Hello, and welcome to Game Spot After Dark, Episode one hundred, No two hundred and forty four. I think you ever know, and no one, No one knows everyone time I'm on this podcast because no one preps John Luke, Jean Luke. We starts off with like, this is so and so I don't know if this is the number. And then I'm always like do we actually care? No, yeah, what number? But then and then you know, Jean Luke has a very pragmatic like we should care. It's the milestones, Yeah, the big milestone ones. We're almost two fifty. But when I'm let's just rock. Yeah, that's rocking, that's what we're doing. Uh. John Luke is out. So I'm running the show today, so we can say whatever number it's, it's it's episode one. Yeah you gimbell. It has to be the full name. Okay, Yeah? Are you looking at a camera? I don't know. Oh, I thought were as? Who are listening? Stu is just looking at the cameras. I had no idea. It's been a while since I've been here, so I have to I have to adapt and change to what's been happening. Introduce yourself. Hi, I'm Stuart Kimball. I used to work here. Now I work for skill Up YouTube. Ralph he's a good guy. Show up right, show up? Oh yeah yeah? Sorry. The official name Ralph white Bread as I call it, Yeah, that is his name. That is what his name means because his last name, yeah yeah, and Italian means white, white bread, which is great because when I met Ralph and he and I discussed our Italian last names because mine means fortune teller yeah for souths Sayer in the Vena. But his he was just like, and I have white bread anyway, got Kurt here. We're happy to have you here, though, Stu, thank you very much. I'm happy to be here. You're here than I am. Okay, I'm I'm happy you're here than I am. That's that's what it is. I'm happier you both are here. Oh, thank you. Honest I don't know. I didn't think this week was going to happen because I messaged folks in the slack about being on this week and no one responded, and then I had to poke them a little and they were like, no, we don't feel like you were out of town. I was just gone, Yeah, you were gone. So I was like well, I don't know if Kurt would want to get back and be on this show, but here you are. You made it. It was because of me, a new chapter. If this has nothing to do with you, all right, whatever. I agreed to being on this podcast before I found out you are you were on, and now that I knew. Then, once I knew you were on, I was like, oh fuck, what have we done? That sounds about right now. I for those listening, I love Stu very much, Jake, I'm still working on that. That's fair. Well. I mean, there's some big things that happened this week that we could talk about, but we could also just talk about whatever we want. But I think the two things we probably need to hit in some sense is elden Ring because people are talking about that, honestly, and then then Nintendo Direct. I leave. I leave elden Ring to you. I think I'm the only one here who's played DLC. I won't spend a lot of time talking about it. But what should we start with or should we start with something else? Frankly, I've been living in a whole since Summer Game Fest. Yeah, I didn't know a Nintendo Direct happened until yesterday. When I got back from Vegas and I and I went, did you watch it all? Or did you just like cherry picked, I went to GameSpot dot com to read the news because I have been disconnected and that's how I saw it. So this today, I cherry picked and watched a few things. Okay, so what stood out? Yeah, or what has you excited? I mean, I'm pretty I'm not necessarily I don't know if I'm personally excited, but I'm pumped for the idea of getting a Zelda like a playable Zelda experience. So I thought that was sick, and like, I think it's really cool that they're taking this very like they're doing what looks it looks like it looks like they're taking a traditional design in terms of like how the map of all like dungeon by dungeon a dungeon. Yeah, they make that clearer and they did not, actually, but I did. But there was the whole out of box thinking that they're still seemed to be carrying you over from open air concepts. Yeah, next to a video breaking it down, which is actually really good if you get the chance to watch it on GameSpot dot com of just kind of or YouTube dot Com slash Game spot of kind of going over what we saw on the trailer and how it could translate to how the game actually plays, and it seems like it's going to be closer to based on you know, his expertise, it seems like it's going to be closer to Tiers the Kingdom than it would be like a traditional Zelda game, at least in terms of like how you interact with that, because it doesn't look like you're getting objects that then allow you to go to dungeons like the radical sense. It looks like this is like a thing, and all the little things you can copy can be like combo together. Although with that in mind though, there's still always a chance that it's going to be linear in the way that you go to dungeons in a certain order, and there's just certain things you can't copy, like certain things that exist only in a dungeon, sure right, that you have to copy then to be to go use for the next dungeonta, et cetera. So but I mean, yeah, totally yeah, either way, I'm I'm excited that we're getting Zelda game. Uh fun. Jake Lore one of the first things I wrote and published to IGN blogs was about how they should make a game starring Zelda, and oh boy, were people fucking pissed. Fucking not only was it on IGN. Fuck that. Now you're a fucking game spot doing fucked on all accounts. That's it. But yeah, it was just a blog. I remember, I think I posted it. It was just like a tiny little blog I wrote. And I checked back like a week later, and I had like one hundred and fifty comments of people just being like, fuck, this guy is an idiot. We never want to play Zelda. And I was like, all right, well, how old were you? Yeah, uh, like seventeen or something like that, eighteen maybe, I don't know. Do you remember what the idea was? Did you like have an idea for what? I just was like, I was like, they should make a game where you play a Zelda. Why wasn't this one called the legend of link that. See, I didn't make that joke because I'm sure eight million people that's low hanging fruit for me. But I'm not proud of you. I'm not looking at it. No, don't be I'm not proud. Good job. Yeah, I get fucked. I mean I you that everyone else, everyone else. Yeah, you're ahead of the curve. I like that they're doing all of these. I mean, this is a new game, but I love that they're keeping with the Links Awakening style. I love that Link between Worlds in particular. At first, I thought it was a remake of Link between Worlds, and I was like, that's kind of cool if that's what this is. But I'm excited it's something new. It's gonna be fun. I I hope they do Oracle the Oracle games next to if they're keeping in line with this kind of remake, you know, art style, that would be very cool. Yeah, I mean, I just think it's interesting that they decided to use the art style of a remake as to push it's a new exact version of the game for it and still like retain this very distinct look and oh no, it's cool to see like, hey, we remade a game and we had a distinct art style for that thing, and now we can still use the same isometric look, the same sort of art style, the same sort of thing, and evolve the series in a different way exactly, which is which is awesome. So I think I just't even think that is is cool. And it looked like it was within because I was looking at it and I was like an at the DCOU tree and like like the castle, and it almost looks like ok Arena, like the designs of