It makes no 10 00:00:48.479 --> 00:00:52.920 sense unless you know what's going on. If I were to pull out a 11 00:00:52.960 --> 00:00:56.200 novel, a mystery novel, and I were to turn two thirds through the 12 00:00:56.240 --> 00:00:59.560 novel and just start reading a section to you, it may be a really 13 00:00:59.640 --> 00:01:03.840 terrific novel, but if I'm reading two thirds through it, it would not 14 00:01:03.920 --> 00:01:07.480 make sense to you at all. They know that Jesus Christ died on the cross, 16 00:01:14.480 --> 00:01:18.000 was buried in a tomb for three days, and on Easter Sunday he 17 00:01:18.120 --> 00:01:22.319 rose again, and that's basically all they know. So they don't know the 18 00:01:22.319 --> 00:01:25.439 rest of the story. They don't know the backstory, they don't know the 19 00:01:25.480 --> 00:01:29.239 context, they don't know the background, and as a result, it doesn't 20 00:01:29.280 --> 00:01:33.959 make sense. In other words, so what why did God send Jesus to 21 00:01:34.000 --> 00:01:38.879 Earth? Why did Jesus have to die? What did he die for? 22 00:01:38.719 --> 00:01:42.159 What's the significance of him coming back to life? And really does it have 23 00:01:42.319 --> 00:01:49.200 any possible relationship to my life today? You've got to know the storyline in 24 00:01:49.280 --> 00:01:57.040 this mystery. Actually, Easter is act three in a five act mystery. 25 00:01:57.280 --> 00:02:01.640 It actually occurs in the Bible story through the Bible. And if you don't 26 00:02:01.680 --> 00:02:08.159 know the first two thirds and you don't know basically the ending, then Jesus' 27 00:02:08.159 --> 00:02:14.120 death and resurrection doesn't make that much sense. I want to give you the bird's eye view. 29 00:02:17.840 --> 00:02:22.599 I want to give you the panorama of history like maybe you've never seen it 30 00:02:22.639 --> 00:02:27.800 before, from the beginning of the universe to the end of time, and 31 00:02:27.960 --> 00:02:35.120 show you all five acts in God's plan for the universe and God's plan for 32 00:02:35.199 --> 00:02:40.039 you we'll call this the mystery of history. Well, let me tell you what the Bible 35 00:02:53.479 --> 00:03:00.360 says in Ephesians chapter three. In the Bible, Paul has talked, and 36 00:03:00.360 --> 00:03:06.240 he says, this God gave me the responsibility of bringing his grace to you, 37 00:03:07.280 --> 00:03:14.240 and he let me understand the mystery of his plan through a revelation and 38 00:03:14.719 --> 00:03:21.240 the mystery about Christ. Now, in past generations, this mystery was not 39 00:03:21.400 --> 00:03:29.240 known by people. But now God's spirit has revealed his plan through his apostles 40 00:03:29.240 --> 00:03:34.759 and prophets. And this mystery is that the good News, that's the Gospel. 41 00:03:35.919 --> 00:03:39.800 Through the good News, people who are not Jews, Gentiles that's us, 42 00:03:40.919 --> 00:03:47.280 may now share with the Jews in God's blessing. They belong in the 43 00:03:47.319 --> 00:03:53.800 same family, the same body, and share the same promise that God made 44 00:03:53.039 --> 00:04:00.120 in Christ Jesus. Now, the mystery of history is played out from beginning 45 00:04:00.159 --> 00:04:04.319 of time to the end of time in five acts, and here they are. 46 00:04:04.919 --> 00:04:09.280 Act one in the mystery of history goes back to the very beginning. 47 00:04:09.360 --> 00:04:14.800 It starts this way, God made it all that's act one. The very first verse of the Bible starts this way in the 49 00:04:18.000 --> 00:04:21.839 beginning, which is a good place to start, in the beginning God, 50 00:04:21.879 --> 00:04:27.279 which is a good person to start with. In the beginning, God created 51 00:04:27.680 --> 00:04:30.800 the heavens and the earth. God made the universe. Now most of us 52 00:04:30.839 --> 00:04:35.439 don't have a problem with that, But have you ever thought about this question? 53 00:04:35.600 --> 00:04:41.680 Why why did God go to all of the trouble to create a universe? 54 00:04:42.279 --> 00:04:47.240 Why did it even make a universe? The Bible says he did it 55 00:04:47.399 --> 00:04:53.720 for three reasons. Number one, he made it all to reveal his glory, 56 00:04:54.560 --> 00:04:58.800 in other words, to show us what He's really like. God's glory 57 00:04:58.959 --> 00:05:01.720 is his character, It's who he is. It is this nature. And 58 00:05:01.839 --> 00:05:09.519 God made the universe to demonstrate, to show, to reveal what God is 59 00:05:09.600 --> 00:05:12.959 really like. We know that God likes beauty and all of the colors and all 74 00:06:16.199 --> 00:06:20.480 of the beauty that we see in creation, in sunrises and sunsets. And the more we understand about nature and the universe, the 80 00:06:44.839 --> 00:06:48.839 more we better we understand what God is really like. Now, the effect of that sin, that 214 00:17:27.200 --> 00:17:33.400 disobedience, was catastrophic on the earth, and we have been bearing the brunt 215 00:17:33.480 --> 00:17:37.920 of that catastrophe now for thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of years, 216 00:17:38.880 --> 00:17:44.640 and that did three things to the Earth. First, it brought death onto 217 00:17:44.680 --> 00:17:48.240 the planet. It brought death onto the planet. The Bible says this sin 218 00:17:48.440 --> 00:17:53.440 came into the world because of what one man did. That's Adam's rebellion against 219 00:17:53.519 --> 00:18:00.920 God. And with sin came death, the virus of sin, and infected 220 00:18:00.960 --> 00:18:06.680 the entire world. It'd be like taking a little vial of Ebola virus and 221 00:18:06.839 --> 00:18:11.799 dropping it into the water system here in the Saddleback Valley. Nobody'd be drinking 222 00:18:11.839 --> 00:18:17.039 the water anymore because it would infect the entire system. And sin brought with 223 00:18:17.079 --> 00:18:21.759 it death. Why do you realize that before this happened, before Idam disobeyed 224 00:18:21.799 --> 00:18:25.519 God, there was no death on the planet. God said, it's perfect, 225 00:18:25.559 --> 00:18:27.079 it's environment. There's no reason for you to die, and need to 226 00:18:27.119 --> 00:18:32.000 take you to a perfect place called heaven because Earth is perfect, and so 227 00:18:32.160 --> 00:18:34.440 you can just enjoy it there, have fun, have kids.
