The Duck Stephen. Good Day Download with Doug and Jay Kirshner is made possible in part by Kellatran, which is the safe way for you to lose weight and keep it off, and also by Privigent keeping your brain healthy. It is a Thursday, the Thursday, the last Thursday of June, the twenty ninth of June, and here we are Jay Kirshner and Doug Stephen with you to work our way through the issues of the day, the things that matter, the people talking about stuff, bringing featured players. People ask me all the time, Jay, what is this program about? And it's good when people who don't know about the program ask me what it's about. Not so good when people who listen all the time say, Hey, what the heck is this program all about? Your answer, what is this program all about? I think that the most apt way of describing the program is that is about things that matter to you and to me and to hopefully the people who are listening. And after thirty how many years? What is nineteen eighty So it's thirty almost thirty six years of this particular program and various incarnations being on the air. It is about things that matter. People are interested sometimes it's better suited to certain realities than others, but it does need to talk about what the realities are in life and with people how to fix things. But I often say and mostly focus on issues from a woman's perspective. I think I give that perspective to a point, but I think you do. And I wonder whether you think as you're thinking, or are we being too deliberate, or is it just that your thoughts would be different as a woman than mine would be as a man about some of the trends and the things that people need to know. They want to know what the facts are, so those don't change whether it's a man or a woman. But the opinions that we have, the commentary that we have about these things, I might be a little bit different and they don't have to agree, or they might be a lot different. Yeah. Yeah, And even from a woman's standpoint, there are times where my husband and I we get looks because sometimes I fall more into the stereotypical guy way of thinking, where he is the female way of thinking, and vice versa. But also we bring different generations to it, just different mindsets opinions. But I think the great thing about this is that we genuinely have love and respect for each other. So even if we have differing opinions, then there's still a proper way of communication where a lot of times, a lot of shows people don't actually like each other and you can hear it. Sometimes sometimes you can't tell, but until they disagree on something and then all of a sudden, it's like the conversation stops. And what kind of conversation is fun if you agree on everything? At that point, just have a monologue with yourself, that's right, all right? So let's apply the rules or what we think is going on here to the situation that you find yourself suffering from that smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Eighty million people in this country are under air quality alerts as we speak because once again the millions of acres that are in jeopardy affecting millions of lives in America. So how does it affect you? What is going on? You have had some things that were a challenge to begin with in terms of the respiratory stuff. Well, I have severe asthma anyway, even on my healthiest days, and currently I am dealing with bronchitis and pleursy. So I am actually sick. And then yesterday the Cleveland you sound it, Oh, thank you, I feel like I do. Oh, I actually feel really good today, aside for my lungs they are just shot, but I'm writing my rescue and hail are very hard and I have this breathing treatment sitting next to me. But the air quality in Cleveland went it was dangerous. It was straight up the levels of dangerous yesterday that they were saying even healthy people will feel this. Nobody go outside unless you need to. And if you do have to go outside to just to get in your car or travel somewhere, wear a mask while you are outside. But even in the house, you can feel you can you can smell it. You can you can feel it in the air because if you have chimneys and they are not fully enclosed, that's what was still coming in yes And fortunately it's not as bad today. It's still in the it's not quite in the dangerous levels, but it's still in the levels of if you have any breathing issues, respiratory issues, stay inside. You're going to feel this. Healthier people, it's not going to be like it was yesterday. So under the circumstances when you think about what you're breathing. We had the same thing here I think it was two weeks ago. Because these fires from Nova Scotia now moved across into more Montreal and Quebec. The and it keeps moving west, so it doesn't get as far as the wheatlands of Saskatchewan and Alberta. But the fire, the two hundred and fifty three fires that are burning out of control, now that's an amazing number. And so you wonder they've never had a problem like this in Canada ever, at least not in the recorded history. So what do we do those of us or you who live in Iowa and Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, Maryland, even in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, North Carolina, all and the air has been