But a few years later, roughly ten years later, the French 62 00:05:46.199 --> 00:05:51.319 had theirs, and I think there's some confusion. Sometimes people think that maybe 63 00:05:51.319 --> 00:05:57.360 this was one and the same type of revolution, and in many ways it 64 00:05:57.560 --> 00:06:02.480 was borne by revolutionary thinkers, enlightened men at the time, ideas of liberty. 65 00:06:03.160 --> 00:06:06.800 Jefferson, for example, one of my favorite Founding fathers, adored the 66 00:06:06.879 --> 00:06:12.040 French and he adored the revolution in France until he saw it getting really bloodthirsty, 67 00:06:12.079 --> 00:06:15.319 which is what happens when a revolution isn't tethered to something, which is 68 00:06:15.360 --> 00:06:17.959 the point I'm trying to get to. So bear with me. Remember two 69 00:06:17.959 --> 00:06:25.199 revolutions only a few years apart, but very very different styles of revolution. 70 00:06:26.000 --> 00:06:30.199 And it has something to do with today if you'll just think through it. 71 00:06:30.279 --> 00:06:36.000 Because the American Revolution was rooted in large part in religious temperance. Think about 72 00:06:36.000 --> 00:06:44.079 it. The Americans were very religious in the orientation the revolution took place with 73 00:06:44.319 --> 00:06:51.120 ideas of God being everywhere. Even in the Declaration right right, Jefferson talked 74 00:06:51.120 --> 00:06:57.480 about God, Washington talked about God. All the Founding fathers invoked the name 75 00:06:57.720 --> 00:07:01.439 of God, asked for prayers from God. It was a God centric style 76 00:07:01.720 --> 00:07:06.199 of revolution. Put another way, it was pro God. Yes. Now, 77 00:07:06.240 --> 00:07:09.879 look I'm not here to preach. I'm here to point out history. 78 00:07:10.360 --> 00:07:14.120 You can argue about these things all day, about hypocrites and evil and how 79 00:07:14.120 --> 00:07:15.600 people are bad, and I get all that, we all have our problems, 80 00:07:15.600 --> 00:07:19.319 but you can't separate God from the American Revolution. In fact, it 81 00:07:19.360 --> 00:07:24.199 was the natural rights theory they founded the revolution upon. And that natural rights 82 00:07:24.199 --> 00:07:27.600 theory, just to bore you, and not to go too deep into it, 83 00:07:27.639 --> 00:07:30.920 boils down to one important concept, and that is your rights come from 84 00:07:31.000 --> 00:07:35.600 God, not government. And if you're given those rights at birth by God, 85 00:07:35.759 --> 00:07:42.360 not government, they are inalienable or unalienable. You've heard of the guillotine. You've heard of that, haven't 93 00:08:13.800 --> 00:08:18.800 you. Of course, a lot of good Christians lost their heads a lot 94 00:08:18.800 --> 00:08:22.160 of intellectuals lost their heads. A lot of people that didn't share the revolutionary 95 00:08:22.199 --> 00:08:28.439 further that some of these revolutionaries shared lost of their heads. It was a 96 00:08:28.480 --> 00:08:33.879 revolution rooted in rabid equality, but not God. It was anti God. 97 00:08:33.480 --> 00:08:37.720 They even there's a famous huge church in Notre Dame. I remember that this thing is a breathtakingly beautiful 99 00:08:41.639 --> 00:08:50.679 but at the time the revolutionaries renamed it Ground zero and they raised a little 100 00:08:50.679 --> 00:08:56.000 statue in there. The reason, the half naked goddess of reason, or 101 00:08:56.039 --> 00:08:58.320 so to speak, and that's who they're going to worship, was reason. 102 00:08:58.600 --> 00:09:01.840 Remember, they pushed God out of the public sphere. And there was a lot of blood.
