Years later, 11 00:01:17.480 --> 00:01:22.599 a convicted murderer named Mark Reebe confesses to abducting and killing Pamela, but he 12 00:01:22.719 --> 00:01:27.200 later recounts this confession and no trace of her is ever found. I went, stop it stop, that's exciting. It involves a mother who decided to take her two children on 64 00:04:58.560 --> 00:05:01.680 a vacation to Florida, but vanished from a motel parking lot shortly after she 65 00:05:01.800 --> 00:05:06.879 arrived, presumably after being abducted by an unidentified male. The case was once 66 00:05:06.920 --> 00:05:12.399 featured on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries, and in recent years has received coverage 67 00:05:12.439 --> 00:05:16.240 on the British true crime series Serial Killers with Pierce Morgan, which featured an 68 00:05:16.279 --> 00:05:21.000 interview with a convicted murderer named Mark Reebe, who once confessed to being responsible 69 00:05:21.000 --> 00:05:27.199 for Pamela's disappearance. Even though Reebe has only officially been linked to one murder, 70 00:05:27.279 --> 00:05:30.319 there has been speculation that he is a serial killer who may have been 71 00:05:30.360 --> 00:05:33.639 responsible for the deaths of at least a dozen women, including Pamela. This 72 00:05:33.759 --> 00:05:39.399 episode will also contain research from the website Lost and Found blogs dot com, 73 00:05:39.519 --> 00:05:44.040 which is run by my friend and fellow Unsolved Mysteries van Heather Grautman, who 74 00:05:44.040 --> 00:05:47.279 goes under the name Crystal Dawn and has published a pair of extensive articles about 75 00:05:47.319 --> 00:05:51.120 this case. Even though there have been some compelling leads in the investigation, 76 00:05:51.360 --> 00:05:56.040 Pamela is still a missing person, which is why we'll be exploring this story 77 00:05:56.040 --> 00:06:00.040 together. Okay, so Robin, in this case, she's with her children 78 00:06:00.120 --> 00:06:03.759 right when she pulls up to this hotel, and then the children are found 79 00:06:03.759 --> 00:06:08.079 in the car later. Yet they literally slept through the whole thing. They 80 00:06:08.120 --> 00:06:10.839 just woke up and their mother was missing, and they to this day they 81 00:06:10.879 --> 00:06:15.199 have no idea what happened. Okay, I don't care what's going on. 82 00:06:15.319 --> 00:06:18.759 It takes a heck of a lot for a mother to choose to leave her 83 00:06:18.879 --> 00:06:24.759 children. I just it is devastating to think that those babies were in the 84 00:06:24.800 --> 00:06:29.079 back of that car and she gets out for who knows what, and doesn't 85 00:06:29.120 --> 00:06:31.480 return. That is the most heartbreaking part of all of this is those kids 86 00:06:31.839 --> 00:06:36.240 had no idea. She likely had no idea she wasn't coming back to jump 87 00:06:36.319 --> 00:06:40.879 right back in the car with them. And now we have no answers. 88 00:06:40.879 --> 00:06:43.560 Those kids have no answers as to what happened to their mom. This case 89 00:06:44.360 --> 00:06:48.319 is already going to be devastating to rehear and listen to the details of it. 90 00:06:49.639 --> 00:06:55.279 Our story begins in nineteen ninety two, and our central figure is thirty 91 00:06:55.319 --> 00:06:59.319 six year old Pamela June Ray, who lives in Phila Rica, Georgia, 92 00:06:59.480 --> 00:07:01.879 with her husband, been Michael Ray, and their two children, twelve year 93 00:07:01.920 --> 00:07:06.079 old Shane and five year old Brandy. Since school is going to be starting 94 00:07:06.120 --> 00:07:11.680 soon, Pamela wants to take her kids on one last vacation to visit Panama 95 00:07:11.680 --> 00:07:15.079 City Beach, Florida, but since Michael is busy working, he'll be unable 96 00:07:15.120 --> 00:07:19.279 to come along with them. On