Memorial Day last Monday, the weekend before lots of hamburgers and hot dogs and swimming pools open. It's summertime, summertime, some some summertime, but more importantly, it's the time that we all need to honor those who died while fighting in the armed forces. This is not the same Veterans Days to honor all those who had a uniform on Memorial Day or Decoration days. It's known it was called Decoration Day after the Civil War, where members of families would place flowers on the graves of both Union and Confederate soldiers. But it's sort of yeah, yeah, it's the unofficial start of summer, but that's not really what it's all about. That's what most see. We have not done a good job of teaching this either in our schools, because schools seem to be always more politically correct. One of the things Day that people may not understand is the number more Americans died in the Civil War than any other war. That Americans have ever been involved in six hundred and twenty four thousand soldiers were killed over those four years. It's just when you think about it, it's why because of slavery, because you couldn't get along. And here we have the same problems as I was pointing out earlier in the program black and White, right, and so what we have here are what's that line? What we have here is a failure to communicate. I don't think we communicate well with each other about these sorts of things. So that's part of it. And it's not even only black and white. People hate people because they are Hispanic, or because it's a Jewish or we saw a lot of arise in Asian hate crimes over the last few years. Yep. Yeah, disgusting frankly. So do you know what it means on Memorial Day the flag is at half staff all around the country. Supposed to be a time when we think about all of the men and women, not just I'm thinking I'll just give you the number as to how many people died in the Civil War, but all together, Americans who have died the impact of the lives of millions of men and women who are given their lives for Well, we're told it was for our country. You know that's not really true if you get down to brass tacks. Vietnam was about nothing to do with our country. And the same is true with Iraq Afghanistan. You know, you can say, well, we had to get the people who were responsible for September eleventh. Yeah, I think, but that's why you should have gone to Afghanistan. There was no proof ever even to this day, that Iraq was involved in September eleventh. As a matter of fact, if you're going to attack somebody, you should attack Saudi Arabia. But we didn't because of our oil relationship with them. All of the people who were involved in September eleventh, to the last man, all nineteen of them were from Saudi Arabia. They were not from Iraq. So anyway, but I don't want to I don't want to get that into the mix here. Then you think about Memorial Day as the beginning of the holidays, summertime. Look at the price of gasoline now, how it's stinging right now? Right? Listen to the stuff is well, it's not as bad as it has been lastly, No, but it's not great. The average at the end of the year was like two ninety something. The average for the past year has been three oh four. But we already see it up much higher than it has been for a number of years since COVID. Actually, so two three years has been since I filled up the other day. It was four and a half four dollars and fifty cents. Yeah a gallon we are paying I paid. As matter of fact, I filled up for three forty four I think is what I paid her three forty nine yesterday. Yeah. Listen, and you look at all of the things that are represented by what gasoline does and how we use it. I actually got into this, this big thing about electric cars. I'm going to take a side street here the whole impact of electric cars. As to what's going on. There's a group of scientists led by the Department of Energy at Purdue University that are studying bio fuels because in the Midwest, we hopefully consider the Midwest is still an important part of the United States. It's not just the East Coast. It's not just the West Coast. We kind of forget about Middle America, which is where most of the action is. Frankly and so on. Farms and in states where there are farms, the farm fact is that tractors powered by electricity are a non starter, if you'll pardon the pun. There is not a tractor that's built big enough to have a battery that's strong enough to last for the number of hours that would be needed to keep them working through the day, and just that farmers don't like them anyway, for any number of reasons. So what they're doing is looking into biofuels and where that will be. And I saw something I think I mentioned it in an earlier hour. I think maybe yesterday I talked about the whole idea of biofuels, the whole idea of US as a country not accepting electric cars because the idea of having more electric plants to be able to make the energy to charge up the electric cars, they're not there. They're not available. It's especially in places like California with a big egg contingencies, and also the big cities, and the fact that they're mandating electric cars by twenty thirty whatever, How do you think they're going to be powered on a hot summer day when there's so much of a challenge against the electric grid to begin with. So the fact that the electric car has gathered this kind of momentum based on really foolishness. And now here's a new survey. You'll love this one, Jay. Pedestrians are twice as likely to be hit by electric cars gas powered ones. So you're twice as likely to be hit by a car that you can't hear. And that makes sense, right, you can't hear the electric car. It's you know, all of a sudden it's there. So are people not practicing look both ways before you cross the street, No, no way, Busy on their phone scrolling through Instagram? Yeah, exactly. So Anyway, I was going off a little bit on a tangent there, but I think happy Memorial Day weekend is certainly a part of our mantra today. Number one, say happy with given what it is about, do we say happy Memorial Day? No? I think you hear people saying that. But yeah, if you get down to the real nitty gritty of what it is all about, why would you say happy Memorial Day, have a good weekend? Maybe