Just doesn't seem fair. I'm a hard worker, I do my 15 00:01:08.519 --> 00:01:12.920 work well and I never cause any problems. I feel like I should be 16 00:01:12.959 --> 00:01:19.640 rewarded for my long tenure and for not moving to another business. What's wrong? 17 00:01:21.599 --> 00:01:25.359 Well, first, on the second one, whoever wrote it, I'm 18 00:01:25.400 --> 00:01:30.400 sorry for your frustration, but part of the problem maybe your misunderstanding of what 19 00:01:30.560 --> 00:01:37.719 it takes to get a promotion. Most people think that promotions are given as 20 00:01:37.760 --> 00:01:41.879 a reward for past service. I did good in my job, therefore I 21 00:01:41.959 --> 00:01:46.400 get promoted. That's simply isn't true, friends, and you need to eliminate 22 00:01:46.439 --> 00:01:51.400 that myth from your mind. That's not why people get promotions. People don't 23 00:01:51.400 --> 00:01:57.560 get promoted for past performance. They get promoted on the promise of future performance 24 00:01:59.079 --> 00:02:02.959 that they lax lead, do better, accomplish more, be more beneficial to 25 00:02:04.000 --> 00:02:07.479 the company in the future. It's not a reward for the past. To get a promotion in a business is this. Promotions aren't given 32 00:02:30.800 --> 00:02:36.960 to reward past performance. They aren't. They're given as a promise for future 33 00:02:37.120 --> 00:02:43.319 performance. Number two. If you are more valuable where you are, in 34 00:02:43.360 --> 00:02:45.719 the job you're in right now, You're not going to get a promotion. 35 00:02:46.680 --> 00:02:51.159 Now, listen to me, very clearly, irreplaceable people don't get promoted. 36 00:02:52.240 --> 00:02:55.639 Does that make sense, because if you're doing such an incredible job at what 37 00:02:55.680 --> 00:03:01.599 you're doing, nobody wants to move you because you are you have made yourself 38 00:03:01.960 --> 00:03:07.039 so irreplaceable. They aren't thinking about your past. These are the six most in demand traits that employers look for when 99 00:08:03.720 --> 00:08:07.360 they're looking for somebody to say, let's give that person a promotion. How 100 00:08:07.399 --> 00:08:13.120 do I know this because they're covered in the greatest promotion story of all time. 101 00:08:15.240 --> 00:08:20.959 Genesis, chapter thirty seven to chapter fifty is all about one guy and 102 00:08:20.040 --> 00:08:28.360 his name is Joseph. Joseph is the most amazing story of promotion ever told. 103 00:08:28.560 --> 00:08:31.360 Now, everybody loves a rags to richest story. We like these stories 104 00:08:31.440 --> 00:08:37.399 Ragstrich, the guy who is a nobody who becomes a somebody. Well, 105 00:08:37.399 --> 00:08:41.399 that's exactly what happened to Joseph. In fact, he went from being a 106 00:08:41.600 --> 00:08:46.120 slave to going to prison. First of from being kidnapped to being a slave, 107 00:08:46.279 --> 00:08:50.559 to going to prison to being the number wine guy in charge of the 108 00:08:50.600 --> 00:08:56.759 greatest country at its tentacle of power, the Egyptian Empire. He was second 109 00:08:56.799 --> 00:09:00.279 only to Pharaoh. Pharaoh put him in charge of the entire country and he 110 00:09:00.440 --> 00:09:07.200 wasn't even Egyptian. Now that's what I call a promotion. Going from prison 111 00:09:07.519 --> 00:09:13.360 to president in one lifetime, that's what I call a promotion. And the 112 00:09:13.399 --> 00:09:18.039 Bible tells us that these stories are in scripture to teach us by example, 113 00:09:18.519 --> 00:09:26.159 And we're going to look at six traits in Joseph's life that caused him to 114 00:09:26.159 --> 00:09:31.240 go from being in prison to becoming president, the greatest promotion in history, 115 00:09:31.960 --> 00:09:35.360 and put him in charge of the most powerful empire of its day. And 116 00:09:35.399 --> 00:09:39.720 he saved not only Egypt, but also Israel and a number of other countries. 