The next Stephen. Good Day download with Doug and Jay Kirshner is made possible in part by KELLATRN, which is the safe way for you to lose weight and keep it off, and also by priviging keeping your brain healthy. Celebrating Thursday. Here on Good Day, we have the countdown going to the beginning of fall. Right, Fall is just around the corner. Fall is Saturday. I believe. No, No, it's well the switch over. What's today? Today's Thursday. The flip over is tomorrow afternoon. It's like twenty hours from now in real time, and then the first full day is Saturday. Yes, so you have that correct I believe, But I listen. I'm subject. My information is subject to being corrected, just like Jerry Vale and Jerry mathis, I mean, Johnny mathis so there. All right, So let's dwell today. Let's agree, all of us that we will dwell on the beauty of our lives. Let's let's just kind of take it easy. We had to. I got to send you a picture of me in an air in a hot air balloon that was taken last night. Our development did its groundbreaking and we had a celebration. One of the things that was there was a hot air balloon. Oh fun, Yeah, it was fun. It was kind Was this your first time in one or have you been in No, I've been in them before. I took a ride in one and thought I was going to end up in the middle of the drink. This was a long time ago. We actually had as a stunt when I was working on the station. I was just talking about we had a hot air balloon land in the cow pasture at the farm, and it was the most hysterical thing to see. Once it landed in the air went out of the balloon, because that's what they just shut the gas off and the thing goes down. The cows were all around. They were the funniest. I wish I could find some I never took any video, but I have some pictures someplace. The cows just just just be there, very curious. And that's part of life, seeing and experiencing new things. Imagine yourself. There are a lot of people who were there last night who didn't want to go up, even though it only went up one hundred feet or so. They didn't want to go up in it because they were afraid and fear based thinking. So I just just said okay to a bunch of my friends that were there, come on, let's go. And I've actually went up a couple of times. It was a good experience, as many of life's first times or things that seemed to be dangerous is the right word. But different do different things, see yourself being different, run with a different crowd a little bit. Sometimes that's helpful and good. So that's maybe today's lesson to highlight, among many other things. Yesterday I told you the story about the fellow that got killed, literally got killed at the Patriots game on Sunday. Yes, so, thinking about this, I have never been a fan, but this kind of stuff turns me off more and more to the game of football. I don't like football because of what happens to people. Even though they say, well, they've got new helmets and they're protecting their neck and all that stuff. As far as I'm concerned, that's bourgeois. It's just trying to appease certain members of the public. So I guess I'm trying to figure out what it is. What is the appeal of football? And again you're gonna respond post a question on our social media. The handle for every one of them is a good Day network, so you can leave. I'll say, I'd actually rather hear from people listen to their voice. Eight five five nine nine nine thirty six eighty four. That's eight five five nine nine nine, Doug. I just the NFL is back. There's a game every night of the week. You turn on the television set and there's on some channel. Mondays, well, I think they're more than that, aren't there. I think there's again. Yeah, I'm not mistakes college football on Saturdays. Yeah, it's football anyway, all over the place. So this guy, Dale Mooney was at Gillette Stadium down in Foxboro, Massachusetts to enjoy an NFL game. He had seasoned tickets, and this happened to be Miami versus New England. Now, this guy is or was father of two fifty three years old. He got into an altercation with someone and as it played out you can see on the cell phone videos, he's this guy sort of accosts him and then they wrestle, and then he gets punched in the head by this Dolphins fan. I don't understand the problem that I have with all this is that no charges have been filed against the guy that basically killed this other guy and then at a minimum of assault chargers or something unless the guy who died by the heart attack started it all. I don't know. It's it isn't clear the precise way that there's a bunch of different camera angles and a bunch of different and usually stories videos start once the situation already really see, but in this circumstance, the details of how it gets, especially if they're going to prosecute this guy for murder or manslaughter or whatever it is. I think you know it's at the least involuntary manslaughter, second degree murder, and if he's convicted, throw away the key. Get you know, this is not something that has watching a sporting event, I get it gets heated. It's when it's your team and emotions can get involved, But why does it have to escalate to such a level and it makes you its alcohol is involved and inhibitions go down and yep. I remember my son and my father were very close. My son was much closer to my father than I was, and they loved going there. The thing that tied them together, amongst other things, was sports. I've never been a big sports fan, as anybody who listens to this program knows, but I would take my father and my son to a baseball game or to a football game. So I remember once going to the to the Patriots for a game and we were sitting in good seats and this a hole behind us. Not only was he noisy, he was smoking pot and he was drinking beer, and he spilled a whole cup of beer on my father and I was I was just ripping at this guy who didn't see the error of his ways. He didn't even