those characters. So I wonder, you know, not that there's any continuity within the Zelda timeline. That thing is a hot mess, but like I wonder where they're gonna put it, if how it sits because they had the cloaks like from Breath Volunteers of the Kingdom, Like does it you know, I don't know if they're doing it intentionally, yeah, trying to complicate it and make We're gonna make a Zella like I mean this especially, it's like, Okay, we're gonna make a new legend of Zelda game. It's going to use the art style of a beloved remake of a beloved game that we love. So it's going to trick everyone thinking it's an additional design. Gotcha plays Zelda, Gotcha, We're fucking everything. We're gonna have them wear cloaks from these We're gonna do this, and I hope it has like Twin Peaks references for no reason. Yeah, just like the other one. I think even Auma when he was asked after h Tears in the Kingdom how this fits into the timeline. He was like, I don't know, whatever does Yeah, yeah, yes, all you need all you need to I'll watch what I say not fuck it. All you need to get a life. All you need to enjoy that. You just need to be able to enjoy things as they are in front of you, in your hands. If you if it helps, if it helps you sleep at night, trying to create this grand illusion of what you want to see these other games, Yeah, so be it, but stay off line with it. Yeah, keep it to yourself. Don't put it on a blog on uh. I mean, at least that was like wishful thinking. It wasn't like, you know, being like Zelda wore this bracelet. Yeah oh yeah, Whaler did not think that deep in fact, that article is probably like three hundred words, and it was just like that's more than I mean, other than just being like, hey, guys, you ever think about maybe giving Zelda chance about down time? Yeah? I just did that and it was a tough day day. That's hilarious. What else from those other than that metroid looks like we got we got your metroid prime for a little finally yeah, wink and a nod. Yeah, I think that. I find that was to me a very Unintendo thing to do. Frankly, like, it was very weird to see Nintendo show gameplay of a game that still doesn't have release date until twenty twenty five and like doesn't really didn't really look like anything other than what could be like the opening level and it's still I don't know. I was just surprised. I just felt like, well, what was weird too, is didn't they say it was only gonna be games coming out this year? Oh, I have no idea. Maybe not, I thought I thought for some reason because maybe I just made that line in my head because don't country HG's coming out beginning next year. It really rules? Yeah yeah, but yeah, I mean I'm excited for Metroid because it's Metroid, but like, that's definitely one of those games where I'm not I need to play it, I need to play it when it comes out. I'm gonna play it, and I'm gonna be like, damn, this is a very good game, and then what if it isn't? That would be to look back on your Game Spot podcast Episode whatever, epide forty six, Episode one, to be fair. I mean, there's really only two good Metroid Prime games, right, Like that's what people say, maybe three? Isn't there only three? Yeah? Well okay, no, sorry, isn't there like there's like Metroid Prime Hunters. There's like the one, right, yeah, there's like a bunch of even like it was in corruption, like kind of the third one. Actually I've never played it played. I only played one and two and people were like, yeah, that's good. But then there's the other M. Isn't it is that Metrod Prime the other that's I don't think. I think that's just Metroid other M. I think it's different. Yeah, like like, is that even retro? Do we know? If? No, it's not retro? I think right? Uh? In the wasn't it No? I thought it was not Platinum the Dad or Alive. Oh interesting, we can look at it. We have something or another yea, you might be right, but it does Ninja Ninja and it is not called Metroid Prime. It is just Metroid other m, not even the other M. Just going to be so many Metroid listeners checking out right now. I mean I played Metroid Prime U Remastered and that game is so fucking good. It is so fucking good. I never was able to finish it when I was younger, and I'm very grateful for that remaster because the controls are fucking great and everything's awesome, and it's a playing it a new last year this year. This is last year. Last year. Yeah, it was last beginning last Yeah. The game is amazing. So yeah, that game is like pretty close to perfect. Replaying it, I was like, god, damn yeah, I I honestly though, one of my one of the coolest announcements I thought was that Metroid zero Mission coming to Oh yeah, okay, yeah, Metro zero Mission is on Nintendo Online whatever. Hell yes, so, and that's considered the remake of the first one. Remake of the first one. But I think it's been like I've never played I played the original, but I played the hell out of Zeroo. That game is. It's so incredible. I replayed it a couple of years ago as well, and it still holds up. It is so damn good. I just played it for the first time like two months ago, and it's it's phenomenal, like like pacing that game is so good, like like how you find your abilities in that My god, it is short. Yes, replayable. I was definitely on a high after Dread and you Zero Mission come up several times in conversation and I just didn't go around to it. But if it's on that you should, you should play it because they had played the original, and I played a lot of the original. I never finished it because that game is fucking absurd if you're trying to do it like a if you're trying to raw dog it. Yes, but I would love to go back measure. Dread really got like put me in a high for a second because I thought Dread was so good. Fusion is really good too, if you haven't played that, I definitely prefer Zero Mission to Fusion, just because of the way Fusion structured is a little strange. I think that's strange. It's just not what I quite wanted, I guess, but yeah, it's a little still very good. Yeah, both, and they're both on the online, so it's like that is a double feature, so good, mamam is right, that's exactly it. The other thing, what was the other Super Mario Yeah, yeah, or Mario Luigi Brothers Sha, I'm sorry, I hate that name. I don't know what it is. Brother brother Ship there's something about it that I was like, It's one of those things where I've read brother like I reading as Mario Luigi Brothership. Not hearing it, I'm like, oh, yeah, that's cute, that's cool. They're finally trying to do something. But hearing you say it over and over and over brother Ship, brothership brother Ships like brother ship, brother ship, brother exactly, let's get up to some brother ship. Hey brother, it's got up to some ship, and I like the plucking Luigi, what the fuck you do? Come on? We gotta go to brother to some brothership to come on with the Mario brothers and plumbers the game like the other's the brother ship brother Ship. Yeah. So besides the name, I was very excited. I mean, you know you've been on a Mario RPG high I have, and I'm not. I don't like the art style for that. Whatever they're doing it, they just didn't didn't quite grab me. I don't know. I'll still probably play it. I'm sure it's fun and clever, but I don't know. It's so optimistic. Every single time I love I love like, you know, it's like, I'm sure, I'm not sure what Prime four is going to be amazing, Like you don't know that, And it was like Mario Luigi Brothership, It's probably gonna be fun, you don't know that. Well, what I'm worried about. You know, it's the first one that's not developed by by the developer. Yeah, just