what is the Yeah, that's a great thing. Was So what's the proper greeting? Then that's a good question, say, is it just acknowledging like it's Memorial Day, we honor, we honor those, and we thank those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. What's the proper greeting for Memorial Day weekend? What do you say to people acknowledging that this weekend is a very sober reality in America? It is eleventh September eleventh statement comes to mind, the never forget phrase, don't forget Memorial Day. Yeah, all right. US News and World Report has ranked the top best places to live in the United States. You want to know what this is Number one. I thought it would be something Midwest or you know, mid South, someplace like that where the air is clean and the living is easy. Number one city, according to the rankings in US News and World Report is Nate, Florida. Naples, Florida tops the list of the best places to live in the United States. Job market, weather, availability of homes, that sort of stuff. They have a very strong job market there. Unemployment is two percent, so that fits the bill when it comes to that sort of thing. The Gulf Coast is kind of easy temperature wise, they don't have the real heat that's some on the east side of Florida, for example. It's just kind of a cool place to check out, so you're looking around. It's a great retirement community too for a lot of folks. Naples, Florida number one in America. All right. So if we look at the trending lists, a couple of names on the list. One of them is Cape Middleton, the wife of the Prince in England. There's a new portrait of her. She's the Princess of Wales, and so far this portrait has drawn strong reactions kind of the same stuff that we are. I guess I wouldn't have probably talked about this at all were it not for being in this segment of the program. There's a you know, the reactions, the critics, if you will, YadA, YadA, YadA. This the portrait's been out for about a week. And there's a new portrait also of her father in law, King Charles, that didn't get received well either, all right, commissioned by what one of the really worst magazines in England called Tattler. So what would you expect to come. They don't like the portraits of that. It doesn't even look like if you saw it, because it's a painting. And if you saw this painting and nobody told you who this was about, you would not you would not say that's Kate. No, Nope, they didn't capture anything about her at all. The Princess of Wales, a portrait of strength and dignity. No, I would say, that's not what this is all about at all. But you know, again, this is one of these outfits that just loved to what And the Brits are I want to say great at this, but the Brits are among the peoples of the planet. They love their gossip. They can be really nasty and it just is is for what reason? Why what do you have to be angry about Helone? Just it's a beautiful portrait. It absolutely is stunning. It's just not her. That is not her in that photo. And then King Charles who he had it was done by the same artists his portrait which he actually posed for and it looks a lot more like him. But people just didn't like it because they thought it was too artistic. M yeah, too artistic, right, that is hell all right. Next name in the news that's trending his era Rogers Aaron Rodgers explaining this week why he decided to keep playing football instead of joining Robert F. Kennedy's ticket as his running mate on the campaign trail. He plays for the Jets. Most people know that. I think was at a press conference for the team talking about what's going on this fall, and he was asked by somebody in the news media about Robert F. Kennedy and said he still supports Kennedy, but he's choosing cleats over politics. He said, quote, I love Bobby Kennedy. We had a couple of really nice conversations. Really know well, there were two options, he said. It was to retire and be his vice president or keep on playing. And I wanted to keep playing, and so anyway he didn't. He have some problems last year. It tore his achilles heel or something, and that would have perhaps put him out anyway, but he said he was happy playing. You'll get back to it. He was grateful for Kennedy to check in with him and to offer him the position, but it's just not him. So anyway, the whether he's going to be at one hundred percent or not. I guess remains to be seen as the playoff. But he's getting near retirement, so he doesn't want to waste any time and he wants to keep going as long as he can. Tennessee is going to be the first state to cover the cost of baby diaper expenses. They have a state medicaid program, so anything of that jay baby diaper expenses. All right, here's a kind of an interesting story about a woman who was found living in a grocery store sign. And you could say, huh what. This woman lived in Mexico, in Mexico, good in Michigan, and she'd been living in a store sign for about a year. She said it was her safe spot. A contractor performing maintenance work on this supermarket opened up a small door in the back of the sign and was greeted by a woman, so they called a police. There appeared to be some flooring that was laid down and a desk. She had a mini desk, clothing and a coffegg coffee maker. I love it. Yeah, good for so anyway, thirty four year old woman not identified and why do we need to know what her name is? Anyway, she wasn't they're not charging her with anything. It wasn't clear at all as to how she got up there. She was referred to by the police as the roof Ninja. Here's another name in the news this week. Zang Zon sounds like somebody who ought to be on FBI International Right. A citizen journalist self described he was released from prison this week after serving four years for charges related to reported to reporting on COVID in Wuhan. The Chinese grabbed him, they put him in jail. They didn't want what he knew this will by the time, she thought that it was only going to be like eight days and then she would be released. And now how many years later, Well, because she was onto the story. So now hopefully she'll some magazine will hire her to tell the real story of what happened, which she was onto in Wuhan. Chinese put her in jail because they didn't want her to tell