Hello everyone, Welcome back to a new episode of the Poker Go Podcast. My name is Donnie Peters. It is Oh wow, it's Sunday now, Sunday, June seventh, twelve, twenty seven. Am. I just got done. I just got home. Spent time going through the rundown for what we're going to talk about today for another day at the World Series of Poker. My day was all about playing Day one d of the Monster Stack. We did bag I'll talk about it a little bit later on in the pot He definitely want to hit on a bunch of the news and happenings that have happened around the World Series of Poker. You know, we had the special, the special episode with David odb Baker on the last episode. If you didn't catch that, you know, David's one of my salute favorite people in the world, not only in poker, so definitely go check that out. We talked at length about a whole bunch of stuff, WSP fantasy, him being the King of the Heart, rankings, all that sort of cool stuff. So definitely check that out. But because we did that, you know, we didn't really hit on some of the stuff that happened the day prior, so let me kind of touch on a few things in this episode also get you caught up on what happened on Saturday, and then we'll lead into Sunday. One of the things we're going to hit on is Jeff Madsen winning his fifth WSOP Gold bracelet. We also got to talk about the Japanese sensation Nihoa Kihara winning his second WSP Gold bracelet. He's also on a bit of a heater, and you'll find out why Frederick Normand won the fifteen hundred dollars PLO High Low for his first bracelet in a story that I feel like we get one of these pretty much every single year. All Right, the first thing we want to talk about here is Jeff Madson, former WSOP Player of the Year. On the episode that I did with ODB, you guys might have heard some of that loud cheering, that loud yelling going on in the background. That was celebrations for Jeff Madson because he won his fifth WSP Gold bracelet and one hundred and sixty one thousand dollars. He won the fifteen hundred dollars Dealer's Choice. I talked about that a couple of days ago on the Mini Mailbag episode when somebody asked, what's the most prestigious fifteen hundred dollars bracelet that's a non hold him event? I said it was this one, and Jeff Madson won the damn thing. Madson is also off to a pretty hot start to his summer, of course this win, but he has an eleventh place finish in the five k PLO from a few days ago, so he's starting to you know, we're starting to get the signs like, okay, he could be a contender for Player of the Year. Now I think he's gonna need a big, big, summer, Madson, right, you know, because the stuff that's coming up at Paradise at the end of the year, like Sean Deeve and all the heavy hitters are going to be very much in the mix for all that stuff. And we know WSB Paradise is just big Bayen's galore, So I think Jeff will probably need to do a lot of his point getting during the summer. And then obviously if you have a lot of point getting during the summer, that means some big results, so you have a bit of a larger bankroll, then you can fire some of the bigger stuff down at WSP Paradise if you do want to chase the Doubasipy Player of the Year title. He won it back in two thousand and six. He won two breasts that year. Belief he still holds the title as the youngest POI winner, and he mentioned I was reading through the Poker News recap over on pokernews dot com. By the way I shouted them out the other day, or I said go give them five stars or whatever. My fault there, but also yeah, you might as well go give them some love, you know, because that's what that's where I got my podcast start at the old PM pod. But yeah, but Mattson talked about, you know, wanting to go for the Player of the Year title again, and he said, like he's very much going for it now that he got this win, he got that eleventh place in the in the five KPL, He's he's very much in the thick of things. You know. Again, I do think he's going to need a very, very big summer. Jeff is a guy to me. Yes, he can play the big bet stuff, he can play Nolan and hold him. But I think he's somebody who's probably gonna have his results come more from the mixed game variety of tournaments. But that said, I mean there there's a ton of tournament. There's a ton of tournaments, not the twenty twenty six wsop that that Madson is going to be getting into. So you know, let's let's uh, let's see how he goes Now. I say that he's gonna need a big, big summer in my opinion to be able to compete with someone like Sean Dee. But I also won't be surprised in the slightest if he's in the mix. Okay, so just just keep an eye on that you know, Jeff Madson gets bracelet number five. He said he wants to chase that player of the year titled get It Again. So so you know, don't be don't be shocked when when Jeff Madson's you know, fighting with Sean deeb, you know till the bitter end of the summer. Just quickly