But there's an old thing. The only thing you need to play this game is a chip in a chair. But to sit down and win against the best, you need a whole lot more. Poker actually isn't about winning and losing. Poker is about making the right decision. You got to know when to call, when to fold, when to push all in. When luck shut the door, you got to come in through the winds, and that's where the skill comes in. You got to have the courage to blood. Courage doesn't necessarily mean the absence of fear, but you gotta swallow that pride, and you got to throw your hand away when you know your beat. When you're really on your game, you can look at your opponent in the eye and you know if you've got him, or you know if he's got you. It doesn't matter how good you are. Everything can change when those cards are in the air. We don't stop playing because we get old. We get old because we stop playing. That's poker, folks. Hello everyone, WelCom to a new episode of the Poker Go Podcast. My name is Donny Peters. I'm joined by Tim Duckworth. We're recording this on Monday, May twenty second. Just one week after we received the sad, sad news last Sunday evening that Doyle Brunson, the god father of poker, had passed away. Sunday May fourteenth, news started to circulate of Doyle's passing of circulating on on Twitter, mostly also through some group chats, text messages, stuff like that, And then it was confirmed via Brunson's longtime agent and good friend, Brian Ballsbaugh. He shared the following on social media on behalf of the Brunson family, Ballsbo wrote, it is with a heavy heart we announced the passing of our father, Doyle Brunson. He was a beloved Christian man, husband, father, and grandfather. We'll have more to say over the coming days as we honor his legacy. Please keep Doyle and our family in our prayers. He rest in peace. Sincerely, the Brunson family. And then not too long after that, Todd Brunson, Doyle's son and a fame poker player in his own rights, also confirmed the news on Twitter when he tweeted, yes, I'm sorry, it's true. Rip Doyle for me when it comes to poker players, you know, Doyle Brunson, was it? I guess is like the best way to describe it. He was the epitome of a poker player through and through. He's someone who very much impacted every single person in the game. Whether you touched a deck of cards one time, a single poker chip, whatever it was, one way or another, Doyle Brunson had an impact on you. He was a legend, He was an icon. He was a hero to many of us in the industry. He lived one heck of a life before passing at the age of eighty nine. And while one might think it's easy to think that, you know, well, it's great that he lived such a great life and he was eighty nine. Too many, I think myself included, you know, he was like the guy they would never get. He just seemed to survive everything. He seemed invincible in that sense, at least as invincible as a human could be. He was so big to poker that those words that I just mentioned to describe him legend, icon and hero, they seemed to fall short of what he meant to the industry and so many of us in it. No one in poker had the impact that Doyle did, and there are few people who impacted their respective industries to the extent that Doyle impacted his being poker of course. I mean his nickname the Godfather of poker. I mean that really is it, Like he truly was the godfather of the game. He will be very, very very missed, Tim. I mean, it was sad news going around Sunday evening afternoon when ever it was, you know, And now that we're you know, just over a week removed, what are your thoughts. I mean, first of all, you said that accidently. Couldn't said it any better myself. Yeah, it still doesn't feel real, to be honest. You know, like you said, he was eighty nine, but we didn't even though he was eighty nine, we didn't feel like it was ever gonna happen. Right, He just kept beating everything. He was always around, always, you know, playing something, and he was always part of our lives in some way, whether you're rewatching old shows on Poker Go or you you you know, he's following him on Twitter. He's a great, great, great account to follow on Twitter. And yeah, it's it's it's it's very sad, and it's something that I think affects every one of us that have that are in the industry. Yeah, Doyle was born August tenth, nineteen thirty three, in Texas. He died May fourteen, twenty twenty three, in Las Vegas. He had ten World Series of Poker Gold brace So it's twenty six final tables, thirty seven cashes, just over three million dollars and earnings. I mean that that really doesn't do his career justice. You know, I think Doyle would have been the first. I told you, and I think he said it over the years that if he knew how big bracelets were going to be, he would have chased them more in the earlier years when they were around. You know, a lot of times he would be like, Oh, there's a big cash game gone on over there, so I'm gonna go play that. And then to me, at least, it's it's the cash game stuff, the high stakes cash game stuff that really shines among his legacy of achievements. And it's like the longevity of it all playing the highest stakes, whether being Bobby's room or elsewhere, you know, coming up from being that Texas road gambler and then being at the Blagio playing two K, four K, three K, six K, whatever the heck the limits got up to. You know, Doyle was there. He was there every single day. I know that the tournaments got a bit old to him and tiresome to him as he got older, but he always still made time for those high stakes cash games, being able to come and go as he pleased a bit more and everyone that played with him, by all accounts and even the accounts that came out afterwards. You know, now people are sharing all their memories of him on on social media, So that despite what he might have looked like physically, you know, limping around with