And yesterday there was another shooting. I watched the news 20 00:01:25.239 --> 00:01:29.719 last night. The city police are going to shut down one of the feeder 21 00:01:29.760 --> 00:01:34.200 streets to Vine Street, maybe stop some of the drug dealing. She did a 23 00:01:38.120 --> 00:01:44.920 two part to long report on literally hundreds or thousands of crimes committed there every 24 00:01:44.959 --> 00:01:49.400 few days and which individuals shoot up needles, crack cocaine. With the police, they crack down on those corners and they 35 00:02:34.159 --> 00:02:38.120 run the bad element out of there, and they put the people to get 36 00:02:38.120 --> 00:02:44.039 caught in jail, and my prosecutors put them in prison, whether that's Covington, 37 00:02:44.080 --> 00:02:46.520 Newport, out in Florence, anyplace else in northern Kentucky, all three 38 00:02:46.560 --> 00:02:51.280 counties I think take a similar approach that we're not going to tolerate that, 39 00:02:51.479 --> 00:02:54.159 and that really tolerance is what this all comes down to. People start doing their jobs. But she wasn't getting off the bus fast enough. And for them to say that's okay, we're going to tolerate 85 00:06:01.639 --> 00:06:08.839 that just because that's a neighborhood where poor people live is incredible discrimination. We don't want to come into 113 00:08:03.279 --> 00:08:05.639 Kentucky. And we're confident that if anybody ever tried it, we're not going 114 00:08:05.639 --> 00:08:09.839 to tolerate it. All right, now, let's get on to this one 115 00:08:09.839 --> 00:08:13.920 case in twenty oh six. This is I find this fascinating. I guess 116 00:08:13.959 --> 00:08:18.399 Timothy Delahanty, who's now thirty seven, so what eighteen years ago, heck, 117 00:08:18.439 --> 00:08:26.560 he would have been nineteen, confessed came forward as a murderer and it 118 00:08:26.639 --> 00:08:31.279 was a cold case and then he almost killed Jonathan Masqel. The two were 119 00:08:31.279 --> 00:08:35.879 in an enclosed outdoor recreation area. Described the twenty oh six cold case, 120 00:08:37.200 --> 00:08:39.679 and then dela Hanty, who's now thirty seven, popped up and said, 121 00:08:39.720 --> 00:08:45.000 I did it well. That case was so cold and so old, Willy, 122 00:08:45.080 --> 00:08:48.080 that it actually predates my time. Has become alost attorney. There was 123 00:08:48.080 --> 00:08:52.360 a murder of stabbing death of a gentleman who lived in a trailer park out 124 00:08:52.360 --> 00:08:56.360 in Elsmere. Timothy dela Hanty was the only suspect in that murder, but 125 00:08:56.399 --> 00:09:00.200 there was insuffition proof to actually charge him because we knew we couldn't win a 126 00:09:00.279 --> 00:09:05.039 trial with what had been collected at the time. He was the only suspect. 127 00:09:05.080 --> 00:09:07.240 He's been only the only suspect the entire time. Now, I'm sure 128 00:09:07.240 --> 00:09:11.600 this is gonna be hard to imagine, Willie, But Timothy Delahunty did not 129 00:09:11.720 --> 00:09:16.840 spend the last eighteen nineteen years working hard, paying taxes, in going to 130 00:09:16.000 --> 00:09:20.720 church. He has committed multiple felonies. He's bounced in and out of prison 131 00:09:20.919 --> 00:09:26.000 ever since for other lower level offenses. Well, he gets out of prison, 132 00:09:26.080 --> 00:09:28.639 he's not been out very long. I guess he decided he wanted to 133 00:09:28.679 --> 00:09:33.559 go back, or he was tired of the responsibility and the stress of having 134 00:09:33.600 --> 00:09:37.519 to decide for yourself what time to get up or go to bed, or 135 00:09:37.559 --> 00:09:39.480 where you're going to get a job, and how you're going to pay your 136 00:09:39.519 --> 00:09:43.080 bills, things like that. He decided he wanted to go back to prison. 137 00:09:43.120 --> 00:09:46.200 So he walked up to a Covington police officer and then, I want 138 00:09:46.240 --> 00:09:50.399 to talk to you about a murder that I did eighteen years ago in Elsmere, 139 00:09:50.480 --> 00:09:54.840 Kentucky. Unfortunately that officer just is Covington officer, but he happened to 140 00:09:54.840 --> 00:10:00.240 be familiar with the murder out in Elsmere. Knew a little bit of about 141 00:10:00.240 --> 00:10:03.919 it because he had worked in Elsmere for a little bit, and he knew 142 00:10:03.399 --> 00:10:07.120 while he called me because he knew I would remember. I was probably one 143 00:10:07.159 --> 00:10:09.120 of the only ones that would remember it because it's been so long ago, 144 00:10:09.200 --> 00:10:13.919 but called me. I called in Elsmere's new detective, who ironically worked for 145 00:10:15.000 --> 00:10:18.679 Covington Police at the time that murder happened, but he's now the Elsmere detective. 146 00:10:18.720 --> 00:10:20.960 He came in, talked to Dela Hanty, and Dela Hanty admitted to 147 00:10:22.000 --> 00:10:28.399 everything. So he's incarcerated and Kenton County Detention Center awaiting trial for that murder, 148 00:10:28.399 --> 00:10:31.279 and of course, like everybody, he's innocent until proven guilty, but 149 00:10:31.360 --> 00:10:35.000 we intend to do that soon enough. But while he's in there waiting trial 150 00:10:35.039 --> 00:10:39.440 for that cold case Elsmere murder, he took it upon himself to attack a 151 00:10:39.720 --> 00:10:45.480 different inmate named Jonathan matt Feel who also is in our detention center for murder. 