It's never gonna happen. It's never gonna happen. What you need is a fresh set 36 00:03:02.800 --> 00:03:09.199 of eyes. Because the professionals were wrong. The crowd was wrong. Why had they all gotten so discouraged from this one 41 00:03:28.639 --> 00:03:34.599 giant? The answer is they were listening to the wrong voice. For forty days, twice a day, morning and evening, the 44 00:03:46.159 --> 00:03:53.479 Philistine giant loudly berated di Israeli or Israelite Army. Well, it's no wonder 45 00:03:53.680 --> 00:03:55.479 they got discouraged. They're listening to this guy day after day after day after 46 00:03:55.560 --> 00:04:00.599 day. Question, who are you listening to? Who are you listening to? 47 00:04:00.639 --> 00:04:05.240 Who says it can't be done? Who is pooh poohing your dream, 48 00:04:05.560 --> 00:04:10.439 putting down your dream, saying it won't ever happen, forget it? Who 49 00:04:10.520 --> 00:04:15.080 is telling you that you're not the person to do it. You know, 50 00:04:15.120 --> 00:04:18.399 if you listen to negative people long enough, you know what happens. You 51 00:04:18.439 --> 00:04:26.079 get negative because it's highly contagious. And you know what, if you listen to negative, 54 00:04:35.120 --> 00:04:40.079 you know what, You're gonna become a negative, bitter person. Sometimes you just need a fresh voice. You need a 61 00:05:06.800 --> 00:05:10.920 kid from the village with fresh eyes. Go this guy's nothing. We can 62 00:05:11.000 --> 00:05:15.439 take him down. It's a slam dunk look. In the next verse, 63 00:05:15.639 --> 00:05:18.920 verses twenty three and twenty four, as David talked with his brothers on the 64 00:05:18.959 --> 00:05:26.560 front line, he saw Goliath start shouting his usual threats to Israel's army, 65 00:05:26.639 --> 00:05:30.399 and when the army heard Goliath, they all ran away in terror. They 66 00:05:30.399 --> 00:05:34.160 all ran away. Let me give you some advice. Don't hang out with 67 00:05:34.199 --> 00:05:41.279 fearful people. Don't hang out with fearful people, because if you do, 68 00:05:41.600 --> 00:05:44.879 you will become fearful. If you hang out with cowards, you become a 69 00:05:44.920 --> 00:05:47.480 coward. You hang out with bitter people, you become bitter. You hang 70 00:05:47.480 --> 00:05:51.360 out with angry people, you become angry. You hang out with negative people, 71 00:05:51.600 --> 00:05:58.399 you become negative. It's highly contagious. The first barrier to your dream 72 00:05:58.480 --> 00:06:01.480 is delay. Somebody's trying to hold you back. But the second barrier to 73 00:06:01.560 --> 00:06:05.399 your dream, the second dream buster, is discouragement, because everybody around you 74 00:06:05.480 --> 00:06:11.399 is telling you that life sucks and it can't be done and they're wrong. 75 00:06:12.120 --> 00:06:15.040 They're wrong. Now there's a third dream buster, and I call it the 76 00:06:15.120 --> 00:06:20.360 giant of disapproval. And David had to handle this one is he had to 77 00:06:20.519 --> 00:06:26.000 be willing to face the disapproval of people around him in order to go after 78 00:06:26.040 --> 00:06:29.600 his dream. And you will too. Now here's the problem. The reason 79 00:06:29.639 --> 00:06:34.160 why most people don't ever go after their dream is they are afraid of disapproval. 