because of the cloud literally the heaviness of the precipitates. Can I make a word of precipitates precipitatory. I was going to use that, the precipitation, the heaviness of the clouds. We've had rain here where I am every day except I think two or three days. So we've had twenty four, twenty five days of rain in the month of June, and that makes things heavy in and of itself. Yeah, because everything gets kept down because of the cloud cover. So anyway, the current projections show the highest concentration of smoke will push across. The good news is that it's pushing across, so probably by tomorrow as the air cleans in the North East. Anyway, it'll go from being really dangerous, which is what it is now, to being moderately dangerous. And so it's not there's nothing about this that's it's pleasant for sure, And yeah, a lot of people are challenged, particularly children with weakened immune systems, the elderly who have problems with lung conditions and heart conditions, and so people will definitely die because of this and have done. That's a good point. So if you have an elderly neighbor, elderly neighbors, any one who lives by themselves, check on them. Yeah, right, exactly, all right, now we've taken care of that with that experience, and it's good to have that experience. I don't know that I want to have the experience. Sometimes when we tell stories, we talked about what's going on from the perspective of what's happened to us. I have not ever been in a situation where I have felt that I was going to die. Well, it's not try. I was in an airplane once going through a tornado. I thought maybe not that, Oh goodness, But here I am talking about it, So it's okay. The situation with the implosion of that sub the debris they brought ashore and it's filled with all of the remains of the people who were in the ship when it imploded. They died instantly, So it wasn't like but knowing they must have known. That's the horrible thing when you well, I don't know. It seems like something when something like that happens, it happens before the brain even to recognize what's recognizes what's happening. Yeah, maybe you would hope that that would be the case. But man, we've all seen the pictures in the video probably of the of the tarp, yeah, when we're bringing them in. And then of course there were so many different people doing videos floating around on social media. Here's what happens with an implosion using um a soda can model lan or there were some with trains and it was under like less than two percent of the pressure that the submersive had. But just to kind of showcase exactly what happens with an implosion, and it is, I mean, it definitely looks like one of those things. When it happens, it happens like faster than a click of the fingers. M ha. Been. So this is a ten this this thing's been going on now for ten days. That is going through the worry and then the challenges of understanding what went on, trying to bring this stuff back up the people who were related to those This is the important part of this. Yeah, we all kind of know what happened. It's not didn't take any real genius to figure out that the ship was not properly fitted. It wasn't designed properly to withstand all of that pressure. Well, that specific one had gone down numerous Yeah, it's been down before, yes and right, and it was like the upkeep apparently wasn't there. But to see all of these people coming out of the woodwork saying that they had to take it on that specific they had a seat on that submersible and they just felt like it wasn't right, or when they were looking into it more, they felt like it just wasn't going to be safe, and so many people pulled out at almost nearly a last minute situation, Yeah, because they just they felt it wasn't safe. And then the mother who lost her husband and her nineteen year old child, that seat was hers, but her nineteen year old wanted to go so badly, and apparently the father and the son had an amazing relationship. They were basically best friends until the end, and so she was like, Okay, this will be a great experience for him. And that just the devastation of that loss, but then also that guilt that she's going to carry with her. Yeah, well, he can't do much about that. You forgive yourself. And you think the reason that she did it was yeah, yeah, well but there was that love. There was a love there, and so I did it because I loved him and he wanted to be with his dad. And you know, at the end, the traveling that they're doing now, wherever it is, it is together. That may sound a little bit over the top, but I believe that there, well, there's a spiritual component to all of our lives. Whether you acknowledge it or not remains to be seen. It doesn't mean that it isn't there just because you don't believe that it isn't there. A lot of people don't believe in a lot of things that are true. For whatever the reason. I was watching a last night. We had a really busy day. Every day for me is busy. And it was about eight thirty five, eight forty when I stopped and came home and had some soup, and I turned on the television and there was a There was a Rock Hudson documentary about his life, what he went through, the fact that he was gay and nobody wanted to acknowledge that, and