apologize. Other my son was going to get into it with him. But you can see how with all of the beer and whatever else goes on that there is you know, there's brawls and people because of alcohol more than anything else. Yeah, I can see that there are some people who are die hard fans. But is this something that you're going to kill somebody over? What is the matter with you and the fights? You know, this is only one thing of many. You can say, well, there are plenty of games all the time and fights like this. One fight like this is too many. It isn't acceptable. This is supposed to be a civilized society, So how do you And it is to an extent, but there are members of the society that give the rest a bad name. Look at how many people get shot and killed in road rage accidents because someone cuts somebody off, or somebody cut somebody off and then somebody responded by flipping them off, or somebody is trimming the trees, the yeah on the property line. Somebody knocks on the wrong door, somebody pulls in to turn around in the wrong driveway, somebody wants a parking spot. It's it's absurd, right. So a lot of the social media posts on these fights, you see them all the time. They're drunken rages and stuff. It's just abject tragedy, unnecessary and unacceptable. Frankly, So you who are football fans think about that. Some social media posts a little bit of celebrity gossip that's trending. And certainly not that Oprah is ever a stranger to gossiper or social media or coverage or whatever, because she's just She's Oprah. She's there. It's Oprah the Big Oh. Anyway, so she has didn't she how many years ago was it she did the weight watchers thing a couple three years ago or she was involved with weight watchers for I feel like she's been doing it for decades. It should been that long, but she's had a weight problem pretty much all of her adult life. And so now she is joining the conversation but with a different focus on losing weight. So oh is having this discussion and open aired and open ended panel discussion about losing weight. And in it there's a discussion about ozempic oozepic. Can you hear that on the radio and watching on TV? And I talk a lot about it, these sort of things on the area because I think we have way too much these kind of legitimate quote unquote drugs. And Ken Cronhaus and I have we are very close, except when it comes to stuff like this. He thinks it's great. I think it's a horror show. People take a pill and I think that's all they need to do. And so in this discussion Oprah and the people that are on the panel with her psychologist is on it and some folks from Stanford University who are specialists in obesity, they all talk about this. You know, whatever is going on with your body, what works, how it affects your whatever you're doing affects your brain versus affects your body, And what's the latest. You know, there's a different every I was going to say, scam. It's a different idea, different emotion every day of the week as to how to lose weight, because it's a big problem in America. People are way overweight and so and it can be for so many issues, so many different reasons. It can be that somebody just overeats or an addiction to eating, yeah, in eating disorder. It can be a thyroid issue. It can also just be when you get up there in age or metabolism slows down waking it's a little bit easier, it's a little bit more difficult to lose. Some people have tried a lot of different things. There are not only with we goovi and ozempic, but what's one of the different surgeries. There's liposuction and all of that stuff, which can all be dangerous and have side effects. Sure can surgery especially So I don't know is there are a lot of different experiences here and you can probably find it if you go online to just even google Oprah and it'll come up. But one over feels like it's the easy she says, it's the easy way out for her. That's how she felt about it. And I could get that word and somebody who's already done weight watchers and a lot of different effort. YEA, what do we have here? We have a visitation going on this week from mister Zelinski. He's the president of Ukraine. Who doesn't know that. Anybody who doesn't know that, raise your hand if you don't know who I'm talking about. Zelinski. He's in Washington again, he was at the UN. He's been up and down between Washington and in the UN the last couple of days. So he's going to end his visit by a with a visit to see President Biden again, and then he's going to go meet with some Republicans for lunch. Because the Republicans, a lot of them, are not sold And I guess, I guess I get this. Frankly, I don't know that I'm so sold on it either, because we don't know where the money's going. We don't know a lot of the stuff that we've provided to the Ukrainians has ended up. And by the way, this has been going on for nineteen months, right, it's not like this. It just shows you how bad the Russian forces are, I guess, and how bad Russian leadership is. But the other side of it is the Russians feel some they feel a victory because they've been draining our coffers. They yeah, it's us, we're paying the bill. The Europeans are not all that worked up. They help, but they're not throwing money at this the way we are. So he's been meeting with Biden in the military folks that Pentagon, going over to talk with the Republicans and the Democrats. So how much are we going to continue to give? Because yeah, it's not there's going to be a truce or anything. It's not like Poulan's just gonna be like, Okay, never mind, I'll stop. It's going to stop until he has Ukraine or Ukraine is no longer fully on the defense of just trying to protect themselves but starts invading Russia. And then one, yeah, and within were with Russia because we're paying for that. Nah, this is not there's nothing good about this at all. We don't want the Russians to win, but we don't want to be suckers. And at the moment