on Madson's other four bracelets, I mentioned the two that he won in two thousand and six. I mean, he was a freaking baby when when he won those bracelets. He won the two K Nolanan hold Him for six hundred and sixty K. He won the five K Nolman HoldEm six Max event for six hundred and forty K. So's that's almost one point three million dollars between those two scores there. Then there was a little bit of a gap. Twenty thirteen is when his next bracelet came and it was in potlom and Omaha three K buy in PLO. He won three hundred and eighty four thousand dollars and then two years later, in two thousand and fifteen, he won the three K PLO High Low for three hundred and one thousand dollars. So then another bit of a gap from twenty fifteen to now eleven years for when he won his fifth w Soobgle bracelet. Buck congratulations two, Jeff Matsy Niowa Kihara. He grabbed his second w soop gold bracelet. Now, if you want to talk about a gap in bracelets, this is a big gap in bracelets. His second bracelet. His first one was back in twenty twelve when he won the five K PLO six Max for five hundred and twelve thousand dollars. This summer, Kihara won the ten K Nolan MEDUSA seven Singles Off for four hundred and twenty eight thousand dollars. You know, he did talk again just just reading through the Poker News recaps. You know, these guys, by the way, Poker News have been doing some great recaps this summer. You know, I'm a soccer for a good recap. I'm a soccer for some good quotes in there. And we've gotten some good stuff from the Poker News peeps this summer, and Kihara was talking about how basically he almost he wanted to quit tournament poker. He was thinking about quitting tournament poker, you know, just hadn't had really the results. He's also someone to me, you know, over the years, like playing the twenty five K Fantasy League, he's always kind of been on my radar. But since he had that win back in twenty twelve, it's like, you know, what kind of what happened? Because I remember when he kind of came around and he was kind of the hot new guy on the scene and everyone's like, okay, like he's he seems like he understands a lot of the different games. He's obviously out there blasting. He's doing well, like this is the guy now, right and for whatever reason, you know, I mean, variance is a bitch, I guess in tournament poker, but things didn't like totally work out for him in terms of winning, and that's ultimately what you're going to be measured by, and that's what people are going to remember you for. And yeah, you know, it took a while, but thankfully, at least for Kihara's sake, that he did give it one last go at it. He came out to the twenty twenty sixth dibicip and he's here winning his secondbsop goald Brace so that it comes with more than four under k. He said, he's going to be playing a lot of the bigger stuff now, and you know, while we're on him, he then goes and fires into the ten K Stud and he finishes day one with the chip Ley. So you know, the heater for Kihara is certainly real right now. And not only that, I mean, I might as well just stay on it for a second. But Kihara is in the final eleven of the ten K Stud Championship. They did bag with eleven players left, so they are entering day three. He is sitting six out of eleven. He's in the money right now for at least twenty four thousand dollars. There's more than three hundred thousand dollars up top. The eleven players are topped by the one and only the Grinder, Michael Mizeraki. I mean, this guy is absolutely freaking unreal with the way that he just seems to do things in tournaments. But yeah, Grinders on top of the ten K seven Card Stud Championship entering day three. Day three is on Sunday, got Chris Brewer and second James Chung, Ryan Miller, Jeremy Osmis, Jeremy Ols is back from an overseas trip to Japan. He did get his vlogger badge, so he is ready to go, and he is already in the final eleven of a tournament I mentioned Niowiki Aar was in sixth place. He is. Maxim piece Enko's in there. Alan Kessler megan a run this name, now this next name that I'm about to read. I walked through the field and I was like, hold on, this isn't a hold internal, What the hell is going on? Dan cepil Dan, I didn't know this guy knew how to spell stud let alone. Play it good. Old Danny boy out there. Brad Rubin is in there, and Jason Kluska as well. That rounds out the eleven players you had. David Odb Baker. I guess no podcast run good because he stone bubbled the event. And it was kind of a sick way in that there were two all ins. It was he was all in and Robert Miss Rocky was all in at the same table. Miss Rocky had ODB covered by one thousand chips, and you know, therefore he got the higher position and Odb stone bubbled it. But you know, as we know, king of the Heart rankings, mister Odb, he will be back firing again. In the next one, Frederick Normand won the fifteen hundred dollars PLO Hi Low for his