at the end when he got AIDS and it was really falling apart. He had been very close friends with Missus Reagan. And as much as I say I liked the Reagan years, that whole business about not wanting to touch or be around anybody who had AIDS and what it did to the people who got it just all right. The discussion of peanut butter whiskey, there is is it peanut butter that tastes like whiskey or is it whiskey that tastes like peanut butter, or could it be both? And what would it taste like? I'm guessing day you've had you tasted whiskey that tastes like peanut butter. I've sampled that. I mean, it definitely tastes like peanut butter and it burns like whiskey, and I question why, but I think a lot of people like to put it mix it with grape juice. But then you had mentioned you saw something about actual peanut butter that is either whiskey flavored or it has whiskey in it. So is this something where it's just whiskey flavored, like sometimes you have the salted caramels and chocolate and the caramel is barrel aged and a whiskey barrel or whatever, so it has a little bit of the flavor, but there's no actual whiskey. Or is this peanut butter that you spread it on toast and you're not going to get drunk. That's a good question. Well, after we've flore that further. Right now, though, it's time to explore what's going on with Madonna, who is in the hospital and there are a lot of people that are very concerned about her because she's in the intensive care unit. She used to be really good shape, kind of muscular, and now she's just skin and bones. Well, I think she saws a lot of muscle cook because she dances when she gets on stage. You have to have the muscle and the stamina to be able to do that night after night. But she Yeah, she's apparently been in the hospital since the weekend, is expecting a several days stay. People close to her say that she's expected to make a full recovery. Her health is improving. She still remains in the ICU unit under medical care. But it's just this really serious, supernarly bacterial infection, and she's had to postpone her tour. She's sixty four years old, which I'd find mind boggling. You know, you remember when she was just a kid. Frankly, so is there a warning here? I guess maybe that would be part of the question. Whatever it was that caused this bacterial infection. There's a lot of stuff in the air. But when you allow yourself to be emaciated or whatever has happened to her for whatever the reason, who knows how long she waited before she got sought medical help, because a lot of times anymore, we don't go right away. We're just so used to kind of being sick. That's you telling that threat. Travel far enough and you meet yourself. Think about that. If you're traveling, you're going around. If you travel far enough, that is, if you experience enough in life, you will find yourself again. You will you hopefully found yourself. You're in a place where you know what you are about, what your life is about, what means, what means something to you. But if you have enough experiences, you come back around to and all the meaning maybe of life sounds a little bit like Star Wars, but it is thinking of Star Wars. I think the Indiana Jones movie starts tonight. A lot of people excited about that, including yours. Truly, I'm very much looking forward to seeing the next sight. And I don't want to think he's only eighty. He could do another maybe in a couple of years. You know. They say it's the last one, but then if it does well to the box office, somebody's going to create. They've been trying to find people like that she La buff La buff whatever his name was. In the second or third one, they said, ah, he'll be the next Indiana Jones. And no, he's no arison for it. And he's sure Zec was no Indiana Jones and so anyway, it'll be fun to see how it impacts the weekend because this traditionally Fourth July is a big weekend for people going to movies, like to go to the if nothing else and go to the movie stay cool. If you're in places like where James is down in Dallas, the Southeast, I'm sure business in the movie theaters has been big there because people just want to go to get cool much as anything else. So let's see how that shakes out. There are new announcements being made. You know, we have talked a lot about electric cars. I'm not a fan making electric try I'm not a fan of that. We have the idea of making electric trains. They already well in a manner was speaking, there are electric trains, and not the way they've been designed or the more recent incarnations of them. But then there's the idea of an electric plane. Now anything I can get, I'm okay, I don't. I don't want one, and I'm not interested in, you know, going down that road for myself. But if is all the discussion continues in the next thirty years. There are many people who are predicting that the airlines will be running. The supersonic stuff is coming in the next three to five years back again like it was, and maybe I'm a little more used a little bit more regularly. And then we had with the British Airways Concord. And it wasn't the issue with the Concord that it was just so expensive to maintain. Well, it was the four It was built by Airbus, and at that time Airbus wasn't building good planes and the