I think we are suckers. I know that Biden has said that he is strongly with Ukraine, and he's urged when he went to the UN the other day met with a lot of world leaders and said we ought to stand strong with our friends in Ukraine. And so there are I mean, here we go again with Trump being the issue. I know he's Trump is just taking a shot at Biden. There's no value his I find is very little value to much of anything that Trump says. But in this circumstance, these people they're asking the right questions, and it does. Why should the source be you see, that's it. The source of the questions of the comments are always the thing that makes more sense, or to some people, it rallies them around more than the issue itself. What is Donald from? That's kind of like what would Jesus do? Right, It's always that's some Jesus do? Okay, Well, what would Jesus do in this case? Would he supports Zelinsky or would he not support Zelinsky? Being the humanist that he was, probably would try to stop the war. We're not trying to stop the war. We're fighting the war. It's good for business. And that's another one of these things. It's a thinly veiled secret how many of the people contributing to the war machine are American companies, and how much behind the scenes are they advocating, Yeah, we gotta give them more money so that we can sell them more planes and tanks and bomb and stuff like that, Which is, so what do we get. They get a lot out of it. Good for the military industrial complex stocks. So have you got them in your portfolio? You're probably happy about all of this. But other than that, I don't see that this is going to end well for us. I'm talking about the United States and where we are monetarily. It just don't see it. We're way too generous, and I think that that's part of being an American. It's part of what makes us great, is our practice of generosity because it's good energy. Right wherever there's help needed, we are usually the first place that governments in trouble go. They call us, we got a problem. Can you help us? No matter whether it's this kind of thing or whether it's a natural disaster. But you know that everywhere around the world, wherever there's a problem, the first call, first phone call goes to the it states, what can you do? Please help us? Because we have that abundance. Not only we have abundance in terms of dollars and that sort of thing, but we have an abundance of hearts, and we practice generosity and we give energy and money to a cause or to some the people who are in need. We do that because that's us, that's who we are. But we can go too far. There are people all over the world that need our help, not just Ukrainians. There are people in your how much I guess maybe let's bring this back to you and what it is that you do to help people. You have heard my mantra is we're all here to help. So how do you choose to help? I'm not choosing to help the Ukrainians. That's my tax money and your tax money. But I don't know. I don't like Putin, and I think the best way to end this is to put a bullet in his head, but nobody seems to have the balsam to do that. So here we go. We play this game, and it costs us billions of dollars, and at the end of the day, what are we going to have to show for it? And where's the practical side to all of this? Right? So the Russians and again the practical side is to get rid of Putin and you either oh, who's going to be behind him? It doesn't make any difference at this point. It really doesn't. We say that about Kim John Heel. You're saying about every place where he is a bad leader, Well, the person that comes behind him might be even worse. Well, okay, so maybe you handle the situation with a person that comes up behind him the same way you handle it getting rid of it. You just ye. I mean here, I am advocating the overthrow of a government, which is kind of what I'm doing. Putin is no good. Get rid of him? Who's saying that's any other country that's not involved in this really kind of can't because wouldn't that would just kind of really push World War three into the Yeah, I suppose is that what I'm advocating here? I don't know that's what I'm advoca I'm just advocating. No, No, you're not, like, come on, guys, world War three, let's see it. Hey, boys and girls, let's have another war. I'm ready for that. Nope, no, thank you, No, okay. So here's today's page from the NASA website. You're ready. I know, people say, hey, what is there? What's what's Stephen got with? There's no stock in NASA. So Why does he talk about it all the time, because there's lots of interesting, compelling things to talk about, including the latest projection as to how the United States, who would deal with an asteroid the size of the Empire state building that, according to them, could hurt the well could hit They hurt it too in one hundred and fifty nine years from now. Now, How the heck did they come up with this? Right, I don't even understand, you know they have they're watching all of this massive I think I explained yesterday how this happens, right, didn't It was that yesterday? Ja I talked about it yesterday or the day before, right when the sun's I was talking about the heat of the sun and you can't look at it and I get off under a tangents. They're all in the same orbit, and it's just how far away they are of how many how many years passed before it actually passes us. And it's not just one round like perfect circle. It's these oblong oval kind of situations. And yeah, they don't change direction, but it like if you've ever seen there's this video that's it's generated by AI, I believe, but it's a video of the sun and Earth and one of the other planets, one at a time, and it's almost like a centigraph where it the way they rotate and revolve around the Earth, and it makes these lines and they just make these beautiful, beautiful pictures. Fabulous, it's so our universe is so beautiful. It really is. It's