shut them down, right, Yeah, twenty nineteen, and like their only thing was those games Partners in Time, Boss, Inside Story, Superstar Star. While they shut them down. I don't know, Yeah, I think they I love when companies shut studios down and then go ahead and make a game for that studio. It's great. Didn't it just get folded into like Nintendo's development division like R and D that's whatever it is. But yeah, I don't know. Just looking at the art style, I was like, this isn't quite doing it for me, because I do really like the Mario Luigi games, at least ones I've played. But yeah, looking at it, I wasn't wasn't super hot on it. I will say, what did look really good is the like battle animations. They're like team up moves that they did. I was like, there's one more kicking a shell back and forth like a soccer game, and it like the camera angle was really cool. I was like, okay, we're We're good there seemingly, but the rest of it, I was one of the weirdest things to unpack is that the new voice actor. Yeah, it's always like it's always it's like it's a weird thing because I have to step back and think about it. Yeah, but when I heard Mario say, Luigi, I'm not gonna time doing the do it, I was like, that doesn't sound right. We have some brother yea, but hey, let's go down as the brooklyn A anyways. I was like, hey, I forgot their replaces there, no anyways, But it was it was just one of those very like slightly off moments where I was like, oh, yeah, I guess like that's it. Like he's just Brandon Bastard and he doesn't even know what that means. But he's you know, yep, still employed getting paid to just I don't know, just go for him walk around and be like anymore. I follow him on Instagram and he's just like in the most random of places, being like the audio like walk in Year from this tall He's just doing all the voices. He's like I would love to hear Warrio and he's just crying his eyes. Yeah, that's yeah, Charles Martine, what a legend? Anything else from the direct that stood out? I'm trying to remember what else we saw. I'm genuinely it's I know it's it's just a re release. But those Donkey Kong, Yeah, those that and Tropical Freeze are both like, Tropical Freeze is so good, hard good top fucking tier platform ers. Uh, Tropical Freeze is so hard. They're both really difficult. But it was just like, I don't know, I couldn't help get a twinkle of excitement, a flutter in my heart. So is that because is the three D S version and also a re release of the WEI version because they have correct and then this is a got It and that's why this one has levels that the three DS version had. Three D version even came out after got It's okay, Okay, that's awesome. So it's a combination of the two. But I mean, oh wait, Tropical Freeze is already on switch cr it is, yeah, okay, because that was a we U game, right that came out like same year the switch came out, right, because I have Funky Mode, Funky Mode I only played on the U. I don't know what it is, But I just plays Funky Kong, but like, what is that like a surfboard and stuff? Yeah, they different movies. They put him in the corner of the box sar and he's like they like cut out a part of it and it just shows Funky Kong. And it's like now with funky mode, that was the meme for a while, it's like every funky mode, where's the lanky mode? That's where's the sixty Like that doesn't even come to switch online? Has it. That's because everyone's gonna be reminded. Dk Rapp's gonna be reminded of that of that game right now lives as a is this fantasy thing like oh man, that game you had like peanut guns or nuts and could switch between a bunch what I so like, fuck that? I don't want d K sixty four. Where is like my fucking donkey Kongah? Yeah, there's like Conga and the other one, the one the platform that uses the bongos. It's like King of Swing. No, it's something else like that name though, Yeah, there is one I think that's named King of Swing a rockabilly band it does. Yeah, but whatever that one jungle Beat Jungle is sick. I always I always thought the visuals and the graphics and jungle beat were incredible. Yes, and you fight the bosses and you have to like bang on the bongos. I love that ship. That's what I want. Yeah, I remember doing uh like we will rock you on Donkey Konga. Yeah, I wish, I wish we had more novelty music game. I think fu man do with the joy cons? Yeah, I mean it doesn't you know, you need the Yeah, the bomb goes, But how did you clap with the joy cons? Just bash them together? Of course obviously that's how you fix your stick drift is fashion them together. You'll figure it out. I mean, I think if I feel like it's cooler to punch your fist, you know, you know I was gonna say fist yourself, but I mean bombing yourself. Curious how the controller would pick that up, but yeah, I don't know, haptic feedback. Fisting yourself that's what cool? So funny. Yeah. What do you think would be a harder issue to solve trying to get Donkey Konga on the switch without the peripheral or trying to get a hotel dusk? I think a Hotel dusk. You need a mic. I just had my brain just broke for a second because I was gonna be like, I think it's more likely than Donkey Konga. Yeah, yeah, I mean I don't know how Trace Memory did. I'll buy it. I was gonna say that improve the odds. Yeah, I have purchased it, both of them. I as somebody who played the first Trace Memory on DS. I really did not enjoy the remake for the switch. It actually made me like nervous for the potential to bring hotel dust to it. So I would love it. But and of course if it comes out and it's bad, that's fine. The other one exists still, it's not going anywhere, so it's relatively cheap too. Now one of those assholes, you know, he's like, the fuck you fucking ruined my No, you fucking ding dong. It's still there. It's still there. But the trace Memory thing was one of those things where I was like, I don't know if I want this studio taking it on, but I'm you know, whatever, whatever happens happens. Yeah. Well apparently you can just get it on the iPad. Now, someone was posting that you can just use your iPad of it a fucking iPad. Oh true, that's just like I'm super excited that. I mean, whatever, play however you want. But Jean Luke said that to us. I was like, there's like three puzzles in that game where you have to loose physically closer ds and reopen them and you can't. You know, you're more likely doing a foldable you have to force the lock button. Yeah. Game, But still even if even if that was the thing I would give them credit for, Like I bet you could. I bet like the Apple would be like, oh no, you can't access, like you can't be real, you can't write. It wouldn't work. But I actually think we'd be more likely to have Hotel Mexico. Yes, I was going to say, speaking of remakes, I was actually very excited for the what are they actually called the investigation. They're not Phoenix right Investigations. It's like Miles Edgeworth because they were only ever release in Japan, So it would be cool to experience those for the first Is that what that was a part of the announcement. Sick. Yeah, there's three games right that. Yeah, they've been doing that consistently. I've never played a Phoenix right game, I feel like I probably should. You should probably at least play the first one first, like so good like it also has like a it also has like a Colombo like character in it, like Detective Gump Shoe. I think I have it on SWITCH because I think it was like two dollars like for the whole collection or whatever. I mean they also are on PC right, yes, yeah, yeah, Well I just sold my steam Deck to Max earlier today. So did you really