fact that some of those lasted thirty years was amazing because they were just I rode in one once I came across from London to New York. Once toward the end of the I've told that story. I was sitting next to Paul McCartney, who had a great three and a half hour ride. I talked about everything under the sun. But it wasn't other than the fag. It was fast. There was nothing about it that was comfortable. It's like being one of those little regional jets. It just was cramped, and I don't know, I never thought it was a great experience they have them getting fast and having the ability to sit next to Paul McCartney and yact with him for a while, but now, the announcement was made yesterday that an aircraft assembly outfit is quietly building electric taxis to fly. They want to use these. They look like a bug and they say they will glide above the urban buildings. Matter of fact, there's a picture of one. Uh. The idea is to give you an example of what it's going to do, and it's flying over the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Sets yeah. Right, here's George Jetson down down. And in Singapore, there is a plan for electric flying taxis. Uh, the electric water taxis right now. Um, they're you know, they're they're flying this and they're flying that. These people that are in some of the stuff you've seen like a helicopter kind of combination of a drone a helicopter and you can put passengers in these. That's what the flying taxis look like if you're wondering. And a lot of the of a lot of emergency services are looking at these things to save lives. Right. So anyway, there's that Delta had a little problem yesterday speaking of things that fly or don't. Uh. The plane that had taken off from it was on its way down south, I think from Atlanta and had a land at Charlotte because the landing gear didn't work and there were people they this was like a movie. They flew the plane over the tower at the airport so the guys in the tower could look up at the plane and see if there was a landing gear that was down, and it wasn't, but they still landed. The thing. The indication for the pilots was nose gear unsafe on the I was gonna say the dashboard on the control panel in the plane. So as they looked, what do you do? There are there in some planes you can crank the gear down by hand, but in this circumstance, apparently the seven seventeen, which is the revived version, the last version of the MD eighty, which was a DC nine. The plane had three different incarnations, kind of like the seven thirty seven. The seven seventeens, the last of them were ordered. There were ninety six of them that were building. He listened to me, here I am, I'm going to go down into the weeds for a second. But the seven seventeen, it was those three versions of the same plane had three seats on one side and two on the other. That's how you know what the plane was all about. So TWA ordered ninety six of them, and then two three years later they went bankrupt and they sold them all. Most of them went to a company called air Train, which existed for another two or three years, and then Delta bottom all and Delta has been running them doing the shorthaul stuff out of Atlanta, mostly a couple of their other hubs, but mostly they go to the medium sized cities out of Atlanta. And so this plane was on its way. I think it was on its way to some Florida city. It wasn't. It wasn't. It wasn't clear to me where it was going, but it wasn't the important part of the story. The important part of the story was that it didn't have a landing year and the thing landed safely. Nobody get hurt. And so it's tonight when you have a story like that and everybody walks away, thank you, it's beautiful. It reminds me of that one story that it was actually a commercial, but it floats around social media all the time because people thought it was real. It was. It was done so well. It was for niece on the Nisan Frontier truck and it's a plane and the landing gear fails on the front and so the plane basically lands on the truck's bed as the truck is driving at smatching speeds. And it was shot like it was a breaking news story, and you have the announcers talking about how like, let's give a moment of silence, and the one is saying, like you can just it's the spaded breath, and then all of a sudden, the other one starts talking and still going through, and then you hear people in the background cheering, and it was done. It still floats around social media and it looks like an actual news story and it's a commercial for Nissan. Yeah, say that's really. Those are the good advertising agencies. They know how to do that sort of thing. All right, let's bring ourselves back to land, and I'm going to relay an experience I had with this company as part of the story. You and I, the taxpayers in America bailed out a lot of companies during COVID. One of them was Yellow Freight, which combined with Roadway Express. You've probably seen these trucks. They usually travel dual their dual tandem short bodied freight boxes basically, and they travel all over that it's a national company. They got seven hundred million dollars during the pandemic to keep working, to keep you continue to deliver. It was never a well run. And I'll give you the example. I think