Before we get deep into daisy story here, I had never 81 00:05:55.920 --> 00:05:59.319 heard of the Shushwap people, so I did a little research and I found 82 00:05:59.319 --> 00:06:03.160 that they have a rich history with tales of giants in that area, and 83 00:06:03.199 --> 00:06:06.160 I wanted to share that with you really quickly before we go any further. 84 00:06:08.000 --> 00:06:12.800 In the northern region of Stony and Kuteney Territory, stretching from Jasper National Park 85 00:06:12.839 --> 00:06:16.079 to the McGregor River, lies the ancestral land of two distinct First nations. 86 00:06:16.519 --> 00:06:20.360 One of these nations, located in the heart of the Majestic Mountains near Jasper 87 00:06:20.439 --> 00:06:26.000 National Park, is home to the Osni Watchiwinnawaki, also known as the Rocky 88 00:06:26.040 --> 00:06:30.319 Mountain People. This tribe is a unique blend of Iroquois, Cree, and 89 00:06:30.399 --> 00:06:34.759 Lake Nipissing Ajibwi people who were employed by the Hudson's Bay Company. Unfortunately, 90 00:06:34.879 --> 00:06:41.000 despite their rich heritage, they do not possess Indian status in Canada. The 91 00:06:41.079 --> 00:06:45.600 other nation which surrounds and overlaps with the territory of the Rocky Mountain People is 92 00:06:45.639 --> 00:06:48.959 the vast land of the Shoe Swap, an Interior Salish nation. The shoe 93 00:06:49.000 --> 00:06:55.720 SWAP's ancestral hunting grounds extend westward into the Cariboo Country of British Columbia.