August eleven, Pamela loaded her son and 97 00:07:19.360 --> 00:07:24.959 daughter into her blue nineteen ninety one Plymouth Sun Dance and went to visit her 98 00:07:24.959 --> 00:07:29.720 brother in the town of Luthersville. After visiting his house at around ten thirty 99 00:07:29.759 --> 00:07:33.439 pm, Pamela began her two hundred and fifty mile drive to Panama City Beach 100 00:07:33.920 --> 00:07:39.800 and would arrive during the early morning hours of August twelfth. The previous evening, 101 00:07:39.879 --> 00:07:44.199 Pamela had phoned the manager of the Wilheight Motel on Front Beach Road to 102 00:07:44.319 --> 00:07:47.560 inquire about making a reservation and was told that a room would be available at 103 00:07:47.680 --> 00:07:53.079 nine or ten AM. When she arrived, Pamela parked her car in front 104 00:07:53.120 --> 00:07:57.000 of the motel's office while Shane and Brandy remained sleeping in the back seat, 105 00:07:57.839 --> 00:08:03.279 but shortly thereafter she would vanish without a trace. At around eight thirty am, 106 00:08:03.560 --> 00:08:07.519 one of the motel's employees noticed that the two children were sleeping unattended inside 107 00:08:07.560 --> 00:08:13.680 the Plymouth Sun Dance and became concerned enough to contact the Panama City Beach Police 108 00:08:13.720 --> 00:08:18.680 Department. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered that the sundance was 109 00:08:18.720 --> 00:08:20.680 locked, so they knocked on the window to wake up Shane and Brandy, 110 00:08:22.040 --> 00:08:24.720 who told him that they had no idea where their mother was. It turned 111 00:08:24.759 --> 00:08:30.000 out the paneless keys and her purse, which contained two hundred dollars in travelers 112 00:08:30.079 --> 00:08:33.559 checks, were still inside the car, and since she was known for being 113 00:08:33.559 --> 00:08:37.279 a very devoted mother who was protective of her children, it seemed very unlikely 114 00:08:37.320 --> 00:08:41.759 that she left them alone of her own accord. A missing person's report would 115 00:08:41.759 --> 00:08:46.519 be filed for Pamela, and after the rest of her family were informed about 116 00:08:46.519 --> 00:08:50.320 what was happening, they traveled down to Panama City Beach to pick up the 117 00:08:50.399 --> 00:08:54.440 children and participate in The search for her front beach road contained a number of 118 00:08:54.480 --> 00:09:00.279 beachfront motels, including the will Height, but even though every single room was 119 00:09:00.399 --> 00:09:05.080 checked, it failed to turn up any trace of Pamela. This is so 120 00:09:05.200 --> 00:09:09.039 bizarre because she is doing exactly what she's told everyone she's going to do. 121 00:09:09.519 --> 00:09:13.639 She sees her brother, She gets on this long overnight road trip. I can make it through the night and take a nap 124 00:09:18.720 --> 00:09:22.360 when I get to the hotel, and she does. She gets there about 125 00:09:22.360 --> 00:09:26.840 thirty minutes before the hotel employee says that her room's going to be ready, 126 00:09:26.919 --> 00:09:33.519 right or yeah, about thirty minutes before nine o'clock, And she's likely waiting 127 00:09:33.759 --> 00:09:37.039 for that permission to go check in and get the room key so she can 128 00:09:37.080 --> 00:09:39.799 take the kids in, she can rest, clean up, and they can 129 00:09:39.799 --> 00:09:45.440 start their little mini vacation. And her car's in the hotel parking lot right. 