> 00:03:31.400 for his people, not for what he is going through. 56 00:03:32.000 --> 00:03:35.879 It says, for my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters, 57 00:03:36.280 --> 00:03:41.599 I would be willing to be forever cursed. Imagine Paul 58 00:03:41.680 --> 00:03:43.319 was saying this all Wai Land, that I will be 59 00:03:43.400 --> 00:03:49.560 forever cursed, cut off from Christ if that would save them. 60 00:03:49.680 --> 00:03:52.800 Although Paul knows that this is not the way to 61 00:03:52.879 --> 00:03:56.759 save people. It's not a negotiation between God that he 62 00:03:56.800 --> 00:03:59.159 would not say, Lord, I will give my life for 63 00:03:59.240 --> 00:04:02.759 my brothers just to save them and mean not to 64 00:04:02.800 --> 00:04:05.759 be saved. What he's saying is that this is the 65 00:04:05.800 --> 00:04:09.199 emotion that he would do anything, in everything so that 66 00:04:09.319 --> 00:04:14.080 his brothers and sisters, the Jewish believers, would be saved. 67 00:04:14.159 --> 00:04:16.839 He is a Jew and we know this. He is 68 00:04:16.879 --> 00:04:21.639 a Roman citizen as well. So as he continues this letter, 69 00:04:21.759 --> 00:04:24.920 we know that there's that compassion. We know that he 70 00:04:25.079 --> 00:04:30.480 is thinking about the people who are lost. How many of you 132 00:08:09.399 --> 00:08:12.720 that in your life today you still have family members, 133 00:08:13.480 --> 00:08:19.000 your best friends, your colleagues, your neighbors, and even your enemies. 134 00:08:19.519 --> 00:08:21.680 How many of you still believe that they will be 135 00:08:21.759 --> 00:08:25.600 saved one day? I believe all of us have these 136 00:08:25.920 --> 00:08:29.759 people in mind. But question is are we moving in 137 00:08:29.839 --> 00:08:33.039 compassion or are we just saying? In verse eight it says this means that 142 00:08:49.960 --> 00:08:55.919 Abraham's physical descendants are not necessarily children of God. Because during those times and 145 00:09:04.559 --> 00:09:08.879 sometimes until today, the people of Israel believe that they 146 00:09:08.919 --> 00:09:12.039 are the chosen One, and that is true, but some 147 00:09:12.120 --> 00:09:15.320 of them feel like yes, because they are part of 148 00:09:15.360 --> 00:09:18.759 that nation, or that they are descendants of Abraham and 149 00:09:18.919 --> 00:09:22.440 automatically they are saved. But the Bible says, and Paul 150 00:09:22.600 --> 00:09:26.000 begins to illustrate this in this chapter, that it is 151 00:09:26.159 --> 00:09:29.360 true the promised children. You have to understand, during the 152 00:09:29.480 --> 00:09:33.399 time when Abraham and Sarah received that promise that they 153 00:09:33.399 --> 00:09:38.039 will have children, they couldn't wait for God to answer 154 00:09:38.080 --> 00:09:41.639 his prayerings, so they did something on their own.
