Just from the beginning elaborate on the title. Well, 26 00:01:57.120 --> 00:02:01.959 there's a viewpoint in evangelic that says, since we live in a post 27 00:02:02.079 --> 00:02:08.199 Christian world quote unquote, and people reject the Bible, then don't, especially 28 00:02:08.199 --> 00:02:13.159 in the political arena, when you're arguing for policy, don't try to argue 29 00:02:13.159 --> 00:02:16.840 from scripture. That's passe, that's of the past. So is that a 30 00:02:16.919 --> 00:02:22.120 correct view or not? I had one evangelical leader some years ago call me 31 00:02:22.159 --> 00:02:25.120 out on the carpet saying you can't do that in DC. If you do, 32 00:02:25.280 --> 00:02:28.960 we'll go to war with you. And I thought, wow, is 33 00:02:29.000 --> 00:02:31.879 that bizarre. So I have my own views on that that are centered from 34 00:02:31.919 --> 00:02:37.599 scripture frank out of Romans chapter one today, if I may, I'm sure 35 00:02:37.599 --> 00:02:40.439 there's some listeners that would think I'd like to know a little bit more about 36 00:02:40.599 --> 00:02:45.360 that exchange, and just in a moment or two, what do you think 37 00:02:45.400 --> 00:02:49.560 he was thinking of? And what's the biblical truth about such things? Well, 38 00:02:49.599 --> 00:02:53.000 you know, it gets into what we call the study of epistemology and 39 00:02:53.159 --> 00:02:59.960 pistemology is what is your starting points for veracity? And so what a second 40 00:03:00.000 --> 00:03:05.599 deals or a Christian who lives in the secular world would say that upholds that 41 00:03:05.680 --> 00:03:14.560 position is since people reject the Scripture itself as the authority for your epistemological starting 42 00:03:14.599 --> 00:03:17.879 point, that you need to use other starting points that are also truthful, 43 00:03:19.000 --> 00:03:24.560 like a survey of what the public believes, or scientific evidence or appealing to 44 00:03:24.680 --> 00:03:29.680 conscience. And we'd say, yeah, those probably all have their place, 45 00:03:30.479 --> 00:03:36.360 but why throw out your home court advantage, which is the veracity of the 46 00:03:36.400 --> 00:03:43.400 inerrant infallible, plenarily inspired, authoritative oracle of God. Amen. And so 47 00:03:44.159 --> 00:03:49.159 what this study is all about centers from what we would call from Romans chapter 48 00:03:49.240 --> 00:03:54.879 one, as propagated by the famous apologists Cornelius van Till. We'd call this 49 00:03:55.120 --> 00:04:03.240 presuppositional apologetics versus the viewpoint of evidential apologetics. And let me try to unpack 50 00:04:03.319 --> 00:04:09.840 that. Please. The presuppositionalist would say, I'm going to presuppose that scriptures 51 00:04:09.879 --> 00:04:14.199 written on your conscience, and I'm going to peel to that from the basis 52 00:04:14.240 --> 00:04:17.199 that all you're doing and saying you don't believe the Bible is you're just suppressing 53 00:04:17.240 --> 00:04:20.399 that which you know to be true because it's written on your heart. Whereas 54 00:04:20.399 --> 00:04:26.279 the evidentialists would fall for the quip back, well, I don't believe in 55 00:04:26.279 --> 00:04:28.439 the Bible, and say, well, since you don't believe in the Bible, 56 00:04:28.560 --> 00:04:31.000 let me try to prove to you why the Bible is truthful. Well, 57 00:04:31.600 --> 00:04:35.800 you could argue to the end of the day typically and not get that 58 00:04:35.879 --> 00:04:42.319 person to agree that the Bible is authoritative. Why because every person wants to 59 00:04:42.360 --> 00:04:46.360 be a good friend to themselves, and since they come with the chip inside 60 00:04:46.079 --> 00:04:50.759 which is their conscience, which has been programmed by God as to what is 61 00:04:50.800 --> 00:04:57.199 morally truthful and what's not. That person in order to live and what we'll 62 00:04:57.199 --> 00:05:01.360 call ecostasis, where there's a balance between what they do and what they believe. 