what? What? What? Because I just don't use it? Oh? Really? Wow? I have not turned that thing on. I turned it on for the first time because Max City was interested in buying it because I made a joke a while ago that i'd sell it and then Max was like, I'll buy it. I was like okay, so I turned it on. I'm like, yeah, it still works, and are you just using your regular PC instead like in my switch because I don't. I don't take my steam Deck when I travel because it's too fucking big. Fair Yeah, I mean that's why I haven't traveled with it though. You. I mean, we have some trips lined up to bring my switch, but and I was definitely thinking there's a well I'm going to games Com, and I definitely think I might bring it just so I can continue playing Oblivia. Yes, I have your Have you been playing it on the steam Deck? That's how I played my first thirty hours of it? How the hell have you got it to work? I I've I need to figure out what control set up, because when I was playing it was hard. You can download layouts, even the ones I I I'll just find the right I honestly mostly just played with the track pad like as. I don't even use the analog. I just use like the track pad as as the mouse. And uh that sunds painful. I love it. It's well. I also played Planescape Torment on my steam deck the entire way you jumped into the deep end and then you Also I played all Out one and two on the steam deck. Remember that, no controller support whatsoever, just using only the track pad as a mouse. That's the only way to play those games. Because I'm talking about raw Dog and yeah, I should wait until you got a PC. Well, now I have the best of both worlds. Yeah, and that's a PC. That's you know, that's it. You're you're a PC gamer. Now it's filled with spaghetti. Yeah, filled that that barradas all up in the motherboard. Love that that's what's keeping it cool. I mean it already has some cooling issues. It doesn't really, it's just instead, I would love instead of the thermal paste. It's just a lot of sliceada basil. It's like a brazy salad. It's just you have a little I have a little sliced tomato, a little mozzarella and basil and then balsamic on top of the mush between my motherboard. It's a thermal pan and it fixed your and fixed your CPU problems. If I ever go to your apartment, I'm just gonna imagine, like you just fix everything with Italian food. The steam ducks busted again. I'll just fill it up a sauce, just be good to go. Pipe sleek and I just wrapped it with spaghetti lingueni it. Yeah, the pipe sleeking underneath the sink, just you know, with some basil and lasagna bottom being bottom. Boom, Hey Luigi, look at this brother ship. What we're gonna get some Yeah, there's a crack of the wall. Just put some dough on it, a pizza to a flower, call it a day. Oh my god. Boom, boom. That would work. I'm sure no issues at all. Hey, it's keeping my PC e cool. Hey, that's all that matters. That's what you can play Night Spring's Deals expansion back. Yes, and that's it. Yeah. Speaking of which, have you guys played those? Yes, fucking right, I have, Yes, absolutely fantastic. How would you howould you rate them or not rate them? Rank them? Like? Oh? Three? One two? Three one two? I actually was really like whatever about episode two? I so I actually I played through one, loved it. I started too, and I didn't stop playing because I wasn't interested, but I stopped playing because elden ring and I haven't really been excited to go back to episode two, but I cannot wait to play three. Three is so fucking good. And as someone as as a fellow Laura Lie in the Laser Eyes, Yes, lover, it's like a game of the year. Yeah, so are you that because I the last time I talked to you hadn't started playing it yet not to completely derail. Yeah. Yeah, oh no, I've finished it. Oh yeah it was yeah. Yeah, I'm still working my way for sure. If you need a small fix, like a small lore line, a laser eyes like Jolt in the Arm. Play episode three, Okay, like, just fucking do it. I think now that I've finished the Elden Ring and I'm like, I think I'm gonna play it this weekend. Episode three is like it's it's almost bizarre that it's like come out within a month of lore line, you'll understand why would you play it? Okay, interesting, but it's very good. God, it's so good. I'm excited. It's so good. Yeah. To two's hard, Too's a hard one to like, I feel like the pacing slows down so much, and like it's such a different vibe from that first one. At least correct me if I'm wrong, But I just feel like there's a lot of expectation for what more control would be and more Jesse fhaden and and based on what I played, it kind of felt like a what if scenario and it was like, yeah, it was. I don't I don't think. I mean, Remedy is always pretty good at giving just enough to I think, you know, going back to earlier when I was saying, like everyone needs to calm down and not you know, freak out about their their theories, and I always feel like Remedy like never really gives you enough to ever really have it there. But it's like they like fuck with you a little bit. And I like that about them because I don't give a shit, Like I don't, I don't care to hear the dots and make sense of it all. And I'm not saying the second episode does that. It doesn't explain anything, but it also doesn't add anything. Yeah, so it didn't really like give me a new perspective of the scenario or the character involved, unlike episode one, which was like to me, like, uh, the perfect idea of the people who are obsessed with their with their theories. Yea, literally put yourself in the shoes of a person who's created fan fiction and the you know this idea, like what if I went and saved you know, it's so good. It's so dumb too. His fucking when his motorcycle turned out. That was the part I'm sorry spoilers, like when it's been out and it's only like it's only like thirty minutes to play that one, and that I died, so died because he says so they do like my motorcycles now a wolf and I also actors are And then I looked at my AMMO count and I was like I have a lot of ammo. Yeah, And then I held and I was like, oh, I get what's happening here. I'm just supposed to mow these things. It is like walk into areas. Yeah, ud straight power fantasy automatic shotgun just like go because I even got like, like there's a there was like the tutorial thing about the automatic shotgum. But then I picked up the shot and I'm like, well, that's not an automatic shotgun, so I must get it later or something like that or some upgrade. And then I was like, oh no, I just shread these Things's the haters I think is what they're called. Oh I love that they they re recorded the lines where it's like you're not terrible a writer up, like it's so good but I can't stress enough. Episode three, Yes, so fucking good. I don't want to say Sam Lake wrote that one right correct as far as I know, well, claimer if he wrote episode one and two, oh that three, Not that it matters who world wide, but yeah, the I just think episode three is like it's just I can't say it enough. Just go play this weekend, especially like as a fellow lare Lion Laser Eyes lover, I just just go and play it, all right? So good? Have you guys been playing anything else, Stu, have you been playing what? I? Oh, so I've actually yes, I went back and I've been playing the Which one is it? The New Order? Wolfenstein? The New Order? It's my first time because all this machine games talk, you know, for Indiana Jones, I was like, I don't even know what these people are about, Like, I don't know what their deal is till you get to number two. Man. Like, So I'm really excited because even this first one is snappy