the story. The reality is that the Chinese were responsible for COVID and so this is the hopefully people will wake up to this, the people who still think that China is a okay wrong. They charged her with quote unquote provoking trouble. Yeah. I know, though there are a lot of things that we complain about here in the US and things that we wish we could change, But we are not being imprisoned for quote unquote provoking trouble. And if that were the case, you and I would both be under arrest. Right. All right, let's start some trouble ready, Let's be provoking trouble. There is a big to do here. And I'm happy to talk about this at length with Jennifer Horn when she's here, because we talk a lot more about politics when she's around, because that seems to be her mainstay. But this is something that I agree with the Republicans on one hundred percent. This week they have started focusing on voting by non citizens, and I think earlier on in one of our earlier hours this weekend and this past week, talking about this legislation which has been introduced to crack down on voting by non citizens, an effort to so doubts about the election outcome. That's what the Democrats say, I say, you're on the right path. I think that there's a bill apparently that would roll back a law allowing non citizen residents of Washington to vote in local elections. How dare they come up with that sort of well, how dare they? I mean, get down to the brass tacks of it. These people are not citizens. You don't have to you know, even the way the lackadaisical many states like Massachusetts and California, you don't have to show proof of identifications. Say okay, here's my name and is where I live, and that's how I have to show. And so in this circumstance, it's more of an up yours than anything else I've seen for a long time, frankly. And yet the Democrats think, oh, yeah, we got to let everybody vote. No, we don't. We need to make sure that the people who vote are legitimate. And that's what one of the that's one of the causes for you know, having problems with elections frankly, and the outcome of elections. So food for thought here. The new and brings us lettuce microgreens. Already there is some the beets and ground stuff that you get early in the season is around now, very cool stuff. Yeah, and anybody who's I know a lot of people complain about the high price of produce and all of that and veggies, but when you're buying fruits and vegetables in season, they're a lot cheaper because they're already there and prevalent, as opposed to actually having to travel from somewhere where the climate is you know, can have them as easily available. Right. The bottom line is that if you look around, if your health is in well being, in your family's health and well being is important to you, you'll find this stuff around. It's just there. He's got to look for it. And so we move into something that will affect a lot of people, whether it's on the farm or your family's your own home. The weed killer that's around, that's been around from Bear, which owns mind Santo this. They have been sued by some states in our country. The fight here is against the cancer that is caused by the stuff that's being made by Bear, mostly roundup. They have one hundred and seventy thousand lawsuits right now. They have now the original set aside was five billion dollars to settle a case cases. Now it's sixteen billion dollars that's been set aside. The company says that all of these people fighting them is it's not gonna they can't survive. Well, why the hell do they keep making roundup? Then they're looking. They go from state to state looking to state lawmakers for relief, and they failed in several states already, but they keep going. They've spent millions of dollars lobbying for legislation that could have blocked the legal arguments. The trial's going on in Missouri and Iowa and Idaho. Almost all of the people who are victims are folks who have worked on the farm or have ownership and farms and use it as application on the fields to keep the weeds from growing. The North American Crop Science division of Monsanto, they're focused on the manufacturing facility as well and the mines from which the key ingredients come from. And so they had enough strength to influence the Iowa House and the Missouri House, but they failed ultimately in the states where they were fighting. So now they're going to push again during next year's legislative sessions because these states, many of the states they only had briefed there have full time legislative sessions. They have two three four months and then they adjourn for the next to the next year. So anyway, they have so much money and they're fighting this stuff. The head of Bear's Crop science division says, quote, this is really about the crop protection tools that farmers need to secure production. They do not need round up. There are many other ways. I don't use any of this stuff on my corn a fields. Actually, I have. One of my friends developed a device which burns the weeds, and there are a lot. There's three or four different designs of this that you can use. The thing actually goes up and down the roads when you cultivated and burns the weeds that are there. Certainly much better, much healthier. Roundup's been around for fifty years. Jay, that's hard to belime it is. It reduces tillings, so they say, reduces soil erosion. It's great for corn and soybeans, cotton. It modifies the seeds, that's what round up does. Doesn't just kill them, it keeps them from growing again. But GLFHO sate, which is the number one key ingredient, causes cancers like non Hodgkins lymphoma, which is very serious. So that's why they've been sued as much as they have. EPA said that it is not carcinogenic. If you use this stuff the way it's directed, well, you know what, it's your fault if you get it, if you right, And that's the federal government. So you can see how much they've been influenced by the lobbyist. Yeah, it's going to be bad for business. Yeah, right, exactly. I always say this just to sort of put things into perspective. Bear is the name that they gave the company after World War Two. It is this company that designed and built which is responsible for the gas that they used to kill the Jews.