63 00:05:01.600 --> 00:05:08.160 They're either going to jack up their actions with their belief which is written 64 00:05:08.160 --> 00:05:12.199 on their heart, or they're not going to change their actions. And so 65 00:05:12.279 --> 00:05:16.800 to live in balance with self is that they lower their standard as to what 66 00:05:16.879 --> 00:05:24.800 they think is truthful by discounting their conscience. And Romans one talks about that 67 00:05:24.879 --> 00:05:30.279 and uses the word suppression, that they suppress the truth in their unrighteousness. 68 00:05:30.319 --> 00:05:34.639 And as John three says, that they basically know what's right to do, 69 00:05:34.720 --> 00:05:39.759 but because their deeds are evil, they suppress that truth. And so the 70 00:05:39.839 --> 00:05:44.360 presuppositionless knows all that from Scripture. So at the end of the day, 71 00:05:44.639 --> 00:05:49.000 he says to the person suppressing his own conscience, he says, so who 72 00:05:49.040 --> 00:05:54.759 should I believe you who say you don't believe in the Bible, or should 73 00:05:54.800 --> 00:05:58.360 I believe in what the Bible says about you? Well, I choose the 74 00:05:58.480 --> 00:06:03.639 latter. This is what presuppositional apologetics is all about. But when we talk a little bit more about the idea of conscience, 79 00:06:21.279 --> 00:06:26.839 and you write in one of the segments called the testimony of conscience, 80 00:06:27.160 --> 00:06:30.639 Yeah, so let me draw an analogy there a picture. Some years ago, 81 00:06:31.480 --> 00:06:38.079 one of the American computer manufacturers used to deliver all their computers with their 82 00:06:38.120 --> 00:06:42.759 own software inside, which was pretty much non overwritable, and so they were 83 00:06:42.800 --> 00:06:47.399 sued in the European court for monopolistic reasons, and they were found to be 84 00:06:47.480 --> 00:06:53.959 guilty of it because basically they were delivering a product that had their own conscience 85 00:06:54.040 --> 00:06:57.240 inside of it. Well, in a sense, that's what God does with 86 00:06:57.279 --> 00:07:01.240 every human being that he manufactures, as that he delivers the product with his 87 00:07:01.439 --> 00:07:09.680 own circuitry or his own software, and that software is revelatory of the manufacture. 88 00:07:09.879 --> 00:07:13.639 It's got his imprint on it. And you don't have to tell a 89 00:07:13.839 --> 00:07:17.800 child to know what's right and wrong. You don't have to tell someone in 90 00:07:17.879 --> 00:07:24.680 another culture or another time what is right or wrong they already know it because 91 00:07:24.720 --> 00:07:29.839 it's written on their conscience by the manufacture. And so what the person who's 92 00:07:29.959 --> 00:07:34.279 living apart from obedience to that conscience does is they begin to suppress. And 93 00:07:34.399 --> 00:07:41.680 Romans One says they can suppress to the point of cauterizing the conscience. And 94 00:07:41.800 --> 00:07:45.720 that English word is from the medical industry, but it comes from the Greek 95 00:07:45.839 --> 00:07:49.639 New Testament, which is cotur rizo, which is where a person basically, 96 00:07:49.759 --> 00:07:57.639 after denying their conscience for so long, they fry the chipboard and it no 97 00:07:57.759 --> 00:08:03.920 longer works. And so we see that manifest in three evidences in Romans one, 98 00:08:03.959 --> 00:08:09.639 where three times Paul says to the church at Rome and God gave them 99 00:08:09.800 --> 00:08:16.319 over, and then he lists evidences each time of what that characteristically looks like. 100 00:08:18.040 --> 00:08:22.959 And so we can know, especially where I minister in DC and the 101 00:08:22.959 --> 00:08:28.360 political arena, and we don't want to have a judgmental spirit here, but 102 00:08:28.680 --> 00:08:31.759 in these are infinitive verbs, meaning they're ongoing. We can know that over 103 00:08:31.840 --> 00:08:39.120 a long time, if a person is a reprobate, if they're depraved, 104 00:08:39.639 --> 00:08:45.799 if they have a coterized conscience, by these monikers of distinctiveness that are given 105 00:08:45.840 --> 00:08:52.039 to us in scripture, and one is sexual