and fun, really really good setups in the first one, and they fucking knock it out. I'm really excited. I'm really really excited. I loved one. I thought one was great. The writing in one is amazing. It's and like I think there's like a simplicity not simplicity, but there's like a straightforwardness to it that I really really like and admire. But two is like cranks everything up and like like Kurt saying, like they pay off so much that they set up to a point where, yeah, that the way that game ends is just incredible. I'm so excited. Where are you in one? Where am I in one. I've found the Resistance. I've you got to the train scene. I'm I'm hijacking the train right now, like I'm in the station, like getting there's there's oh wait, no, no, the train scene with with frau Engle. Yes, oh yes, I have there's a card own my something that happens later. I can't they just think you're so good. I love that so much. Oh, I've seen I've seen the basically the concentration camp scene to her whole like, oh my god, she's like in your face. Oh, it's so well. I think there's some of the that's one of the best writing teams in video games. Like it's just it's that is so good. Like the thing that pushes me for Indiana Jones's because I really don't care about it otherwise, but I would play it just to know that team. Yeah, if that is the same team, especially as someone who really likes Indiana Jones. Like, the last few movies have been pretty disappointing, especially on the writing side, and I feel like Machine Games might be able to actually tell a good Indiana Jones story, which has me excited. But yeah, at the same time, I want Wolfenstein three so bad. The thing the thing too for I mean, the thing that I think Machine Games is writing does so well. And I think it also lends the fact that they're they're writing about Nazis, so you inherently hate Nazis already, as you should. But I think the thing that they're writing does so well is they make the bad guys so comical, like not comical, like they're funny, like like like slapsticks. Yeah, yeah, and like they have such a good job of like writing the bad guys. There's a fucking god, there's this part in Wolfenstein too, when you go to a movie set and that's all same. It's just one of the best written moments of like when you're face to face with bad guys and you see them in this very human, stupid fucking way. Well, I've seen the I've seen like the is the milkshake scene or whatever that there's a no, there's a scene when BJ has to go to a movie set. Oh my god. I would also reck complain the DLCs of the first one too old Blood or I guess that's not I guess it's a spin off. Well, isn't one of them, like the prequel sort of yeah, old Blood, but I think this second one is. And then there's young Blood, and there's young Blood, which is I tried to replay that young but wait, isn't that a separate game or is that just a dec It's technically a separate game. I think was the wrong word for me to use. But but Old Blood, like because I'm playing it on PC game Pass and it includes all the yeah, yeah, old Blood is oldlos a lot of fun. I wouldn't say it's like it has any of the writing chops. It just has. It's just it takes it to like a very pulpy, corny sort of like TI like pulp actual fiction sort of. I mean, that's the kind of incredible thing when you talk about the writing, is the trap is so easy to fall into that in the main game, but it really doesn't. But it still has the style of like a pulpy Guarantino esque kind of you know, Laura's Bastards feel. I'm getting chills because I know so excited I want to go home and replay. But I'm thinking of parts in Wolfstein too right now that I'm like, oh my god, because like, you can't you appreciate those scenes as much god less, just the way they take where they take BJ is. Yes, he's great. He's my favorite male protagonist in a game. Like ever, he's so good in this. It's like also like he had no right to be that good of a character exactly, and that's why. That's why when you play number two. I was always like they took the archetype of like big buff, white, chisel fucking neck man literally from like thumb yeah, thumb man from Wolfenstein three D, all the way back in the day, and like made him one of the most like compelling, apathetic, like complex guy, like like just dude, bro gun guy. And then like it's just amazing to be honest, when he started doing the like in the beginning where always like another one dead, so many more to kill, and I was like all right, but then it was it builds so well. Die yes, Oh it's so good. Yeah, I am loving that. I'm playing Loreli that. And there's one other thing random uh uh. It's called shin Chan Me and the Summer Professor. It's a game on the switch. It is that was a lot your delivery. It's it's uh, it's a god. It's a series that has only been Japanese up until this point, it's all about literally just being on your summer vacation. So in juxtaposition to walk someone who play as a little kid. Yeah, forget what it's called in Japanese, but it's the first one to come to the West, I think. And it has thin yeah, and you just run around like delivery. Well the name is ridiculous and the professor like what I but shin Chan, I guess I. I don't know that much about hin Chin, but they're like a like a manga anime character, you know, big in Japan, and they were roped into this UH series and it's the only one that has come to the West. And I'm loving it because it's the complete opposite of Wolfenstein. It's just like catching bugs and shin Chan gets a machine guns dual assault. Right. Yeah. Also, god damn, we've gotta stop talk about I mean, I just think it has like one of the best cover systems. I love because I'm playing it. Keep coming. We don't need to talk about No. It is like the I love the the like hold the button tilt up because you can get God, it is it. It is one with the chainsaw scene right where like oh, the guy in the basement and the yeah oh yeah so and he's like I won't tell you anything or whatever, and then it brings out the chains. Oh god, it's so good everything, every every part of those I'm gonna go. I keep saying I gotta go home and play this. I think every time I think once a week, can I do this tweet like bring it up? Well, now you have another person saying yes, go do it. Yeah it does. It really does have me excited for Indiana Jones just because that writing it feels in line with like A Raiders specifically. Yeah, not even I said this during summer sure, during the summer Game Fast Xbox showcase, because I was like, I don't want to punch Nazis. I want to be covered in their blood. Yes, And that's like because Lucy was like, there's Nazi punching in Indiana's Like, I know, I want to be covered in their goddamn blood. I don't want to punch them. I want them to explode. That's exactly anyways, But I'm excited for you Indiana Jones people. Sorry, yeah, I'm I'm excited for it. One thing that's really holding me up is every time I hear Troy Baker do his Harrison Ford impression. I think it's good. I know, the more the more I hear it there mumbley, mumbley. I think it's just like I hear Troy Baker and then yeah, problem, I wish they did. I wish they just got like someone else. I don't know, like too much Troy Baker. Who would you wanted, not Troy Baker. I guess I don't know someone else who just does a good Harrison not like Troy Baker. Nolan North of those people who I can hear right away, like I'm just playing Destiny and like, oh, what's his name? Is the Nolan North is your ghost? Yeah? I think it just sounds like Nolan North. It's like there's Nathan Drake and talking Bruce Campbell to Indiana Love that what incredible? Makes