his cane, riding the scooter, all that sort of stuff, his mind was as sharp as ever at the table, both in his play and then also probably some of the jabs he threw at you with a joke here there. You know, Doyle certainly quick witted and not scared to go at you with a little bit of it, so that that's really what stuck out to me. And then just overall, I mean, like my last memory of Doyle was the doubs ifp at the Rio the last year when he came and he was playing in the main event, and you and Morey kept ushering him back and forth to like the production room where Morey like had the cards dealt for their Chinese game they were playing, and like, it's funny because you know, on the surface, Doyle would always be like all the tournaments are so tiresome, all this sort of stuff. But then like instead of like resting on a fifteen twenty minute break, he would come into the production area and play two hundred dollar point Chinese poker against Morey because like that's what he wanted to do. That's how he wanted to like stay awake and like for the tournament and also gamble. So it was just it was funny in that moment certainly something that you know, we were kind of like it was Meu and Remco were like sitting there and like Doyle would like wheel on in and like more would like have the cards dealt out. They'd play a few hands at Chinese, more would mark down where I think were his losses at the time of Doyle would usher back in there and play the tournament. So that was like my fun lasting memory of him. And there's a whole ton of stuff, a lot of Doyle stories that are out there on social media that are really great. Also, in addition to the tenderest gold bracelets that I mentioned, one world Poker Tour title, three foul tables, eight cases, um just under two point one million in earns there the event that he won. He won the WPT Legends of Poker way back in two thousand and four for just under one point two million of dollars. He was a fixture in season nine of High Stakes Poker. That y yeah, So um, that's on Poker Go. You guys can go back and watch that. Um, there's a lot of highlights and clips on the Pokego YouTube channel as well. As I said to lead off the show, Doyle will be Shirley. Shirley, Shirley missed. I'm assuming you know, there's gonna be a lot of tribute stuff that's coming for the World Series of Poker, and stuff's gonna kind of, I guess trickle out in due time as we go. You know, obviously Doyle was so ingrained in that that sp history. That's you know, the timing, albeit very unfortunate of his passing, you know, does lead into the biggest tournament series of the year that he played such a huge, huge pivotal role in helping to create to grow all that sort of stuff. So, um, there's going to be a lot of celebration in ceremony for douele brunts and at the twenty twenty three WSPN we'll, you know, we'll see how that all plays out over time. Um, but yeah, it's a sad time. I honestly thought he was never gonna go. I just thought, you know, Doors is gonna look till he's one hundred and eighty. That's just how it is. He might not win another bracelet ever again, but he'll just be here forever. The education of a poker players never complete until he dies. And I've learned things. Every day that I play, I've learned something new and so consequently there's nothing that's as important to a poker players experience. Event number one, the twenty five K gig Super Millions Live was won by Santos Servana Servarna. I think I got that correct. Seven hundred K for the win there. Event number two twenty K Noeleman hold him seven handed, Jason Kuhne. We all know that name, of course. Jason Kuhne won six hundred and sixty three thousand dollars for what was his sixth Triton title, the most all time. He is mister Triton as far as I'm concerned. Event number three thirty K Noeleman hold him mystery bounty and then what they do is fifteen K for the prize school fifteen K for the mystery bounty was won by Byao Ding five hundred and forty thousand, five hundred dollars for that win. Event number five, again Triton skips, even number four, even number five, forty k Nolan hold him eight handed, guguar Azoo one, well he chopped, Okay, he chopped with Robert high our Zoo one one point zero five million. Hydron actually took more money one point zero five seven. Um, so those two seven figures played it out. They played that one out. I have no idea. Um, I didn't. I didn't tune in for that one. I tuned in for a lot of this stuff. Um, Ali Jan, I'll that was horrible. Alia Najade on the call, Henry Kilbain, Randy Lou we're all doing some of the commentary. Justin Bottom I think, hopped in the booth, Sam Greenwood, you know, some others throughout. David Yan Um. It's really great commentary. It's really good fun stuff to watch. I love the timing of this that it happened kind of right before the World Series of Poker, so I could just turn it on every single day and watch. I know, Tim and I've talked about it before. Triton does all these kind of weird out of the box buying buyings, but we kind of like it. So that was a vent number eight. Michael Soizer one point seven three five. I think Michael Soysa doesn't he list online on poker stake a lot he has before. Yeah, I hope some people had some some money invested there because he took home the lion's share of the event eight prize fool one point seven three five million dollars. Now, this one, event number nine, this was the one that we've highlighted before, two hundred thousand dollars buying lux and invitational. So this is the one where you could only enter as a VIP and then the VIPs could in turn and send an invitation out to pros Ramin Hajiev wins it all four point one two to million dollars in his pocket. Absolutely amazing score. They're a really unique format with the you know kind of the pairings amongst us, fun to watch, fun to follow along, and good for mister Hajiev. Event number ten a