130 00:09:46.159 --> 00:09:48.840 Yes. One thing I wanted to correct is that she didn't arrive at 131 00:09:48.840 --> 00:09:52.399 eight thirty. That's when they noticed that the children were sleeping inside. So here a more details about the circumstances of how 160 00:11:52.000 --> 00:11:56.679 Pamela went missing. Investigators would hear from multiple witnesses who were called seeing Pamela 161 00:11:56.720 --> 00:12:00.919 sitting inside her plymous sun dance in front of the motel office around five am 162 00:12:01.039 --> 00:12:05.000 on the morning of August twelfth. However, the most interesting sighting would be 163 00:12:05.080 --> 00:12:09.080 from a patrol officer who was driving through the area at five twenty five and 164 00:12:09.159 --> 00:12:13.240 thought he saw Pamela standing outside her vehicle with an unidentified white male. After 165 00:12:13.279 --> 00:12:18.360 being placed under hypnosis, the officer recalled the white male as being around six 166 00:12:18.360 --> 00:12:22.159 feet tall and one hundred and fifty pounds, with light hair and light eyes, 167 00:12:22.320 --> 00:12:26.360 and wearing a shirt which had alternating dark and light colored horizontal stripes. 168 00:12:26.960 --> 00:12:30.799 He saw Pamela lock her car and followed the man towards the parking lot next 169 00:12:30.840 --> 00:12:35.039 to the motel's swimming pool area. A few minutes after the officer drove off, 170 00:12:35.320 --> 00:12:37.159 some of the guests at the motel recalled hearing the sounds of a woman 171 00:12:37.279 --> 00:12:41.759 screaming out for help, but since the rooms there did not have phones, 172 00:12:41.799 --> 00:12:46.240 they were unable to call anyone for assistance. Unfortunately, the area would also 173 00:12:46.279 --> 00:12:48.799 be hit with a heavy rainfall during his time period, which may have washed 174 00:12:48.840 --> 00:12:54.799 away potential evidence prior to Pamela's arrival at the Prior to Pamela's arrival at the 175 00:12:54.799 --> 00:12:58.720 motel, other witnesses had also recalled seeing a man urinating in public who matched 176 00:12:58.759 --> 00:13:05.480 the description of the unidentified male. Okay, do we know if Pamela smoked 177 00:13:05.559 --> 00:13:09.039 or anything like could she have been leaning up against the car when she arrived 178 00:13:09.080 --> 00:13:11.480 and having a cigarette and someone walked up to talk to her, or maybe 179 00:13:11.480 --> 00:13:15.759 she was trying to snag a cigarette from somebody walking by and that sparks a 180 00:13:15.759 --> 00:13:20.279 conversation, or like, what do we know about why she might have been 181 00:13:20.320 --> 00:13:24.320 outside the car. I'm just checking the Charlie Project profile page for it doesn't 182 00:13:24.320 --> 00:13:28.600 say anything about cigarettes or her being a smoker, so I'm not entirely sure 183 00:13:28.639 --> 00:13:33.159 about that. But one theory which has been pushed forward is that she might 184 00:13:33.200 --> 00:13:37.600 have thought that this man was a motel manager or a motel employee who might 185 00:13:37.639 --> 00:13:39.840 have been saying, Hey, your room's ready earlier than expected, you can 186 00:13:39.840 --> 00:13:43.399 come in now, and was saying, like, accompany me to the office 187 00:13:43.480 --> 00:13:46.840 or something. But of course he was just like a predator who took advantage 188 00:13:46.840 --> 00:13:50.720 of the situation and then abducted her from the scene. It's like a bold 189 00:13:50.840 --> 00:13:56.519 predator who would do that with two sleeping children in the car exactly. And 190 00:13:56.519 --> 00:13:58.720 it's just pretty much like pure chance, because you're not going to be expecting 191 00:13:58.720 --> 00:14:03.559 to be hanging outside a motel at five twenty five am and just see a 192 00:14:03.600 --> 00:14:07.919 woman arriving without her husband, just being alone with two kids, and know 193 00:14:07.000 --> 00:14:11.320 that, hey, I can abduct her. So it just seems like Pamela 194 00:14:11.399 --> 00:14:13.440 was just in the wrong place, the wrong time and just found this very 195 00:14:13.519 --> 00:14:18.600 bold predator