I've talked about this on the air. Early this year, my son decided that he was going to redo his front lawn on his house in Hollywood. So he said, Dad, do you think we could get some of the Eastlea from the farm Eastley compost? And I looked at him at first, said are you crazy? And he said no, no, I'd like to have a piece of home here. And so I said, okay, well I'll figure it out. And so I put together a pallette of compost to wait about twenty five hundred pounds and strapped it all together, and I called a freak guy that I know, and he sent the what they're also called their latest incarnation was y RC, which was Yellow Roadway Company. That's what I think the y RC stood for. So anyway, they came out with a truck and picked up the palette and proceeded to deliver it to my son in California. Except after the guy who was the the I don't know what they call these guys, these the jobbers, kind of the freight arrangers. So he said it to take a week to get from east coast to west coast. So that's fine. It's twelve hundred dollars to shift the stuff. And then after a week goes by. I said to Brennan, have you gotten this note? All right? So we call oh, yeah, it's going to be delivered tomorrow. Well tomorrow came and went and then went and went and went, and so after two weeks, I said, come on, what's going on? I want my money back. They didn't know where it was. They couldn't find it, twenty five hundred pound palette. They didn't know where it went. They lost it and it found its way to a It had gone to California and then brought back to Phoenix and it was sitting in the Phoenix in the Phoenix depot. And so they finally got it. It took a month to get And this is why I tell you the story, because it was y RC. They're terrible and so they don't know how to run at having trouble of the unions, and it looks like you and I are going to eat seven And I had to median dollars. That's pretty much the bottom line. I'm Greg. I'm sixty eight years old. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio major in business administration. I do motivational speaking in addition to substitute teaching. Part of the reasons for my motivational speaking is I kind of feel like I have a calling or giving back to the younger generation. You know, the golden role is doing to others you'd have them doing to you. My wife, Wanda, is a senior flight attendance, has been flying for over thirty years. We do laugh by the bed. I think most adults will start realizing that they don't recall things as quickly, say used to, or they don't remember things as vividly as they once did. I've been taking priviging for about three years now. People say to me periodical, man, you got a memory like an alpha. It's really really helped me tremendously, providing healthier brain, better life. I've said this many times. Go to a good astrologer and get your the various the sun sign, the moon sign, and what time you were born your rising sign. Yeah, and find out who you really are. I posted at my own Facebook page Facebook dot com sport slash Dug Stephen the following It reads, It's time to just be happy. Being angry, sad and overthinking isn't worth it anymore. Just let things flow. Be positive, and especially if you're looking at things the trouble you or things that you can't do much about. Right. You can't do much about what's going on in Ukraine, you can't do much about Donald Trump. It's just you know, if you want to be happy for the rest of your life, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. So that's with a smile in my voice, I say, oh that all right. So we've asked on our social media how will you be spending Independence Day? I prefer that to the fourth of July because it really tells you what the day is all about. It is everywhere has a fourth of July fourth, it's on the calendar. Yeah, but here, all right, so let's see what are you gonna do. Michael Selby says he's going to be working. What does he do? What do we don't know? What he does? What do you do? Michael, it's gonna be We'll be on the air alive on yep. Kelly, Oh yeah, she is, I'm seeing that. Yeah, let's see here. Steve Rand says he's staying indoors to keep the cats calm. Well, you know that's something I neglected to probe this with the Warren Eckstein and his weekly visit with us. I usually do to remind everybody at the fourth of July keep your dogs as far away from the noise as possible. It's like lightning in thunder. Dogs don't like it. Cats don't like it either, but dogs mostly, And so it's really you know, this is the only way to be kind to your friends is to keep them calm and away from any kind of causternation caused by fireworks and explosions. Yeah. Well, this is the time of year when most fur babies go missing because they're terrified. Okay, they run away. A lot of people keep them outside, thinking that they're just going to sit next to them. Even if there's a fence, there might be a hole in the fence. Sometimes even like they're inside, make sure they stay inside. There are a lot of people who have commented there, I was just looking at that. Yeah, a lot of them, John Melissa, their dogs hunkering down with their cats. And it also kind of keep in mind too, not just the fur babies, but veterans who might be struggling with PTSD. Who are