first WSOP gold race. Atop the field of one thousand and ninety three entries, took home two hundred and thirty five thousand dollars. I mentioned that we always see something, or I feel like we always see something once a summer, and what it is is that if somebody wins a tournament that they've never played before. Normand had never played a PLO high low tournament before this one. He had played a big O tournament, I believe, but that's a different game. This is PLO high low. Now. Norman is a very good PLO player, very very good. So I'm thinking he's somebody who can just kind of figure it out on the fly. And obviously he figured it out because he won the damn tournament for two hundred and thirty five thousand dollars. Second place in this one was Michael Rodriguez. Good Old Rods was looking for his second Tabyssopigo bracelet a little bit late though. You know, we drafted him a couple of years ago on twenty five K Fantasy, but he didn't work out that summer. But here he is finishing second with a nice little score and josh Aria took third place here. Believe he was going for bracelets number eight josh Ari, but ultimately denied. There the twenty five k high roller is down to six. You got Galen Hall, Kristin fox Enjoey Wiseman, Bawding, Setnick Zizka, and Ignacio Moron are among this or are the six players remaining more than one point seven seven million dollars up top. It's just freaking wild to see what Kristin Foxing continues to do over and over and over again. I mean she is I think she's one of my like top three to five favorite players now. It's just simply incredible. I also like that she's got a good personality, Like she's she's fun at the table, Like obviously she gets focused in the zone and locks in when when it calls for it. But you know, earlier on in tournaments, she's she's talking, she's laughing it up, you know, all that sort of stuff, which makes for a good entertaining player. And she certainly plays an entertaining style as well. Galen Hall, I mean this guy, he just shows up every summer, plays a couple of tournaments here and there, and like final tables one or two of them every freaking summer. With this guy, it's it really is incredible and it speaks to just the type of talent that that Galen Hall is and like how good of a poker mind he is because he's not grinding a full tournament circuit. I mean, like like if you just were to compare him to christ Vaxin for example, she's playing everything all the time, right, She's traveling to Triton, she's playing at the studio for the PGT events, She's going all the big buy and stuff. You know. Galen Hall like pops in here there and always just seems to crush. Like it's just wild. Joey Wiseman, great player, you know, just coming off his marriage, so I know there's baby run Good. I don't know if there's you know, a new marriage run good, but if not, he has it. Bout Ding. I mean, this guy just always seems to freaking do it at the dibsip. Ever, since we all kind of got word, I would say from ren Linn, who bout ding is? You know, here he is and he's crushing I don't know, is that in exiska that well but a bit of a Dobissippi coming out party, I guess for him in terms of you know, at the at the main World Series of Poker. You know, it's just when you do it on a stage like this, you know, that's when it matters most. And he does have a WSFP gold bracelets. Yeah, he won a one K no limit event top the big old field of eighteen hundred and seventy three entries last year at the World Series of Poker. But you know what I'm getting at is when when you're in a twenty five k field like this, when you're up against the crushers, that this type of field brings out like that's when boom, You've made it. You know. I know a lot of people will say like, well, you know, kind of anyone can win a one k or a fifteen hundred or whatever. I mean, it's not that anyone can, but you know, there's just a wide variety of people that win those. But when you're up there and you're crushing and performing well in ten k's, you know, twenty five ks, even if you start going up to fifty k stuff like that. I mean, that's when like basically you become a maid man poker, and and Ziska here is obviously showing that that he has what it takes. Believe he was drafted in twenty five K Fantasy. Yes he was, so you know, another one who has the respect of his peers, you know, to go along with the fact that he is a successful players. Out of these players who have made the final six, here you have Kristin Foxen was drafted, Joey Wiseman was drafted, Zisko was drafted. As I just mentioned in the bow ding, it was the other one that was drafted, Galen Hall not drafted, and Ignacio Moron not drafted. Those players will be back on Sunday to finish it out. They are guaranteed a little bit over three hundred thousand dollars. Top two places are up in seven figures. It's one point seven million for first, one point one to eight for second, then