perversion. Another is they actually 106 00:08:52.159 --> 00:08:58.360 give they give license to things that are wrong, and they don't agree with 107 00:08:58.519 --> 00:09:03.399 things that are right. Their conscience is so screwed up. And so we 108 00:09:03.600 --> 00:09:11.440 as believers should be able to ascertain who the scripture rejectors are, and Scripture 109 00:09:11.480 --> 00:09:16.120 says we shouldn't really negotiate with them, we should call them out and see 110 00:09:16.200 --> 00:09:20.200 them for who they are. And unfortunately DC is full of them. Yeah, 111 00:09:20.840 --> 00:09:24.519 and it's a real sad state. And so how you react to that 112 00:09:26.320 --> 00:09:30.360 has a lot to do with if we're going to have a testimony in DC 113 00:09:30.639 --> 00:09:33.759 or not, or in any state capital or in any city government where oftentimes 114 00:09:33.799 --> 00:09:39.399 it's full of reprobation of people with coterized consciences. So, again not to 115 00:09:39.440 --> 00:09:43.600 be redundant. Here in your study, which is in depth, you give 116 00:09:43.679 --> 00:09:48.320 lots of examples of how we are to respond. And instead of going, 117 00:09:48.399 --> 00:09:54.440 I wash my hands, reprobate mine, they're doomed. Maybe the first thing 118 00:09:54.480 --> 00:09:58.159 that comes to your mind about your study about how do we respond other than 119 00:09:58.200 --> 00:10:03.879 being biblically informed and being willing to confront lovingly, but how do we respond? 120 00:10:03.799 --> 00:10:09.960 Well, that's part informed by Jesus in several ways. One is this 121 00:10:09.120 --> 00:10:13.159 parable of the tears. Now in the parable of the terrors, Remember Frank, 122 00:10:13.240 --> 00:10:16.080 he talks about how the terrors grow up with a wheat and you can't 123 00:10:16.080 --> 00:10:20.320 distinguish them one from another, and he doesn't say to root them out. 124 00:10:20.519 --> 00:10:24.240 So in one sense, Jesus is saying, during the church age, you're 125 00:10:24.240 --> 00:10:28.240 going to have to live with these kinds of people. A Jude, the 126 00:10:28.240 --> 00:10:31.240 Book of Jude, right before the Book of Revelation, is all about the 127 00:10:31.559 --> 00:10:37.440 acts of the apostates. In note, the Acts of the Apostles is the 128 00:10:37.440 --> 00:10:41.039 book of Acts. The acts of the Apostates is the Book of Jude. 129 00:10:41.360 --> 00:10:46.159 And in the Book of Jude he gives you nine characteristics of an apostate. 130 00:10:46.480 --> 00:10:52.440 What's the difference between an apostate and a reprobate and a tear? That's quite picturesque, 136 00:11:22.559 --> 00:11:28.519 quite strong, quite in essence offensive language today in a woke America. But 137 00:11:28.639 --> 00:11:35.879 suffice to say, there's this in answer to your question, a need to 138 00:11:35.000 --> 00:11:41.320 call them out. Paul says, in the pastorals that were soldiers of Christ, 139 00:11:43.039 --> 00:11:48.720 and he tells Timothy to war against them. He says, God hasn't 140 00:11:48.759 --> 00:11:52.120 given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound 141 00:11:52.159 --> 00:11:54.840 mind. And so I have to say to some guys in DC who either 142 00:11:54.960 --> 00:12:01.840 colleagues or apostates, or tears or reprobates, and answer your question, how 143 00:12:01.840 --> 00:12:05.720 do you deal with them? You've got to be strong and courageous and say, 144 00:12:05.840 --> 00:12:11.639 thus, saith the Lord. You're acting in a way that is not 145 00:12:11.919 --> 00:12:16.320 biblical. And don't tell me you don't believe in the Bible. You do. 146 00:12:16.039 --> 00:12:20.440 It's just that you're suppressing it. In Chapter two, 178 00:15:05.320 --> 00:15:07.759 verse fifteen, Paul goes on to say that the law is written on 179 00:15:07.799 --> 00:15:15.559 their hearts, and it's evidenced by the fact that sometimes their conscience defies them 180 00:15:15.639 --> 00:15:22.200 and sometimes it blesses them, which shows that each person is morally made and 181 00:15:22.320 --> 00:15:28.279 knows right from wrong.
