And here in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, a group 14 00:01:00.759 --> 00:01:07.280 of women from Phillips Petroleum Company decided they wanted to make some changes. Now, 15 00:01:07.319 --> 00:01:12.159 remember at that time, Phillips was a small oil company in a small 16 00:01:12.200 --> 00:01:17.120 town. They were about twenty years old at that time. Well, just 17 00:01:17.200 --> 00:01:23.079 one block east of Phillips was a competitor, another old company, City Service, 18 00:01:23.239 --> 00:01:29.200 which was a rival in business, social and civic status. Well, 19 00:01:29.840 --> 00:01:34.280 that company had already organized a women's club. It was called the Doherty Girls 20 00:01:34.319 --> 00:01:42.519 Club. So Phillips Petroleum Company women decided we need a women's club. So 21 00:01:42.640 --> 00:01:49.280 they set out and the company was very supportive. And at that time this 22 00:01:49.359 --> 00:01:56.120 community was like a family, and everybody referred to Frank Phillips as Uncle Frank, 23 00:01:57.040 --> 00:02:02.599 and Jane Phillips was Aunt Jane. They got behind starting this new sorority 24 00:02:04.560 --> 00:02:10.759 and so paperwork was fast tracked.