a whole bunch of prize money up for grabs. My guess is my prediction is Kristin Foxen gets it done. I'm gonna say Kristen Foxen won, Joey Weisman two. That's what That's what I'm going with there switching things up. Now we are through the news, I want to talk a little bit about my day the Monsters dec I mean, this thing is First of all, I've never played this Monsters Act before. I've always wanted to play it, as I've talked about, never really could carve out the time, was able to carve out the time. This year, I'm happy I got to play it. I mean, what a freaking tournament this thing is. This thing is awesome. Structure is great, other than the fact that they have that silly dinner break in there, But other than that, structure's good. You know, you get a ton of play in this one, and you start with fifty k chips, hour long levels, blind start out one two hundred. You know, it's just it's a nice, slow, player friendly structure. We'll have Day two d on Sunday, and I believe they would play into the money at some point on that day, and then anyone who advances would advance with the other players who advance. Every Day one had its own day too, so there's a bunch of people that advanced already, and then everyone combines on Day three on Monday. Hopefully I'm in there as well, but yeah, this is a great tournament. So you start with fifty k. As I mentioned, I was able to put two hundred and fifty eight thousand in the bag. Not my peak. I did get up over three hundred thousand, but took a couple hits. At the end of the night in the final level, there was a gentleman on my right who was just out of control. I'll I mean, I might as well just talk about it. So first of all, I'm in Normandy. Okay, don't know why they put you in Normandy, but that was ridiculous. We get moved from Normandy to Horseshoe. It took ten minutes to go from Normandy to Horseshoe. We left in the second to last level of the night when there was exactly two minutes on the clock. By time we got to the other room, there was fifty two minutes on the clock. Eighty people just walking like halfway down the strip. It's just that they got to do something better than that. But anyway, I get moved in, I sit down at this table. Mike Didntali's there, don't know anyone else. Got to my right, starts talking about I have this little figurine of a black dog looks like my dog, Duke, and he starts asking me about it. He says, he tells me that he wants a dog to retire somewhere like basically like on a barn somewhere, or on a farm somewhere, not a barn, on a farm somewhere with a barn, just so his dog can just run around. He doesn't have to put him on a leash or whatever. But then about two minutes later he tells someone else at the table because someone asked him what he does, and he tells someone that he is retired. So I couldn't quite understand that if he wanted to retire or if he is retired. Then he proceeded to straddle three times from the under the gum position. He played ninety percent of hands. He went from two hunder k to bag. I played with him for forty minutes. He went from two hunderd K to nine hundred and like fifteen thousand or something like one of the hottest runs I've ever seen. Like he would just call bets on flop and turn with bottom pair, drill the trips on a river. Somebody would have like top two pair, and he would get paid like it was just wild shit from this guy. He would limp some hands, he would four and five x some hands. He was never folding to raises, really never ever folding to flop bets at all. I mean, it was just an absolute wild spin up for this guy. And if that's at one point he also said he asked if he could bag and tag his chips so he could go home. He's like, I have enough right to bag in tag. Can I just bag and tag and leave. Everyone's like, no, you have to actually play out till the end of the night. So that's the monster stack. But a couple of the key hands that I played, I pulled, I pulled five hands. I'm doing the thing where I write every hand down I can review it later. The first two that I'm going to tell you guys about two big folds. I guess maybe not that big one. I think was kind of big one was kind of standard. Maybe I even should have folded pre flop the first one. The cutoff opens to fourteen hundred. At three hundred six hundred, the button calls the small blind calls, I call him the big blind with pocket fives two black fives. The flop comes seven four three rainbow action checks around turn is a six, so I drill as straight small blind checks I bet fifteen hundred into what fifty six into like six thousand or so, like sixty four hundred or something very small cut off in the button both fold Small Wine calls River is the four of four of diamonds. Doesn't matter, that's a diamond, but River's a four pairs the board. Small blind just leads all in for fifteen thousand, two hundred over bets the pot, and I'm just like, what is this? And I'm just