117 00:09:41.240 --> 00:09:45.279 So get out your pencils and your pens. Now the background, there was a guy named Abraham, and Abraham 120 00:09:52.960 --> 00:09:58.279 had a son named Isaac, who is the promised child. And then Isaac 121 00:09:58.320 --> 00:10:03.600 had a son named named Jacob. These are the patriarchs of the nation of 122 00:10:03.679 --> 00:10:07.960 Israel. Now you've heard of the twelve tribes of Israel, they came from 123 00:10:07.960 --> 00:10:13.120 the twelve sons of Jacob. Jacob had twelve boys, and each of his 124 00:10:13.279 --> 00:10:20.919 boys founded one of the twelve tribes of Israel. Son number eleven was a 125 00:10:20.960 --> 00:10:28.159 guy named Joseph, and he was Daddy's favorite. And because he was Daddy's 126 00:10:28.159 --> 00:10:33.799 favorite, he got preferential treatment, and it made the other eleven brothers hate 127 00:10:33.039 --> 00:10:37.679 Joseph because he was daddy's boy, and he was the second to the youngest, 128 00:10:37.840 --> 00:10:41.639 but he was the most loved obviously. His dad even went out and 129 00:10:41.639 --> 00:10:46.279 bought him a very expensive multicolored coat one day and gave it, and Joseph 130 00:10:46.320 --> 00:10:50.200 was stupid enough to wear it around in front of his brothers and rub their 131 00:10:50.279 --> 00:10:54.200 noses in it. And they just hated him, and so they wanted to 132 00:10:54.200 --> 00:10:58.440 get rid of him, and one day they conspired to kill him. So some traveling 138 00:11:16.039 --> 00:11:24.759 Arabs come by in a caravan and they sell Joseph to the Arabs the Midianites, 139 00:11:24.320 --> 00:11:31.720 and then they fake his death and claimed that he was eaten by a 140 00:11:31.720 --> 00:11:39.440 bear. And the Midianites take Joseph on down into Egypt, where now he's 141 00:11:39.480 --> 00:11:46.840 not just a slave. He's auctioned off to a guy named Potiphar, who 142 00:11:46.960 --> 00:11:52.759 was a Egyptian official. But Joseph had some amazing qualities. We're going to 143 00:11:52.799 --> 00:11:58.639 look at them this weekend. And so wherever he went, God just blessed 144 00:11:58.720 --> 00:12:03.720 him and kept getting promoted. Even in the worst circumstances, he kept getting 145 00:12:03.720 --> 00:12:07.879 promoted. He had what was called favor on his life, and God would 146 00:12:07.879 --> 00:12:11.480 bless him even though everything was going wrong in his life. He would find 147 00:12:11.519 --> 00:12:16.639 blessing in that circumstance. And so he goes to work for Potiphar and he 148 00:12:16.720 --> 00:12:20.639 does such a good job. Potiphar just really begins to like this kid, 149 00:12:22.200 --> 00:12:26.120 and he really loves him, and actually he learns to trust him more and 150 00:12:26.159 --> 00:12:30.200 more and more, and pretty soon Potiphar puts him in charge of his entire 151 00:12:30.240 --> 00:12:37.879 house. And then missus Potiphar begins to notice that this guy is good looking. 152 00:12:39.200 --> 00:12:43.200 I mean, he's a spitting image of Rick Warren, you know, 153 00:12:43.679 --> 00:12:52.080 bulging biceps, you know, just an incredibly sexy man. He's Gongnam style, 154 00:12:52.200 --> 00:12:56.200 I mean, really, he's He's just incredibly sexy, and so she 155 00:12:56.399 --> 00:13:03.480 starts trying to seduce him. Joseph, being a man of integrity, refuses 156 00:13:03.600 --> 00:13:07.200 to do this, refuses to give in. We'll look at this in a 157 00:13:07.240 --> 00:13:13.399 minute. But Finally, once she spurned enough times, she christ foul and 158 00:13:13.480 --> 00:13:20.080 she claims that Joseph raped her. Actually Joseph did the exact opposite, but 159 00:13:20.120 --> 00:13:24.799 she claimed it. And so Potiphar very angry has this man who he had 160 00:13:24.840 --> 00:13:28.679 trusted thrown into prison. Now his life has gone from bad to worse. 161 00:13:28.960 --> 00:13:33.840 First being kidnapped, first being rejected by your family, second being kidnapped, 162 00:13:33.960 --> 00:13:39.799 third being taken hostage to a foreign country, fourth being sold into slavery, 163 00:13:39.000 --> 00:13:43.720 and fifth being false accused of raped and thrown in prison. Not a very 164 00:13:43.759 --> 00:13:46.240 good life, would you say. I mean, he's going where is God 165 00:13:46.279 --> 00:13:50.519 in all of this? God had Joseph exactly where he wanted him to. It 168 00:14:00.279 --> 00:14:05.840 just so happened that Pharaoh had two of his court cabinet, his cup bearer 169 00:14:05.919 --> 00:14:11.720 and his baker, had offended Pharaoh at some party, and so he had 170 00:14:11.799 --> 00:14:18.720 his baker and his and his cup bear thrown into prison along with Joseph. 