When I first got to work 48 00:03:12.840 --> 00:03:16.120 in one of the big biggest psychiatric hospitals on the planet, 49 00:03:16.280 --> 00:03:20.319 Central State Hospital in Georgia. There were about ten thousand 50 00:03:20.400 --> 00:03:25.479 patients there when I got there, and a good many 51 00:03:25.520 --> 00:03:28.840 of them were paranoid schizophrenics, which is the most prevalent 52 00:03:28.879 --> 00:03:33.159 category of schizophrenia, and they were hearing voices that were 53 00:03:33.159 --> 00:03:39.159 sabotaging them, causing them trouble, and when they listened to them, 54 00:03:39.199 --> 00:03:41.439 they got into a lot of trouble. They got into fights, 55 00:03:41.919 --> 00:03:51.280 they sabotaged themselves, they self destructed, okay, And nobody at 56 00:03:51.280 --> 00:03:56.360 that hospital had actually taken any time to talk to 57 00:03:56.400 --> 00:04:00.000 these people about what these voices were in graduate school, 58 00:04:00.120 --> 00:04:05.039 medical school. The psychiatric mafia had declared that these voices 59 00:04:05.039 --> 00:04:11.199 were auditory hallucinations without any research whatsoever, only because that's 60 00:04:11.240 --> 00:04:18.560 what they appeared to be. So as I started questioning 61 00:04:19.199 --> 00:04:24.160 schizophrenics about what these things are telling you, I got 62 00:04:24.199 --> 00:04:29.160 blocked by psychiatry when one of the patients went and 63 00:04:29.240 --> 00:04:34.600 told a psychiatrist that I was asking him questions about 64 00:04:34.600 --> 00:04:38.560 his voices that he didn't like ended upsetting. I ended 65 00:04:38.600 --> 00:04:41.720 up in the front of the psychiatrists being ordered to 66 00:04:41.839 --> 00:04:44.879 not ask any more questions about the voices. That they 67 00:04:44.879 --> 00:04:48.959 were auditory hallucinations, that's what they were, and by asking 68 00:04:49.079 --> 00:04:52.680 questions about them to these patients that I was upsetting 69 00:04:52.759 --> 00:04:57.040 the patients and causing more damage. I knew that was 70 00:04:57.079 --> 00:05:00.480 a crock of crap at the time. He said, but 71 00:05:00.560 --> 00:05:04.759 you can't talk back to these people. They're just most 72 00:05:04.800 --> 00:05:10.480 of them are just very arrogant. So I went on 73 00:05:10.759 --> 00:05:17.040 kind of under the radar asking these people questions about 74 00:05:17.079 --> 00:05:21.959 the voices. I had to be very careful, but I 75 00:05:22.279 --> 00:05:26.399 really couldn't get into it until I left there. Finished, 76 00:05:27.720 --> 00:05:30.639 went through the PhD program for a couple of years, 77 00:05:31.160 --> 00:05:34.600 and then took a job with the Arizona state prison 78 00:05:35.240 --> 00:05:40.680 in the psychology department. Okay. There they were set up 79 00:05:40.720 --> 00:05:45.040 for violence. Okay, so if a psychiatric patient got violent, 80 00:05:45.399 --> 00:05:48.399 unlike at the state hospital, they had all the resources 81 00:05:48.439 --> 00:05:51.600 they needed to deal with that patient. And so they 82 00:05:51.600 --> 00:05:54.959 weren't afraid of people getting violent because it happened. I mean, 83 00:05:54.959 --> 00:05:58.199 it was almost a daily occurrence. So what I had 84 00:05:58.319 --> 00:06:04.680 was a group of schizophrenic that I had kind of 85 00:06:05.360 --> 00:06:07.800 told them, Hey, I'll do everything I can to help 86 00:06:07.839 --> 00:06:12.000 you with with your schizophrenia. In return, what I want 87 00:06:12.040 --> 00:06:14.720 you to do is tell me what these voices are 88 00:06:14.759 --> 00:06:21.360 telling you in our sessions in live, you know, immediately 89 00:06:21.399 --> 00:06:27.279 and live I mean, so they weren't they were as 90 00:06:27.360 --> 00:06:34.600 they appeared, okay. And after after they're telling me all 91 00:06:34.639 --> 00:06:37.560 these questions and me asking them thousands of questions over 92 00:06:37.879 --> 00:06:43.040 over a serial in many years, patterns started to appear 93 00:06:44.000 --> 00:06:47.879 with regard to these voices. Now, if they were hallucinations, 94 00:06:47.879 --> 00:06:52.560 there wouldn't be any patterns. And these patterns were consistent 95 00:06:53.040 --> 00:06:57.199 among hundreds of schizophrenics. They were all telling me. The 96 00:06:57.279 --> 00:06:59.920 voices were doing the same things, saying the same kind 97 00:06:59.920 --> 00:07:03.240 of things. One of the first patterns that appeared was 98 00:07:03.319 --> 00:07:07.040 that they were consistently negative. That was the most common 99 00:07:07.160 --> 00:07:14.399 consistent trained. They're constantly negative, derogatory, insulting, abusive, destruction, and destructive. 100 00:07:15.279 --> 00:07:17.959 You know, they may start off by telling the guy, hey, 101 00:07:18.879 --> 00:07:24.600 we can help you. We're positive spirits. They sometimes know 102 00:07:24.720 --> 00:07:30.240 things that the patient himself doesn't even know, and once 103 00:07:30.279 --> 00:07:35.680 they get the victim's attention, sink their claws into them. 104 00:07:35.680 --> 00:07:38.720 Then they turn on them and it becomes a very 105 00:07:38.759 --> 00:07:43.319 negative experience. But consistently, these voices are telling these patients 106 00:07:43.680 --> 00:07:51.120 you're ugly, you're stupid, nobody likes you, you're retarded. People 107 00:07:51.199 --> 00:07:55.839 are just faking like they're your friends. You know, people 108 00:07:55.839 --> 00:07:58.040 are the cops are out to get you. Somebody's going 109 00:07:58.079 --> 00:08:03.199 to murder you. It's always distantly negative, stuff like you're worthless, 110 00:08:03.519 --> 00:08:09.600 you're crazy, you know whatever. I mean. It was consistently negative. 111 00:08:10.600 --> 00:08:13.600 And one of the first questions I had was what 112 00:08:13.800 --> 00:08:19.360 holds it on a consistently negative track? Why aren't these 113 00:08:19.480 --> 00:08:26.600 things random like regular hallucinations. They weren't. I've found that very interesting, right, So I 124 00:08:59.639 --> 00:09:03.519 started passing out the twenty third Psalm to other schizophrenic 125 00:09:03.559 --> 00:09:08.759 patients and the responses were all very negative by the voices. 126 00:09:09.200 --> 00:09:11.759 The voices would tell them that's a bunch of crap. 127 00:09:12.360 --> 00:09:17.080 Stop this stuff. They would end up forgetting to read 128 00:09:17.120 --> 00:09:20.279 the psalm. When the voices came, they would lose the 129 00:09:20.320 --> 00:09:23.159 twenty third psalm. By the time they got back, they 130 00:09:23.240 --> 00:09:25.440 had either lost it or forgot to use it.