like, yeah, he's like does he have a five here? Like that? I mean that's I mean, obviously he can have a five, right, but is he doing that with a five? I don't know this. This guy seemed pretty straightforward in the time that I was playing with him. I ultimately just folded my hand, you know. I was just like, he can have a lot of combos of full houses here. I mean, there's still a combo of there's the eight five that can beat me for a higher straight. So yeah, I just said, you know what, I don't think that these players are just gonna go blasting over bets all in for their tournament life without it was kind of my decision there. So yeah, yeah. Then there's a hand where a woman who was who was playing pretty aggressive and she seemed she was tough, like she was doing a lot of like tricky things that were throwing a lot of players off. I did win some chips off her, you know, just gotten some fortunate situations against her. But she opens his hand under the gun. They're playing or playing three and six, and again she makes it twelve hundred next to act one of the gump plus one makes it thirty five hundred. A guy who was pretty standard ABC would even say, probably a little bit too tight, so he three bets next to act. It folds to me in the cutoff, and I look down and I got two Jack's jack Ahart Jack of Spades, and I'm like, hmm, I mean, we're like pretty deep here, and I'm just like, you know, we're like, I think, well, the woman was a little bit shorter, but the gentleman who who three bet he had probably one hundred big blinds and and I covered him slightly. So I'm thinking, you know, I don't know, I don't really want to just four bet this hand. I was like, I can probably just fold, but then I was thinking, you know what, I think I can just play a call and it's not the end of the world, because ultimately I think there's a highlighthood that everyone else behind me is going to get out of the way. There also might even be the possibility where she jams, being a little which shorter. She had like thirty big lines. He folds, and then I'll just call her jam with my jackson and end up. I called, and I called with the plan to proceed cautiously postflop. You know, even if I flop an overpair. Let's just you know, see how this one kind of develops. Woman calls from under the gun as well. It comes ten to seven, three, ten to seven of diamonds under the gun checks gentleman bets five K. I call, I have an overpayer. Can't just give it up just yet, you know, he can be He was also the type of player who I think would probably just even though he's out of position in a lot of spots, I think he would just bet hands like Ace King, for example. So I mean, I didn't really think he would have Ace Queen here. It's mostly Ace King, you know, And then probably a bunch of overpairs as well, so he bets five K. I call, she folds U turn is the five of diamonds, So diamonds do come in. He bets ten K. I just fold you pretty easy fold, I think there. So yeah, So those are two that I just lost kind of early on the big hand that really got my climb started is folds to me at five hundred, one thousand on the button, I make it twenty two hundred with queen Jack of clubs small blind believe he was from Argentina. Three bets to seventy five hundred, so I go two point two x. He goes seven point five X. He's about fifty four blinds deep. I think I cover. I call flop comes ten nine eight, bingo, just flop the nuts straight. He bets ten nine eight with two spades. He bets five thousand, and I just decided to raise right there. I mean, I think, you know, he's he can have a lot of hands that I think are just going to continue. I did see him three bets some ace wheel suited cards, you know, so he could have spades here and we just get it in. He could obviously have two overs in spades. He can have an overpair that I think he just overvalues. Yeah, I'm just happy to start putting money in here. I also, because of how wet the board was, I didn't want my action to get killed, Like if I call and let's say, like the turns seven for example, or you know, the turn is a queen or whatever it may be, and he kind of shuts down with his hand. I didn't want that to happen. And yeah, so I also wanted it to I put in a raise where I would you know, he had he had roughly forty five thousand going to the flop, so he bet five k. I was like, I can raise to an amount where maybe he thinks that he can put it in and get some folds out of me. I make it fourteen to five. He puts in forty five thousand. I obviously snapcall. He's had his ace a hard's ten of spades, so top pair with I guess backdoor spates. So it just bricks out and I win that one. That was a nice, healthy pot that really got me going. Then in the one fifteen hundred level, this was funny. So we get back from dinner, gentleman gets moved to my rights and he's like as soon as he sits down, he's just a fast talking guy. He's immediately telling us about he just lost