171 00:14:18.799 --> 00:14:24.039 While they're in prison, they both have dreams and Joseph goes, well, 172 00:14:24.080 --> 00:14:26.360 you know what, I'm not a dream interpreter. But God can tell you 173 00:14:26.440 --> 00:14:28.159 the meaning of that, And so I'll pray and ask God. And so 174 00:14:28.200 --> 00:14:33.840 God tells Joseph the meaning of these two dreams. He shares it with the 175 00:14:33.840 --> 00:14:39.159 cup bearer and the baker, and the bottom line is that the cup bearer 176 00:14:39.159 --> 00:14:45.120 gets restored to power, the baker is killed. And Joseph says, by 177 00:14:45.159 --> 00:14:48.240 the way, when you get to back into the palace, you might put 178 00:14:48.279 --> 00:14:52.480 in a good word for me. Well, the guy promptly forgets Joseph, 179 00:14:52.120 --> 00:14:56.919 promptly forgets Joseph and doesn't even mean. So Joseph is languishing longer and longer 180 00:14:56.919 --> 00:15:03.919 and longer in prison. Then a little while later, Pharaoh has some dreams 181 00:15:03.960 --> 00:15:07.720 and they're very, very disturbing. When he has these dreams, he's gone, 182 00:15:07.720 --> 00:15:11.279 I wonder if anybody could tell me the meaning of these dreams. And 183 00:15:11.320 --> 00:15:15.279 all of a sudden, the cup bear goes, oh, I know a 184 00:15:15.320 --> 00:15:18.240 guy who could do that. I forgot to tell you about him. They have him go shaved, they 189 00:15:33.840 --> 00:15:37.279 have him take a bath, they have n't put on cling clothes. He 190 00:15:37.399 --> 00:15:43.080 comes in and he correctly interprets Pharaoh's dreams. He says, the two dreams 191 00:15:43.120 --> 00:15:46.759 you've had of this, You're gonna have a good economy for seven years. 192 00:15:46.600 --> 00:15:50.120 And he says, things are really gonna go great, and you're gonna have 193 00:15:50.159 --> 00:15:52.200 abundance. It's gonna be fruitfulness. But he said, after that, you're 194 00:15:52.240 --> 00:15:58.240 gonna have seven bad years where it's gonna be recession. It's gonna be famine, 195 00:15:58.279 --> 00:16:03.559 it's gonna be starvation. It's going to be really bad. And Pharaoh 196 00:16:03.559 --> 00:16:03.840 goes, well, what do you think got to do? He's now in charge. The only person above him 206 00:16:45.720 --> 00:16:49.559 is me. But every decision he makes, you were to follow. And 207 00:16:49.600 --> 00:16:53.720 so wherever Joseph goes, they all bow down to him. He's now the 208 00:16:53.879 --> 00:17:00.799 most powerful man on planet Earth. He's gone from prisoner to president. That's 209 00:17:00.879 --> 00:17:04.160 quite a promotion. What happened in all that time? How in the world 210 00:17:04.200 --> 00:17:08.880 did that happen? Well, from his life we learn the six traits that 211 00:17:10.000 --> 00:17:12.559 get you promoted, the six and these, by the way, today, 212 00:17:12.559 --> 00:17:18.680 even today, they still work that the six most in demand traits that employers 213 00:17:18.720 --> 00:17:22.799 look for when they're looking for somebody to hire. You have to show this character quality 220 00:17:51.920 --> 00:17:57.440 that Joseph develops and shows in his life. What is audacity. 223 00:18:06.640 --> 00:18:12.640 Audacity is the courage to think big. That is audacity, and it's the first trait we see in 226 00:18:29.000 --> 00:18:32.960 Joseph's life, the courage to think big, to show initiative, and to 227 00:18:33.000 --> 00:18:38.039 take risks for a dream while facing the possibility of failure. Now we have 228 00:18:38.079 --> 00:18:41.839 an example of this in Genesis, chapter thirty seven. The Bible starts off 229 00:18:41.880 --> 00:18:49.240 telling us this about Joseph. Joseph had a dream. Circle that Joseph had 230 00:18:49.240 --> 00:18:56.319 a dream. Now this dream is so big, so incredible, so audacious, 231 00:18:56.799 --> 00:19:02.160 nobody in the world believes him.
