It was signed last year by Democrat 9 00:00:24.280 --> 00:00:28.679 Governor Gavin Newsom, and the law controls local governments, which 10 00:00:28.679 --> 00:00:30.879 I guess is not surprising for California, who likes to 11 00:00:30.879 --> 00:00:33.439 control anything and everything they can get their hands on. 12 00:00:33.759 --> 00:00:39.640 But it specifically bans local governments from requiring IDs to vote. 13 00:00:40.039 --> 00:00:43.679 A very wide ranging law that would say no city, 14 00:00:43.920 --> 00:00:48.240 no county, no municipality that has its own election can 15 00:00:48.320 --> 00:00:51.439 have a different view than the state on this. So 16 00:00:51.560 --> 00:00:55.560 the state went in and banned any voter ID requirements whatsoever. 17 00:00:56.520 --> 00:00:59.640 Troubling law, I think the Gavin Newsom path and that 18 00:00:59.799 --> 00:01:02.799 just came into effect this week. But also interesting when 19 00:01:02.840 --> 00:01:06.040 you take in context the fact that Nevada had a 20 00:01:06.159 --> 00:01:09.560 similar law on their ballot in this last November as 21 00:01:09.680 --> 00:01:12.400 their voter statewide on a ballot measure whether or not 22 00:01:12.480 --> 00:01:15.719 they would like to impose voter ID requirements, and over 23 00:01:15.760 --> 00:01:19.319 seventy percent of Nevada and said yes. Now, this law 24 00:01:19.439 --> 00:01:22.519 also had voter ID requirements even for those who vote 25 00:01:22.599 --> 00:01:26.000 by mail. It required them, I believe, to submit a 26 00:01:26.159 --> 00:01:30.760 driver's license or social security number that could then be confirmed. 27 00:01:31.120 --> 00:01:33.599 So Nevada is a mixed voting state. You can vote 28 00:01:33.599 --> 00:01:36.519 in person or you can vote mail in ballot. Colorado, 29 00:01:36.599 --> 00:01:39.439 of course, is an all mail in ballot state. And it's particularly due to the long 200 00:10:22.000 --> 00:10:26.879 string of arrests by employees of the Jefferson County Public Schools, 201 00:10:26.919 --> 00:10:30.440 including a school counselor a social worker, a number of 202 00:10:30.440 --> 00:10:34.519 whom were arrested for sexual assault on a child by 203 00:10:34.559 --> 00:10:37.200 a person in a position of trust. This happened at 204 00:10:37.320 --> 00:10:40.440 least five times last year in Jefferson County Public Schools. 205 00:10:40.679 --> 00:10:44.240 Parents were obviously concerned when the chief of schools, who 206 00:10:44.320 --> 00:10:47.000 is in charge of a lot of the employees, was 207 00:10:47.159 --> 00:10:54.159 terminated with no explanation. Yesterday, County in Maryland, their Sheriff's 208 00:10:54.159 --> 00:10:57.320 office released to details that David Weize, who was the 209 00:10:57.399 --> 00:11:01.399 chief of schools, had killed himself and committed suicide in 210 00:11:01.480 --> 00:11:05.120 Maryland over the holidays, and so the Jefferson County Sheriff's 211 00:11:05.120 --> 00:11:08.840 Department released a statement on that and then today or actually, 212 00:11:08.840 --> 00:11:10.840 you know what, I think it actually happened yesterday. 213 00:11:10.840 --> 00:11:12.320 I'm looking at the email right now. 214 00:11:12.480 --> 00:11:16.320 So on January second, the superintendent and board president finally 215 00:11:16.399 --> 00:11:19.559 released an email to parents in the district.