your neighbors? And nobody only blows off the backyard fireworks on the fourth of July. It's the third of July, and it's the second of July, and it's the first of July, and it's the fifth of July. It happens for almost an entire week, and just kind of be conscious of your neighbors and where I was living, blowing off I wrecks in the backyard wasn't the only thing. People would shoot guns. People would just shot the guns right up into the air and those bullets fall, those bullets fall down someplace going please yep, I am having having for the first time in a long time fireworks here and framing him. We'll have our ice cream bus there and it'd be interesting because I think it'd be thousands of people celebrate. It'll all be controlled and supervised, so that's a good thing. So it's great business time for Caldron. I would think the phones would be ringing off the hook and people will be ordering nauseum. That's right. You know. Good day Health Time with doctor Ken Cronhouse, who is here to answer some important questions. I would remind you that Ken, as a preventative cardiologist, has lots of exciting things to share with his patients, and you can become one by calling Late Cardiology at three five two seven three five fourteen hundred to check in with him. Not only about what's going on in your heart circulatory system, but just medicine in general. I was looking back at one of our former one of our podcasts or downloads discussing my sister's heart event and how she's doing. That's part of this download. And by the way, she seems to be fine after the procedure. A week later they went to England, she and her husband. So it can have been. You know, it wasn't the end of the world. Thank heavans could have been. I suppose if that stuff's not treated, it becomes a real problem and you can become as others as statistic. Also on this most recent podcast and download, we talk about the testing for LDL cholesterol and how to diagnose premature heart disease. There are a lot of these things that are on the market now. So anyway, all the Good Day Health Show podcasts are available free at Goodday Healthshow dot com or wherever you get your podcasts. So there is a statistic around that people are curious about, ken the number of pedestrian deaths. This is I guess, I don't know this is a health issue. It seems to be a common sense issue that people are running across super highways or doing other stupid stuff and it's taking its toll because of the high numbers. Right, Well, yes, is it my imagination? Are you noticing it that people are just too many people are driving recklessly, more recklessly than they have in the past. I think there's too many people period. You don't have to go any further than that. We have too many people in this country and in this world, and we can't control them. And they're a lot of selfish people who drive really erratically and they cause all kinds of problems. They're not paying attention to their driving because they're on their damn device. So somebody walks out in the street. Not that that's very smart either, because they're usually on the device and they get bumped off. It's a double whammy. Yes, And the reasons you mentioned it seems like there's more aggressive driving, there's more speeding, there's more distraction by texting and all of what you're describing, the more drug use out there. But the results of the Governor's Highway Safety Association out this week is that more than seven thousand, five hundred people were killed last year after being struck by vehicles while walking along or across US roadways the most pedestrian deaths in more than four decades. Very Sun, Very, it's crazy. All right, let's talk about anxiety disorders. On the Good Day Health program this week, we discussed the wearing of the watch, whether that increases stress or not. There are a lot of people that are anxious over any number of things. So how would we best be screened or how should it be done? Who would be the person or persons that would do it, and who should be screened well? This is reported in the journal American Medical Association this week. For the first time ever, the nation's time Panel of preventive health Experts has recommended that doctors routinely screen all adult patients under sixty five for anxiety. The evidence now shows that anxiety screening can help those patients find peace of mind. And this is the US Preventive Services Task Force, which we have interacted within the past, and they, whatever you think about it, they have huge impact on what the insurers approve or don't improve for all of us as healthcare users. So this is very important and how do you do it? Just taking a good history is helpful, But you know, I like this information coming out of you know, the universe the Mound Sini Medical School in New York, where you can do it with this wearable device that we're using in our practice. It's a great way to measure in addition to screening for Frank anxiety. And usually the screening that occurs is by history taking doctors, asking questions about it and getting it out there because talk to patients, you know, they want to talk about this. This is a big deal. Now, I've been in practice thirty five years. I've never seen the anxiety higher. Yeah.