no sense at all? Grooving Yeah, hold on ye. I think it's just because because I can still hear Troy Baker. Yeah. All I know is that in my I realized later that Harrison Ford has the slurry kind of way that he talks. Yeah, And I didn't really notice until I was older and was like, I feel like it's gotten worse with yeah, he's gotten So when I do give credit to Troy Baker for like acknowledging that he's got the sort of drunk slurry that Harrison for he's weird. Yeah it was. Once I heard it, I was like, wait, why why does he sound like he's drunk all the time? He does? Okay, But one thing about that Indiana Jones thing they should off when they were in like on like that boat in the Arctic or whatever, and that Nazi That's what I was revery. That's what I was referring to. The writers have a really good way of making their bad guys look like not just like you don't hate them because they're bad guys, you also hate them because they're fucking obnocious and they're stupid. Yeah, like a wolf and signed to moment. I mean that's a wolf and steigin moment like to the nth degree. That's that's the small part where I'd be interesting seeing, like I want to see how dumb and corny they make these people. Yeah, but that would be it makes you want to punch them even more. I want them to blow up, which they do and sign Oh my god, I'm they blow up more into what do they really You have a lot more, you have a few more execution sort of attacks and uh into too as well. I do the tomahawk kills. Yeah, there's not because honestly this we are just gonna talk about wolf. But that was the other surprising thing is the stealth is actually really good in that first one. Like the stealth sections I don't feel are just kind of like placeholders where they're trying to usher you into something. I mean, they do feel like they do give you a little wiggle room, I guess, to play a little bit how you want. I still it's not quite stealth on rails that I don't like, but uh yeah, no, I agree. I agree. It gives you enough chance to take out maybe some of the guys doing the beacon stuff before you get into your big gunfight, which I like, yeah, god, yeah, there's so much I want to talk about in two. But like you even even like, yeah, like too much. It was spoiled too much. That's why I was like, there's see there's a that's yeah, I can't talk about it. It's just there's just parts of the When you're done, we'll have you back on, we'll do it. We'll do Wolfings then one and two spoiler casts. Love that, love that. I'm happy, I'm ready for it, but we're never gonna get a third one. So oh yeah, yeah, just Indiana Jones from now on, that's it. Talk to us about elden Ring. Uh goddamn, you're gonna piss a lot of people. I love. Yeah. I played around forty hours of Out of Weird Tree. It is incredibly good. It is more elden Ring, but it's more compact. It is very fucking hard. I didn't even play a new game plus, which people say, like that is even harder, but many enemies with just one shot me anyway, so I don't know. I mean, I didn't have like a really broken build either, but anyway, generally, like all the new weapons are great, there's some really fun new ways to build out characters. The world that they've created in this area is really good. It's almost more interesting. Then. It might be more interesting than the lands between, just because each area feels more diverse and they're more compact, and the way they're connected still makes sense. So it feels very it feels very natural, but at the same time, it feels like I'm in a very different place than the Lands between. Got it really dig the story. I'd say this is probably one of the more straightforward stories they've told since, like maybe Sekiro like was kind of for Yeah, it's still like there's a there's a bunch of mystery. There's a bunch of you know, lower people who will be reading item descriptions and making thirty minute videos about those. Much love to them because it's a lot of work, great videos. But as someone who doesn't always get super into the lore, like, there's enough story there to cling on too and follow that makes it interesting. And it's exploring some characters that were referenced in the original but you don't see or hear too much until this, which makes it cool. But I think like at the end of the day, it is more eld and ring. I respect the hell out of from Software and Miyazaki for deciding that they're going to put this behind a very difficult boss that is very hard to find and you have to jump through some ridiculous hoops in order to get there, and like I think like on Steam like twenty percent of people had actually done the requirements in order to do it, which kind of makes sense because it's only like the hardcore fans who really end up picking up DLC anyway, and I imagine they're the ones who've done it. But I just like that commitment, I guess. But yeah, it's it's really good. Like I don't know what else there is to say about it. It is more Elderering, and it is excellent. I think if Elderering itself didn't do a lot for you, probably not really gonna be your thing. Makes sense. If you didn't finish Eldering, you didn't get to that point and you want to play. This kind of sucks because you have to get there. Yep. But yeah, Tam gave it a ten out of ten yep, which is our first ten of the year. Oh really, oh wow. Yeah, Ralph strongly recommended it, so the way you said that, I love his grading system. Yeah, strongly recommend. That's the way the Australians do it. I guess, so exclusively. You mean Ralph speaks for all of a stress. Yeah. Yeah, so everyone reviews everything there. I was gonna say, I'm so uh my favorite from soft game is blood Boorn and that's the one that like I fought to get to the DLC and like worked to get through that DLC and I wanted more of that. That being said, I loved elden Ring, but I I it sucks because I don't know. I just don't. It's funny when you say it's like it's for the people who are already obsessed with it, who are already into it, and it's like it is a weird thing because there does feel like a small barrier in which, like I love elden Ring, but like I definitely fell off and it's one of those things where like I have to just accept that I probably will never see this deal. I have to start in order to like get yourself back. I mean, maybe you don't. It depends on how well you remember those controls and like how you remember what you're doing. But I feel like to really experience it if you don't have a save ready and if you haven't done multiple playthroughs, to be honest, like I feel like you have to just start fresh and just kind of work your way there, which isn't bad because it's still very good. But I think, like, like I think Old Hunters is their best DLC that they've done, Like that is my favorite and it still is my favorite, and I think when I look back at other from software games and elden Ring, elden Ring is not one I like to replay just because of how big and unwieldy it is. It's weird because I've I've played every single from soft game. I've only finished one and I finished it like multiple times over and so it's like I've started all No, actually that's not is that true. I don't know because I played I was like Deep Demon Souls I played when it came out, the original. But yeah, I feel like I it was like a weird thing when I realized we're like, oh, I love from Soft games. I played all of them and I've enjoyed all of them. And then there was a weird moment when I was like, but Bloodborne is the only one that I've actually like finished finished the DLC and then played again and finished and then played again and finish. It's like, it's very bizarre. Well