the color of the world, the colorations. What was it again? I think yesterday the day before we were talking about the was the Aurora boreal, the Northern lights, whatever it is. Somebody had taken a flight and they got pictures off the side of the plane of these green lights and how beautiful that is. And this is the same sort of thing. Would it be beautiful if some big asteroid the size the Empire stabilently crashed into the Earth? Though probably not good. Probably I think I'll go out on a limb. This particular asteroid was discovered in nineteen ninety nine by NASA, and they've just been following it. How in the name of Heaven, Well, I guess they got the new information because the web telescope, because that's scanning the whole that's scanning the whole universe kind of in the manner of speaking, well, at least part of it. So they say, this thing traveling at twenty eight thousand miles an hour and it would crash into the Earth at about that Well, the speed would be reduced because of the atmosphere and that sort of thing. But they're also trying to figure out it's like out of a movie. Okay, let's go find let's send a let's by this time one hundred and fifty nine years from now, we should have lots of interesting space capsules and be able to do space travel. So we'll go find this thing and we'll put a parachute on it. Who'll slow it down? But how fastating is this? Not only being able to tell like, hey, in one hundred and fifty nine years, this Empire State State Building sized asteroid could hit Earth. They can pinpoint to where it will probably twenty one eighty two going into the Great Salt Lake. That's what they That's what NASA says. Yeah, so, how the heck has that? This is pretty amazing stuff? And are we going to go to sleep tonight and not sleep because we're worried about what's going to happen right now? Yeah? No, I think I'm going to be okay, sleeping tonight yeah, well, so we've had some other close encounters. I love that whole to remember Close Encounters of the third kind, that great movie. Richard Dreyfuss was in it and Melodie Dickson and it wasn't Drew Barrymore on that or she was in et which one was she? Anyway, So they still say that this particular asteroid has a slim shot of eventually hitting the Earth, but they're trying to make, you know, take precautions of it. We've had some close encounters in the last few years, but that's uh, you know, these some of these things, you use the information that they're getting used to figure out more about how our solar system was created, what four or five billion years ago, And it's just I mean, I'd find this stuff. It's just fascinating, much more fascinating than talking about the Republicans fighting with the Democrats. At least hopefully you'll find it to be somewhat that way. I'm Greg I'm sixty eight years old. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, major in business administration. I do motivational speaking in addition to substitute teaching. Part of the reasons for my motivational speaking is I kind of feel like I have a calling or giving back to the younger generation. You know, the golden rule is doing to others you'd have them doing to you. My wife, Wanda, as a senior flight attendance, has been flying for over thirty years. We do laugh quite a bit. I think most adults will start realizing that they don't recall things as quickly as they used to, or they don't remember things as vividly as they once did. I've been taking privilege for about three years now. People say to me periodical, Man, you got a memory like an alphand it's really really helped me tremendously provident, healthier brain, better life. Gregg Freeley is a paid testimonialist and real privigent user based on a clinical study of subgroups of individuals who were cognitively normal or mildly imperative. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Here's something for those of you to ponder who are all over social media. Here's a California teenager this is all over social media, rescued from a bridge after the equipment that they were using failed. They were filming a stunt This is the Forest Hill Bridge in North Auburn, California. This is pretty terrifying. Actually, this was posted on Facebook and they're telling everybody it's illegal to trespass on the bridge after this nineteen year old kid attempted to film with stunts friendly reminders swinging from the bridge. You cannot trust pass under the bridge anyway. Right, he got stuck there thirty feet from the catwalk, So what the heck? The couple of dozen firefighters first responders showed up to try to save this kid time and effort, because maybe you should have let Darwinism take its course. Yeah, is that rude? Is that wrong to say? No, No, you've you've made your own decision, made your own bed, and so all of this stuff. Anyway, there's a lot of different comments on the post praising the search and rescue teams for their work and saving him, and some of the other posts criticizing his attempt to film a dangerous stunt that is stupid. But that's the thing, lute unquote. Influencers are dying right because they're trying to do the stunts for clicks and recognition and sponsorship deals and all of this stuff, and things go wrong. The more dangerous. It's like the better of the payoff. But is the juice worth the squeeze? Is the food worth the squeeze? Oh? I like that expression. Is the juice worth the squeeze? There's something you can't You use that as a measuring stick the next time you decide you're going to do something stupid. All right, let's see here a Google has been sued for negligence. Uh, this has happened before. This is the story of a North Carolina man who died after he drove off a bridge while following Google Maps. The bridge had collapsed and Google Maps it didn't know it, so the direction sent him over the bridge, over the bridge to the other side. But he never got to the other side because the bridge had