152 00:10:46.120 --> 00:10:50.759 And ironically, the murder he committed was committed in our Kenton County Detention 153 00:10:50.919 --> 00:10:54.120 center where he stomped another inmate on the head until he killed him. Geez 154 00:10:56.000 --> 00:10:58.759 that he has pled guilty but mentally ill, and I was waiting sentencing for 155 00:10:58.840 --> 00:11:03.360 that murder when Timothy Delahanty attacked him from behind, put him in a choke 156 00:11:03.399 --> 00:11:09.440 hold, choked him unconscious, and then once he had thrown his lifeless body 157 00:11:09.480 --> 00:11:13.039 on the ground, dela Hanty realized he was still breathing and still alive, 158 00:11:13.120 --> 00:11:18.360 so he started stomping on Jonathan Maskill's head and it was about seven stomps into 159 00:11:18.399 --> 00:11:22.320 it when the jail guard realized what was going on and came running into this 160 00:11:22.480 --> 00:11:26.879 recreation area where the two had been put out to get their their time in 161 00:11:26.879 --> 00:11:30.639 the out of a recreation area, so he put a stop to it. 162 00:11:31.440 --> 00:11:35.720 Dela Hanty is now facing attempted murder, strangulation, and assault charges. But 163 00:11:35.840 --> 00:11:41.840 because of all those prior felony offenses that Dela Hanty committed in the eighteen years 164 00:11:41.879 --> 00:11:46.120 he's been on the street after the Ellsmere murder, he's now eligible for sentencing 165 00:11:46.200 --> 00:11:52.600 enhancement as a persistent felony offender if convicted. So he is ironically looking at 166 00:11:52.639 --> 00:11:56.159 just as much time in prison for the attempted murder as he is for the 167 00:11:56.200 --> 00:12:01.000 original murder itself, well, when he killed Paul Clayton and Ellesmere eighteen years 168 00:12:01.000 --> 00:12:03.679 ago. Since then he's been in a crime spree of his own. But 169 00:12:03.960 --> 00:12:07.399 I assume he was going to get decades in jail for the murder of Paul 170 00:12:07.440 --> 00:12:13.159 Clayton. So isn't this almost stomping death of his other murderer kind of like 171 00:12:13.200 --> 00:12:16.600 a freebie? Well not exactly, Willie, because he never know what a 172 00:12:16.679 --> 00:12:22.440 jury's gonna do. And even though you know he's told police that he's responsible 173 00:12:22.519 --> 00:12:26.000 for it, who knows he could claim that he was mentally ill, or 174 00:12:26.279 --> 00:12:31.039 suffering from an extreme emotional distress, or any one of those creative things that 175 00:12:31.240 --> 00:12:33.960 defense attorneys are paid big money to come up with. He could claim one 176 00:12:33.960 --> 00:12:37.080 of those a trial, but now we got sort of a safety net, 177 00:12:37.120 --> 00:12:41.240 now, a little backup plan that he's also facing this attempted murder charge. 178 00:12:41.240 --> 00:12:46.600 And like everything in detention center, it happened in front of a security camera, 179 00:12:46.720 --> 00:12:48.600 so it's all on film. It's our only state psychiatric correctional facility. And he stays 187 00:13:20.480 --> 00:13:24.080 in that medical facility until they say he's cured and then they put him into 188 00:13:24.120 --> 00:13:28.960 the regular prison population. But either way, he's staying locked up for his 189 00:13:28.159 --> 00:13:33.000 entire sense. I don't know rob Sanders. I don't know. And the 190 00:13:33.039 --> 00:13:37.200 only good thing is two murderers attacked. In a sense, one attack the 191 00:13:37.279 --> 00:13:39.279 other. Both of them are bad ombres that need to be locked up the 192 00:13:39.279 --> 00:13:43.080 rest of their life. We had another bad ombre a couple days ago who 193 00:13:43.200 --> 00:13:48.240 was committing murders when he was fourteen years old in Cincinnati. One of the 194 00:13:48.240 --> 00:13:50.200 first things the gang leader said to this fourteen year old, by the way, 195 00:13:50.519 --> 00:13:54.679 it was not quite to use high school. You have to kill someone 196 00:13:54.720 --> 00:13:58.840 to prove your chop. So he hunts down somebody, another young black, 197 00:14:00.279 --> 00:14:03.440 and kills him to prove he's going to be a killer. So he's killed 198 00:14:03.480 --> 00:14:05.799 four people. And you know, we're trying to eliminate murders 208 00:14:45.720 --> 00:14:48.960 altogether in Kenton County. We don't want anybody getting killed, no matter where 209 00:14:48.960 --> 00:14:52.840 they are. But if we can confine the homicides or attempted homicides to the 210 00:14:52.879 --> 00:14:58.039 detention center, well that's a good thing because that means only people that have 211 00:14:58.080 --> 00:15:01.080 broken the law in the first place are at ri But we don't even want 212 00:15:01.120 --> 00:15:05.240 that happening in our detention center. So we are going to take this case 213 00:15:05.240 --> 00:15:09.639 against mister Dela Hanty very seriously, and it's our intention, before it's all 214 00:15:09.679 --> 00:15:15.000 said and done, that we will never see him on the outside of prison 215 00:15:15.039 --> 00:15:18.960 walls again, and we'll know that the community is safe because mister Dayla Hanty, 216 00:15:18.279 --> 00:15:22.919 like every other murder, is locked up where they should be.