maybe that's true, and I know I think no, I did. I've like seen people finished Dark Souls one so many times, and I know how to beat that final boss that I just feel like I've done it. I'm pretty sure I have or just help people do it. Yea, I'd be like, oh, I just gotta do this, this and this and there you go take that path and you go there and you perry this fucker until and then what you do with that flame is up to you. But I it's just I don't know. It's a weird thing where it's like I sit here being like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, and then I'm like, but I'm not actually gonna go I need to like be honest with myself. Tear the band off. It's not gonna happen. I'm playing Residing before again, so I play this time. So oh god, I mean I think that's that's fine, to be honest, like I like I said, I think it is for the obsessives, you know, and uh, like i'd say I'm an obsessive. I played through Eldinering like five times, even though I'm sitting here saying I kind of don't really like replaying Elder Ring as much as I did replaying Bloodborn or Dark Souls, just because that linearity makes it like, it makes it feel like you can really play with the structure of the game to sort of like fit how you want to improve your character, level up your character, how fast you want to get through it, while Elderering is very much like like, sure you can skip a lot of the tertiary stuff, but it's still like you're traveling an enormous map. You have to revisit certain dungeons that aren't always the most exciting because they're not as like the side dungeons in particular, and is meticulously designed or as like visually interesting as a lot of stuff you'd see in Dark Souls one, two or three your Demon Souls. So I've got a lot of mixed feelings on like like New Game Plus and elder Ring in particular, and I think like one of the frustrating things for me about this DLC is there's so many weapons I want to try, There's so many builds I want to run, but I have to replay so much of Eldin' Ring to get to that point. Oh yeah, so if I want to do it multiple and like to be fair, I have I had one PC save. I've got a couple Xbox saves that are there, so like I can do it. But like during this review period where I only had PC save and I only had one save, and it's like, man, I got like I got like a light great sword that I really wanted to try, but I didn't have the build for it, and I didn't have enough. I didn't have a I could have grinded out a tier, found a tier to respect and do it, but it's like, I don't want to stop in the middle of this run with this build that I've created just to test out a sword that I may not end up wanting to use. Yeah, what I want to ask is sure, there's the there's the idea of different builds and different weapons and all those things hit me in the face. Yeah, I'm smacking j around right now. And of course, like let lens the replayability, But I am curious to hear your overall thoughts on like the future of of like the frum staff Soft style of I. I don't know. I to be honest, I hope we don't get another open world game, or if we do, I hope it's scaled back a lot. But like I know, Miyazaki recently said that like elden Ring, wasn't the fantasy game he's been trying to make, and he thinks he's getting close, So like interesting, I'm excited for whatever they do next, But honestly, I don't know. I hope I hope he kind of like they kind of focus it a little more. Though you you played the DLC, obviously you finish it. I did finish it, Okay. How do you feel about whether or not like the longevity of in general of like, do you think there's enough innovation that from Soft is capable of doing to make sure that this formula that's now being done to death and back by every other person trying to do from Soft like it's still there. So I mean, well, here's the thing. When I was playing this DLC, I think that was even clear that like so many other people are trying to do so many other developers are trying to do this. But I think what really like puts from Software kind of above them. I'd say, head and Shoulders is just that world design, the enemy design, boss design, like the the visuals, you know, like the worlds they create are just so distinct and elaborate and just very impressive. I mean, like, I've played Lives of p I've played a little bit of Lords of the Falling, Lord of the Fallen or whatever like I've I've played those games, but none none have really connected with me, and arguably some have tighter combat, some have more interesting builds you can make, you know. I mean, even talking to Ralph a while ago, he was saying that he thinks Team Ninja's NEO has better combat than I don't agree, but like I understand, you know, like I just seeing Sekero. That's like that was like such a cool moment when when from Soft like really doubled down on trying to do something like so like this is it, like this is your build, this is what you do. These are your tools, and I do want to see or I'm curious of, you know, I'm interested in seeing them kind of do another install, not another secral, but another style where it's like I think, I agree, this is it like like you know, your builds, like you could do whatever you wanted, but now like learn to play this way. Yeah, yeah, what's exactly what you were saying. Within the level design of those more linear ones, your Dark Souls and bloodborns is then you get to like just rip that system apart as much as you can and learn as much as you can within those confines. And that, to me is what is great about their combat because you can just like figure out all the little tiny things that you can do within whatever combat system they're giving. And then even like speaking to the linearity, like when I when you play Dark Souls three or Dark Souls two or whatever, like or Blood Born, you'll go down a corridor and it there'll be a reason for it, you know, like you're going down it, there's something to find there, there's some secret, like you may not know what it is like right away, but if there is a reason that this hallway exists, and there's a reason why you've gone this way and you had to work your right and Eldon Ring, the map is so big that they're just areas that I'm like, so, what's the point of this? Yeah, And it's like it's like to like look at the birds fly around, Like I guess that's cool. That's a part of it. Yeah, And like I don't want to sound like trust me, I've played I played two hundred hours that game on PC. I played four hundred hours on Xbox. Like I played that. I love that game. But like when I sit back and think about it, like I'd rather replay Dark Souls or Blood Borner. Imagine the amount of times you could have played Wolfstein one and I know many times. Last thing I'll say on it, though, is that the Final Boss is brutal. It is like they cranked it up a lot. I think people are going to get very stuck and very frustrated on this ball. It it's borderline unfair. I would say, Like the thing with these games have always been hard but fair, right, Like people have said that to death, but like this Final Boss is the first time I've been like this shit's unfair, man. Yeah, And this is like somewhere they were like I'm shaking when I did it. Yeah, when I finally did it, the adrenaline was wild. But like even like I was saying I was telling Max earlier today, I was like, you know, I had a lot of trouble with Millennia, which was the infamous Boss and elden Ring. Initially I didn't use any summons for that fight, and I had trouble with Millennia. I used I used my summon, my mimic tier in the final fight in this game, and I had more trouble with the Final Boss than it was