collapsed. And this guy went over the edge of the bridge and got killed. He was the father of two and his jeep plunged into the creek, and so they filed a lawsuit against Google. I don't know is that does that they have to remember something like this happening a few years ago, the same sort of thing where Google Maps brought somebody. There had been a bridge built at the end of this road, or the road was cut in half and it didn't show on a Google Maps. So it was a foggy night, nobody could see anything. This guy plows into the bridge and gets killed because Google Maps are sending them. I don't like Google Maps. I like ways. I know people have gone into like a lake or an ocean or something and again, and then a lot of people are like, well, open your eyes if it's dark and it's not well a well area, or like you can't carry foggy, you can't see you. You're kind of really just trusting this. But with today's technology, why are these kind of apps and devices not better updated with real time situations? Another story about somebody going out or washed it getting killed. The roadway gets washed out all the rain and stuff that we've had all around the country at various places, washed out roads up in Vermont. They are horrible time with that. So bridge is not maintained. Probably they collapse, wash outs, all those sorts of things, and then none of them show up on Google Maps. No, but you can tell me there's a police officer sitting up ahead in two hundred yards. You can tell me that there's an accident, like those things are always come and go, But you can't say that bridge collapsed. Is there a police officer? That's always it when you're looking at the ways confirmed as a police officer, you know, half a mile up the road of that kind of stuff. So anyway, we'll see. It'd be interesting to see where this case goes. The spokesperson for Google said, our goal is to bribe accurate, accurate rooting information. What else are they going to say? So it's great business time for Calidron. I would think the phones would be ringing off the hook and people be ordering nauseum. That's right. Okay, that's the number of Ken's office, the number four questions to be answered by Ken, you can dial in. Sometimes we save the voices, as is the case with this question from the person who dialed eight five five, one of the many eight five five nine nine nine three six eight four Hi, do you have doctor Ken? I have a fin skin and I have bags under my eyes. They're like double bags, and I have some ice packs on them now. But then I have a roller machine that you keep in the freezer, but I don't find anything that takes them away. Can you give me some advice because I'm looking old and unwrarely not old. Yes, a rowing machine in a refrigerator like that. So so what can you do for bags under the eyes before you go see the plastic surgeon? You know, I think she mentioned some cool compresses on your eyes. Those words for some people. Another thing is make sure you get enough sleep, sleep with your head raised slightly. Try to avoid drinking fluids before going to bed, and limit salt in your diet. Don't smoke, try to reduce your allergy symptoms, and avoid excessive eyelid rubbing. And you can use cosmetics sometimes they help. After all of that, there are eye surgeons who work on this. There are plastic surgeons that work in this area. You may want to talk to one or the other. All right, thank you for that call. Call anytime. We'll take your message, your question and give it to Ken when he's here. On good Day, Health eight, five, five, nine, nine, nine, thirty six eighty four. Here's a question from some astute listener. Why did it take so long for the FDA to tackle this problem with decongestants like Suda, fed Vic's day quill and all this other stuff? What? And I guess the more important question is, I mean, I'm happy to take a shot at the FDA, but I want to know, what do you use? If this stuff is no good? And it's taken them all this time to figure it out. People wasted all this money over the years. What is the way for one to dress to address the decontesting problems that we all have congestion problems. I think the answer to your second questions a lot easier. You know these saline nasal sprays, there's a number of them. You go into the grocery store or into the pharmacy. You know that that will work. But why it has taken the FDA so long to tell us that the decongest and fennel effort it's safe but not effective. Why it's taken so long? And there's probably more than two hundred and fifty over the counter items that it's in, things like DayQuil, Sudafed, Thailand, Al and therafew Flew, just to name a few. White has taken the FDA so long. You know, you'll have to ask my old mentor at Duke, Rod Califf, who outstanding cardiologists taught when I was an intern in resident there at Duke. We have to ask doctor Califf, who heads the FDA these days, why it took them so long. But let's let's commend them for at least getting it, yeah, finally getting it done. But doctor Caleff hasn't been around there that long. But you know, only he could answer the question what in the system took them so long? But hopefully they'll learn from this and change whatever systems they use that kept it there so long. One wonders whether this is a problem for other things. They need to be analyzed. That's what the ft is supposed to be doing. Obviously, that is what raises concerned. And if anything, in these days, we need more. You know, there is so much trust in institutional medicine these days, and doctor good reason, right, doctor Caleff, please adds some trust because this is an area of great need and if anyone can do it, he can. He's an amazing he must have been that very experienced to have that job in the first place, and to influence you the way he obviously has. All Right, speaking of influence, doctor kenn is here every week at this time to influence your thinking about your health.