guy who's been winning quite a bit this year, the twenty five KPLO Chris Brewer takes some two hundred and ninety two thousand dollars for his win. I'm gonna skip event number eleven for a second because that was the main event. Go to event number twelve, fifty thousand dollars Noelman Holdham Turbo won by Danny Tang five hundred and forty five thousand dollars. Not the first time we've seen success from Danny Tang, and the Triton Poker Series event certainly will not be the last. Now back to event number eleven, the one hundred thousand dollars buying main event. Jason Kuhne. We already mentioned his name once event he won event number two. Now he gets his seventh Triton title. He wins the one hundred thousand dollars main event two point six million dollars for the win. Triton or sorry Triton. Jason Kun tiered up afterwards because of his friend who passed last year during this series in Cyprus. Ivan Leoo. Jason Koon, you know, really really won this one with a heavy heart and was able to take home the two point six million dollars. I think he also moved into the lead for the Triton Series Player of the Year as well, past Stephen Chitwick, who Koon said, Stephen Chitwick is the best player in the world right now, so he's grateful to be able to do that. So yeah, a little bit of a verbal uh what spat verbal spat at the at the final table between Jason Koon and Dan Smith. M Dan Smith was in a decision at one point, he had pocket nines against Steve Dwyer's pocket nines and he was trying to think things through. Jason Kuhne was involved in a conversation with I believe Sean Winter, who was sitting right next to him. Dan asked for quiet. Kun sniped back at him, like, you know, you're kind of being ridiculous. You always talk when other people are in hands, and then you always ask for this stuff like Koon cited the fact that he talked to some VIPs at the series and they said it was just horrible to play with Dan Smith. So those two an Ada for it seemed like four or five minutes just going back and forth, back and forth. You know, some of the other players at the final table got involved put some words in as well. Shaan Winter, I couldn't tell if Shaun Winter was like joking or serious or both at different times. Shaan Winter is an absolute one of a kind character. It was his first trip to a Triton event for Shaun Winter. He had he had some success throughout. So you guys can watch that stuff on the Triton Poker YouTube channel and you can see the spat between Smith and Jason Kune. Ultimately, Jason Kune comes out on top of the whole thing and takes home two point six million dollars. As I said, takeaways, sir, you got me. Jason Koone's the best obviously, I mean, he he is, I mean, he's a crusher. Yeah, he's great. It's I mean, once it comes to like once you hit the twenty five K buying level and higher, like it's pretty much Jason Kuhne's world and everyone is living in it. It seems like, um, I wish he would play more stuff smaller. He doesn't need to. Well, I know he doesn't need to. It's probably not worth this time. I get all that, but like you still want them, you know, to play it. Like if he if he put in the volume that Daniel Legron you put in, who also doesn't need it, you know, but Daniel LEGRONI will show up to all the five K ten kpgt events that that we have at the studio. You know, Jason Kuhne probably doesn't show up to any of those unless they start hitting twenty five K buying or higher. But still performs extremely well throughout seven Triton titles. As I mentioned, I mean, he's just the guys, the guys an ask the killer out there for sure? Speaking of killers, this guy's a killer, right, yeah, it's not it's exciting. Jeremy Becker. I mean, listen full transparency. We recorded an interview with Jeremy Becker late last week. We're going to air later this week talking about all the stuff he's been winning at the win and then he goes and wins another tournament in between the time that I spoke with him and we're gonna have him on. He won what yesterday, sixty three entrant win nightly. He took home thirty nine hundred dollars wearing a PGT hat that I gave him when he came by the office, lucky hat, the lucky hat. He's got eight wins since March twenty fifth. He's still trying to work out the deal I guess with Daniel Nagran new and the steaking stuff. Well, we'll talk about all this stuff on the on the podcast. You guys will hear coming up this week, probably have another win by the time you actually have the interview. He might have two or three. I mean, I don't even know, but yeah, so it it's gonna be fun to talk to Jeremy. He's certainly getting hot at the right time leading into the World Series of Poker. So so we'll see. I asked him about the haters, because there's a lot of people out there like man, he's only win one hundred and daily tournaments in Vegas, who cares? I asked him about that. So again, you would to win daily. I'd love to win a sitting go every week, but I'm not doing that, so you know, um, but yeah, I mean, I feel like that's kind of all we have today, slow kind of newsweek. Obviously, it's an exciting newsweek because we're one week out from the World Series of Poker. Yeah, it's it's exciting to look ahead to the World Series of Poker. Um, it's a bit sad to look back of the doel Brunson news that happened last Sunday, as we talked about at the top of the episode. Um, but hopefully the World Series of Poker is more about a celebration of Doya's life and all of his accomplishments, achievements and everyone that he touched in our game. Um. I mean, it is the biggest and best tournament series in the world, um, tim and I will be the first to tell you that. So um Dolla's legacy will certainly live on throughout yep. Um. Other than that's I got nothing else. I don't think we got a bunch of double episodes this week. Yeah yeah, so we got no Sorry, we had High Stakes Poker tomorrow, Season ten, episode sixteen.