some two hundred k pot. On the other table, he's showing the guy on the other side of him, he's directly to my right. He's showing the guy in the one seat whose name is Danny Pleasure, meeting you Danny. Like he's showing in the video of how he lost with his hand, and this is like this whole thing. He's going on and on on. So anyway, we go to dinner. We come back from dinner. There's eight players at the table, but only six of them are present. So on the first one, the first hand, the big blind is dead. That guy, the gentleman to my right, raises, everyone folds. The next hand, the big blind and the small blind are both dead. So there's four thousand of dead money in the middle. And I'm like, he's gonna he's gonna just keep doing this, like he's gonna try and be table captain, even though he's only got like fifty thousand or so chips and I have, like, you know, triple that. I think he's just the type of player who's just gonna try and be the table captain and just attack the dead money here. So he raises from the lowjack. He makes it four K. I look down and see two red jacks, and I'm just like, oh, this is beautiful, this is so beautiful. I make it eleven K, folds back to him. He he spends about a minute and a half counting down his chip stack over and over again. And I'm like, okay, like you just are you gonna put it all in? Like let's go all righty. I didn't say that, but in my head, I'm like, okay, what are we doing? He ends up just calling, So he just calls he's got about forty five thousand. Behind the flop comes Queen ten, six queen clubs, ten of clubs, six of spades. Remember I have red jacks, he checks. I go very small, thirty five hundred. He calls, turn is the five of clubs. So club jaw does get completed? He checks, I checked behind river is the queen of diamonds, the pair of the board. He jams all in for I think forty three thousand, five hundred. I pretty much snapped call. I'm not full. I probably wasn't folding a lot of rivers to this guy, I just I had kind of made up my mind. You know, maybe this is wrong, but I kind of made up my mind. This guy's just gonna blast off. So as long as the river, I felt was a pretty good one for me, and I thought pairing the Queen here was a pretty good card for me, all things considered. So I quickly call. He says, you got it. He had eight o'club seven of diamonds eight high. So I won that one. He was gone, and we're off and running. Then I won one more big one in the Normandy room before we moved over to the horseshoe. The cut off. My guy Danny believe he's from heard him say l Paso, Texas, very active player. He opens to the thirty five hundred, same level oney fifteen hundred. I call him the small wine with two threes. Big Blind calls it comes Jack ten three bingo rainbow as well. I checked, Big Blind checks cut off. That's five thousand. I call big mine folds turn six clubs, does bring in a second club? I checked, cut off goes eighteen thousand. I debated raising here, but I thought, you know, I just want to make sure that, like I keep all his bluffs in like I don't want to fold you know, if he's just blasting off, like I don't want to fold him out. So I'm just fine to just continue to slow play here. Also, I think, you know, him and I had kind of been battling, so you know, I thought he might like he could also be betting for value here and I just have that smashed, and I think he might try and go for some thinner value against me, and just like barrel off three streets, so I call rivers of the eight of spades, so you know, queen nine gets there, nine seven gets there, like if you have a come of like nine seven clubs, for example, I check he bets thirty three thousand, I just call. He ends up having jack ten off. So if I raise turn, I probably get all the money. I mean we had, we both had piles of chips, and yeah, maybe I left some money on the table there, but you know, allultimately, I think it's fine. Like the way he was thinking on the river too, I honestly thought he was going to go all in for like one point five x pot. I'm not folding. I'm just kind of you know, sy calling, And if you just decided to backdoor and then yolo and go for all of it. Then so be it. But yeah, that was my day overall. After I won that hand, I started to just kind of play a lot of pots over and over again. Did pretty well, won a couple all ins against some shorter stacks. Awesome against some shorter stacks. Just is what it is. Got up over three hundred thousand, bag two under in fifty eight thousand, come back to twenty five hundred big blind so I'll have a little bit over one hundred big blinds to work with. This tournament's simply incredible, absolutely incredible, So I'm looking forward to it. Day two d is on Sunday, and hopefully I continue can continue to make a run in this thing. The other events that kicked off on Saturday, you had the twenty five K high Roller six Max, Nick Shulman bagging the day one chip lead.