80 00:06:34.600 --> 00:06:41.439 They are afraid of rejection. In this case, David's own brother questioned 81 00:06:41.680 --> 00:06:47.839 his motives. David's own brother questioned his motives and disapproved of David even going 82 00:06:47.920 --> 00:06:54.199 after the giant. We want everybody to like us, I mean, we 83 00:06:54.279 --> 00:06:57.920 really do want we want everybody to approve of everything we do. But if 84 00:06:57.959 --> 00:07:01.879 you go after God's dream for your life, I'm guaranteeing you this, there 85 00:07:01.920 --> 00:07:09.319 will be naysayers, there will be critics, there will be miss understanding, 86 00:07:09.639 --> 00:07:13.240 there will be attacks, there will be people who are judging you for what 87 00:07:13.319 --> 00:07:19.839 you do because they don't get it. And that is the disapproval giant. 88 00:07:20.600 --> 00:07:27.160 In this case, David's own brother questions David's motivation, and he treats his 89 00:07:27.199 --> 00:07:31.519 younger brother with disdain and disgust, and he demeans him, and he disregards 90 00:07:31.560 --> 00:07:34.120 them, and he belittles him. In verse twenty eight and twenty nine, 91 00:07:34.199 --> 00:07:40.560 notice this conversation between the older brother and the younger brother and David's there on 92 00:07:40.600 --> 00:07:46.519 the front line, and he asks the soldiers, what's the reward for killing 93 00:07:46.560 --> 00:07:53.120 this philistine and ending this disgraceful abuse? What's the reward? Now? When 94 00:07:53.199 --> 00:07:58.959 David's older brother heard David and even ask this question, he burned with anger 95 00:07:59.360 --> 00:08:03.000 at David and he said, now, listen to this conversation and see if 96 00:08:03.000 --> 00:08:07.759 you can identify with it. David's older brother says, why are you here 97 00:08:07.879 --> 00:08:13.199 anyway? Why aren't you taking care of your scrawny little flock of sheep, 98 00:08:15.079 --> 00:08:20.560 You cocky little brat. I know how conceited you are. And David, 99 00:08:20.600 --> 00:08:22.319 the younger brother, goes, now, what have I done? Can I 100 00:08:22.360 --> 00:08:26.360 even ask a question? Do any of you vaguely relate to this conversation? 101 00:08:28.839 --> 00:08:35.399 Yeah, it's called sibling rivalry, and it's happened in every single family because 102 00:08:35.440 --> 00:08:41.000 the older brother and the younger brother, the people closest to you can't see 103 00:08:41.279 --> 00:08:46.440 what you see. They can't imagine you accomplishing something that they've never imagined themselves. 104 00:08:46.720 --> 00:08:50.639 They think they know who you are, but they don't know you like 105 00:08:50.759 --> 00:08:56.320 God knows you, and so they come out with this demeaning, demoralizing disapproval. 106 00:08:56.840 --> 00:09:01.759 You hear the family dynamics going on here. But the Bible tells us very clearly that 116 00:09:48.639 --> 00:09:52.200 after Jesus was born, later on, Joseph and Mary had many kids. 117 00:09:52.320 --> 00:09:56.120 In fact, we were given their names in the Bible. And when I went to seminary in Texas, 221 00:18:26.319 --> 00:18:32.440 while I was there, God gave me a dream of moving to southern California, 222 00:18:32.480 --> 00:18:34.599 to a city I'd never been in, and to start at church with 223 00:18:34.640 --> 00:18:38.279 no money, no members, no building, and no support. And I'd 224 00:18:38.319 --> 00:18:44.720 never been a senior pastor. And so I called up an expert on starting 225 00:18:44.839 --> 00:18:48.119 churches in Texas. His name was Jeane, and I called him up and 226 00:18:48.160 --> 00:18:52.400 I said, Hey, I'm thinking about graduating, going to southern California's starting 227 00:18:52.400 --> 00:18:56.880 at church with no money, no members, no building, no support, 228 00:18:56.200 --> 00:19:03.119 and I've never been a senior pastor. What do you think? Hmm. Twenty years later he called me back. He said 232 00:19:22.119 --> 00:19:26.440 that was the dumbest advice I ever gave in my life.