rough, like like it got to the point I think like the first phase I got down pretty well, but the second phase, you just I couldn't predict what he was doing. I didn't understand the patterns. I didn't understand what was happening. He had one move that was an auto stunt. So if you'd always get stuck in that combo, it's so interesting. It's it was very hard. It was satisfying to win, but like having beaten it, I don't even really feel like I beat it because I got good. I felt like I got lucky. I've had that scenario a few times in elter Ring, to be honest, where it's like I will, I will work so hard at beating a boss that by the time I do it, I just want it over with. Yeah and uh my, and people always look at me like I'm crazy when I say this, but like my boss like really keepy hard time and Bloodborne for the longest time was vicer Amelia and people I had trouble with victory. Everyone talked was always like, oh, fac Emilia is like not that tough. Everyone talked about the bloodstarf that was the real one that gave me ship. I beat the bloodstarf Beasts my first time before knowing that it was like an infamous fight. Now it's either fucking sick I remember playing that game, you know, before it was really in like a community of other people playing it, and then you know, in hindsight, everyone's like, oh, vig Emilia was like you just get this weapon, fire paper in this thing, and like done. And then everyone was like but the bulletstar B's was like no, it was the opposite. For me. It to me days to fucking beat Victor Emilia, and when I did, I was like, stood up, fu you, bitch, I love you. It was like I fell in love with her after it happened. I like, like I always think back, like my video game wife is Victor Emilia. That's the girl. That's my girl. But I haven't really had that relationship with the boss and al the ring m interesting. Yeah, I mean that's how I felt with the final boss in this I guess, but like fuck you, I love you, or over it. Yeah, I mean all three of those emotions, right, because like, on top of the fact that it's frustrating, it's really hard, it felt a little cheap. It's also one of like like the spectacle is incredible, and like I don't want to spoil anything because it's it's fans will get a fans will love it like what actually happens, but they'll probably throw their controler against the well maybe if they have a lot of trouble. But yeah, anyway, like I felt like I just kind of got lucky when I finally beat it, Like they just did like that they just did a move that I was like, I can exploit this and like not that they bugged out, Like it's not like they just stood still, but they almost like there was a big AoE attack that they just kind of missed, and I was like, well, now's my time to fucking run in and do your thing. Yeah that said, like it's it's still great, Like I had an excellent time. I want to keep playing it. I want to go back with other builds to play it more. It's just, uh, I don't know. Playing through it got me thinking about like the legacy of elden Ring and how I feel about it as a whole, as opposed to how I felt after I played Bloodborne. Played through blood Borne a bunch and Dark Souls, like even Dark Souls, the first one I've only played through like twice, started a bunch, but like, like I have such fun memories of like figuring out that world that like, yeah, I don't know, like it's good, it's just yeah, when I when I put it into perspective, I don't think Elvin Ring is my favorite from softer game. It makes U it's kind of sense what I've walked away with, and your favorite is probably Bloodborn, maybe Securo, maybe Dark Souls one three games to day. Like if I if I'm playing Secro, I'm like, fuck, this is the best is the best thing they've ever done. But then if I'm playing Dark Souls, I'm like, this best thing they've ever done, And then Bloodborne. I think Bloodborne is probably mostly number one. I feel like that's across the board. A lot of people are that. Yeah, anyway, I've talked enough about that. It's been good. Though it good. I've been like, I don't know someone who's not gonna play it. I felt like I wanted to because I just have feelings about the genre as a whole, not not like bad controversial feelings. I just like it's just one of those things where it's just like you get these genres that are cemented by one develop that like you know, push it forward, that like really give it its soul and care, and then like you have all these other developers swing in and try to put their stamp on stuff, and like, you know, it's it's only natural, and it's not like I doubt the longevity of the genre. It's but I dude, feel like if we haven't already gotten there, I'm already feeling fatigue in terms of just like everyone's now only just catching up. And it's like and the fact that everyone's only just catching up is one of those things where it's like I've already like like unless That's why I'm curious about like the innovation part of it. It's like if is the innovation going to be in like different builds and different bosses and different weapons, like for enough for some people, if it's done right, that's enough. But for me it's like I don't know, I just need to feel some you know, I don't know. I'm this is I'm saying, this is someone who's like not going to play the DLC or the expansion, whatever you want to call it. So it's fine, It's just I'm curious about it because every time I see a new frum Soft style game, I kind of like, yeah, I mean you go, like you can like immediately don in a way that's like getting boring. I'm with you because, like I honestly like I don't like souls like games all that much, you know, like I'm sick of them. I only play from Software games because of that innovation, because of that excitement, because of that world design, boss design, like, like I feel like they're very good at like meshing all those things together in a way that I find incredibly compelling. And I think part of it is the fact that they were the first one to do it. They have like kind of they've been the ones who's consistently pushing that genre forward since they started it, you know, like even these copycats, right, which is kind of sounds harsh, but like they feel like they're still in that shadow. And I think the main reason why I'm like not burnt out on from software games are tired is because I don't play any of the others. Like I'll try the other ones, but I just I never get into them. The second I get stuck on a boss, it's like, like, to me, this isn't worth it, you know, Like, like I guess like from Software, when I'm stuck on a boss, I know it's going to be worth it because I know it's going to be waiting for me after it with these with a lot of other developers, it's just kind of like I don't trust you enough I guess to like push through this and know that it is going to be worth it, like and that that was kind of and to be fair, I probably should play more Lives of Peak because people say it does some incredible things in the second half. But like I beat a couple of bosses, got stuck on a boss for like I don't know, probably like not even that long compared to how long I was stuck on a boss in this. But I was just like, I don't do this, I don't got time for this, and just put it down and moved. I also don't abide by any like you got to stick it through. It's like if I'm not feeling I'm not feeling it, like bug off, Like it's like if it's I need to feel that, I need to feel the compulsion to want to go forward and care about it. And I don't know, I'm just getting burnt out seeing them all, like I just that's why it was a fantomly zero. I was about to say, it seems kind of exciting to me.
