Exodus chapter three, 11 00:01:07.840 --> 00:01:11.400 I want to talk to you a little bit about the call of leadership, 12 00:01:11.560 --> 00:01:17.879 the calling of leadership on our lives, on every single person. And 13 00:01:18.159 --> 00:01:22.719 we'll just start with a little bit of stuff out of Moses and dive into 14 00:01:22.760 --> 00:01:27.560 this Exodus three. I'm going to start at verse seven, but before we 15 00:01:27.560 --> 00:01:32.480 get to verse seven, what's happening is and some of you know the story, 16 00:01:33.000 --> 00:01:38.400 So Moses led the people of God, the Jewish people. He led 17 00:01:38.439 --> 00:01:44.079 them out of captivity, led them out of bondage in Egypt. Maybe you 18 00:01:44.120 --> 00:01:48.319 know that story, but for the sake of those who were newer to the 19 00:01:48.400 --> 00:01:53.560 faith, Moses was that leader that led the people out of bondage. They 20 00:01:53.560 --> 00:02:00.319 had been in Egypt for four hundred and thirty years, and so God's getting 21 00:02:00.400 --> 00:02:07.000 ready to do something. The cry of these people in slavery is coming up 22 00:02:07.039 --> 00:02:12.960 before the Lord. And what happens right before verse seven, the first part 23 00:02:12.960 --> 00:02:19.240 of the chapter is that God shows up in a burning bush. So Moses 24 00:02:19.520 --> 00:02:24.560 is I wouldn't say he's really hiding from God, but he's hiding from Egypt 25 00:02:25.280 --> 00:02:36.400 because forty years previously he was very passionate about the Israeli people, the Jewish 26 00:02:36.479 --> 00:02:43.800 people, and he saw them being abused, and so he stood up on 27 00:02:43.919 --> 00:02:50.759 behalf of a fellow Hebrew and took the life of an Egyptian. So from 28 00:02:50.800 --> 00:02:54.039 that moment on, the Pharaoh wanted to take his life. So he escapes. 29 00:02:54.800 --> 00:02:59.240 He runs out to what we know in the Bible as Midian. He's 30 00:02:59.240 --> 00:03:01.479 out in the middle of this, you know, kind of this area called 31 00:03:01.520 --> 00:03:07.479 Midian. He gets out there, he finds his wife, and therefore he 32 00:03:07.560 --> 00:03:12.479 found his wife's family. The father in law we're told about quite a bit. 33 00:03:12.599 --> 00:03:15.240 His name is Jethro. And so he gets out there, and it's 34 00:03:15.280 --> 00:03:23.360 while he's there for forty years hiding from Egypt that God finds him, right 35 00:03:23.879 --> 00:03:25.719 and so, but we know he's out there. He's out there. And so it's in that setting that this bush 42 00:04:03.360 --> 00:04:06.919 catches on fire, and he's like, and he sees the bush. The 43 00:04:06.960 --> 00:04:11.159 bush is on fire, but the bush isn't consumed, and so he, 44 00:04:11.479 --> 00:04:14.520 you know, heads over to take a look at this bush. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, 49 00:04:30.920 --> 00:04:35.199 and I'm concerned about their suffering. So I've come down to rescue them from 50 00:04:35.199 --> 00:04:39.040 the hand of the Egyptians, to bring them up out of the land, 51 00:04:40.199 --> 00:04:45.879 out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with 52 00:04:45.959 --> 00:04:50.160 milk and honey. The home of the Canaanites, the hit Heites, the 53 00:04:50.199 --> 00:04:55.240 Amorites, the Parasites, the high Bites, and the Debucyites. And these 54 00:04:55.279 --> 00:04:58.800 are a bunch of like bad folks, right, and so God's going to 55 00:04:58.879 --> 00:05:02.000 give that land to them. But part of the thing that we don't realize, 56 00:05:02.040 --> 00:05:04.639 and you know, just thinking about Israel for a moment, is that 57 00:05:04.680 --> 00:05:10.959 this is also the land that Abraham saw when he lifted up his eyes and 58 00:05:11.000 --> 00:05:15.600 God made him the promise of land. And so Abraham hasn't possessed the land 59 00:05:15.639 --> 00:05:20.319 yet. Now there's bad folks living in the land, idolaters, people that 60 00:05:20.399 --> 00:05:25.879 sacrifice their children to the demonic realm. But this is the land that was 61 00:05:25.920 --> 00:05:31.319 promised to Abraham four hundred and thirty years previously, or even longer than four 62 00:05:31.399 --> 00:05:35.279 hundred thirty years, because it was four hundred and thirty years that Jacob went 63 00:05:35.319 --> 00:05:41.360 down to Egypt. It was even before that that the land was promised to 64 00:05:41.519 --> 00:05:45.319 Abraham. And so he says, I'm going to give them that land. 65 00:05:45.759 --> 00:05:48.360 And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen 66 00:05:48.519 --> 00:05:54.959 the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. Now this is the way 69 00:06:05.800 --> 00:06:12.240 leadership works. God gets stirred up about something.