who just happened to be hanging around the area during the early morning 196 00:14:18.639 --> 00:14:24.639 hours. One month after Pamela went missing, police received a promising lead when 197 00:14:24.639 --> 00:14:28.759 a twenty nine year old Panama City resident named Andrew Paul Henry was arrested for 198 00:14:28.840 --> 00:14:35.080 kidnapping and rape. On March fourth, a male suspect abducted a woman outside 199 00:14:35.080 --> 00:14:39.440 a convenience store in the town of Chipley, located over fifty miles away. 200 00:14:39.200 --> 00:14:43.679 He proceeded to hit her on the head with a bottle and choke her into 201 00:14:43.759 --> 00:14:48.799 unconsciousness, before taking her into a wooded area and raping her. Even though 202 00:14:48.799 --> 00:14:52.759 the perpetrator threatened to kill the woman, she managed to convince him to let 203 00:14:52.759 --> 00:14:56.720 her go, and she subsequently reported the crime to police. When Henry was 204 00:14:56.799 --> 00:15:01.679 arrested six months later, the vic and picked him out of a photo lineup, 205 00:15:01.120 --> 00:15:05.879 But the problem is that there were some inconsistencies between Henry and the original 206 00:15:05.919 --> 00:15:11.879 description that she provided of her attacker. For instance, she mentioned him sporting 207 00:15:11.919 --> 00:15:15.919 a tattoo in a spot where Henry did not have one, and described the 208 00:15:15.960 --> 00:15:20.600 attacker as driving a different brand of car than the one Henry drove. As 209 00:15:20.600 --> 00:15:24.919 a result of these inconsistencies, the kidnapping and rape charges against Henry were dropped. 210 00:15:26.600 --> 00:15:30.120 Henry did seem to match the description of the man seen with Pamela, 211 00:15:30.600 --> 00:15:33.639 and there were also reports that he'd been sitting in a folding chair outside the 212 00:15:33.639 --> 00:15:39.159 Wilheighte Motel in the hours prior to Pamela's disappearance. This guy in the chair 213 00:15:39.240 --> 00:15:43.120 was also described as wearing a striped shirt, the same type of shirt the 214 00:15:43.159 --> 00:15:48.799 patrol officer had seen on the man with Pamela. Police used cadaver dogs to 215 00:15:48.799 --> 00:15:52.360 search the wooded area where the first female victim's attack took place, but they 216 00:15:52.399 --> 00:15:58.120 never found evidence linking Henry to Pamela's case, and he has since passed away. 217 00:15:58.480 --> 00:16:03.480 So they were thinking that this is somebody who has his own mo in 218 00:16:03.559 --> 00:16:06.440 safe space where he's going to take his victims, right, So that's why 219 00:16:06.519 --> 00:16:10.159 they go back and they're looking at that place where the first female victims attack 220 00:16:10.200 --> 00:16:14.879 took place, but they find nothing. It is very interesting that while he 221 00:16:14.960 --> 00:16:21.759 matches the description of the man in Pamela's case, this first victim actually isn't 222 00:16:21.759 --> 00:16:26.399 necessarily describing him to a tee. The tattoos particularly concerning, because that's something 223 00:16:26.399 --> 00:16:33.120 that you can't eliminate quickly or easily. She describes a tattoo, which is 224 00:16:33.159 --> 00:16:36.919 something that was burned into her mind, something she wanted to remember. And 225 00:16:36.960 --> 00:16:41.039 then here is Henry and he doesn't have that tattoo. You could easily explain 226 00:16:41.080 --> 00:16:45.080 the car away right, like how he borrowed somebody's car, or he even 227 00:16:45.080 --> 00:16:49.200 stole a car when he abducted this other victim. But the tattoos concerning Now, 228 00:16:49.480 --> 00:16:55.559 clearly Henry seems to have some problems. To what extent do you believe 229 00:16:56.080 --> 00:17:00.320 he really was someone of interest in this case?
